Arc 3, Chapter 153 — The Bearer Of Bad Omens

What the hell!!!!
Everyone around, including Levon’s group, were surprised. They hadn’t seen such a move from their leader before.
Levon said nothing, knowing he only just mastered this a week ago. Of course, he felt he had only grasped 20% of its first stage.
The mist was enough to destroy a Level 1 with one swift move. But when it came to level 2s and 3s... it bounced off, only slicing their bodies slightly.
It all happened so fast. Levon hurled his blades, their sharp edges flowing with eerie lights whenever they sliced through multiple opponents. "Keep Moving!"
"Right!"
The gang fought as one cohesive unit, their teamwork honed by countless drills. They took on various points, carving paths through the horde with relentless efficiency.
Soon, they were down the stairs and on the 2nd floor, surrounded by other Bloodrens and Ghouls. But then out of nowhere, something different moved like a shadow through the chaos—silent and deadly.
"Shugo!" Leo screamed just in time, shoving a shard to fend off the attack.
Dammit! It was Redclar!
Redclar had only sent his shard forward, not intending to kill Shugo, but to push him towards the fangs of a chaotic Level 3 Ghoul.
It seemed that Redclar had long locked eyes onto Shugo, creeping closer and unseen around the chaos.
Leo blocked his sharded move, but was still pushed back, enough to let Shugo stumble. And before he could catch his footing, a ring-mouth level 3 Ghoul was ready to take its first draw of blood for the night.
~Bang!
Levon had no choice but to ruthlessly kick Shugo out of the way, letting its fangs taste his katana’s blade instead.
Several rows of teeth fell with one move. And then, he went for the finishing blow, seeing as the ghoul was momentarily distracted.
"Coward." Levon spat softly, watching the ghoul’s ashes fall. However, whether he was speaking about the deceased Ghoul or Redclar, was clear for any observer to make out.
Heh-Heh-Heh-Heh~
Redclar sneered. "The one called Shugo... I told you that you will regret offending me."
He then shrugged, soon vanishing into the shadows of the battlefield like a ghost. But make no mistake. This didn’t mean he had given up.
There was no way he would!
Whoosh~
The emergency lights came on.
So it’s been 20 minutes already?
The red lights casted an eerie radiance on the darkness, but they still couldn’t see Redclar. He must’ve gone into retreat, until he finds yet another opportunity to strike.
"Well now, I never expected he’d go this far." Shugo’s lips twisted in a sardonic smirk. "However, it’s not against the rules, no?"
So long as he—-Shugo— dies from a vampire attack, no one can do anything to Redclar. Even if Redclar was the one who pushes him towards the enemy.
Shugo licked his lips teasingly. He was not offended. Rather... there was a spark of thrill corroding every fiber of his being.
’Redclar... You Are Mine.’
....
BOOM!
The Night Drill was possibly the most intense they’ve ever gotten, with more ghouls than before—Probably because they’ve gotten stronger too.
Levon and many others had to admit that if they were to use their current strength to deal with the attacks they received on their first few night drills, it would be like stealing candy from a baby.
Like so, minutes turned to hours, completing utter Ghoul extermination by the 5th hour. It went on for so long, they were cloaked in sweat. Just how many of these things was the order going to send their way? And where exactly are these Ghouls coming from?
Was there some secret gateway that allowed these ghouls to travel forth from the Prisons to the Mansion?
Questions, questions, questions... but no one to answer them. Soon, the gang collapsed on their butts, no one in the mood to lay on the blood and ash-filled surfaces around.
They sat in silence, their chests abruptly rising and falling. And sure enough, it wasn’t long before Clara and her goons appeared.
"Here she comes..."
"The messenger of Bad news, you mean?"
Several Bloodrens murmured in whispery tones as Clara’s footsteps bellowed.
"Another day, another Night Drill." She began. "And here I thought I’d see your own blood oozing from your chests."
As she spoke, her goons, released through strange balls that flew into their clothing. "Alright, you know the drill. Which of you is infected?"
Unlike the first time Clara asked this question, people actually obediently stood, unwillingness etched on their faces.
—Dead.
She gave them mercy killings, swift and decisive. One could say they felt no pain throughout the entire process.
All 8 people had their heads first sliced off cleanly, before their bodies burnt to a crisp. Not even their ashes stayed behind after touching soft unnatural flames.
6 out of the 8 deceased were newbies, while the last two were old Bloodren 10s.
One should know that even though these old Bloodrens had spent year(s) undergoing night drills after staying back... they only fought off Level 1 ghouls, and occasionally level 2 ghouls... because that was the maximum they covered before receiving Sky high punishments or failures that kept them back.
What’s more, they never mastered or understood the Basic Origin breathing techniques. So these 2 old Bloodrens got infected during the 20 minute window of darkness before the emergency lights came on.
In fact, the other 6 Newbies Clara killed, also got infected during this period of utter darkness.
In the end, the group was now down by 6 people. And amongst the crowd, those who survived by hiding behind others during the Night Drill, were the most shaken.
What should they do? They haven’t mastered the Breathing technique yet!
These days, they’ve tried their hardest, but can’t pry into its secrets. Why did others say they could see somewhat in the dark after successfully grasping a fraction of the technique’s meaning?
What about them? What should they do now that they haven’t mastered a single thing?
From 101 to 93 people. Their numbers were declining again.
However, since Winhest had said that there’ll be more joining them during the Phase 2 competitions, it means that their numbers will once again climb up and drop after Phase 2 is completed.
Looking at it, it seems that every step of the way, one can get held back from slip ups.
...
Clara smirked, allowing some of her goons to inspect the mansion as usual.
"Like I said, if there’s any destruction of furniture or fixtures in your rooms, you will get punished too."
Soon, the goons poked their heads out, shaking them sideways.
"Well now, it seems mother luck smiles brightly on you all.... All except 2 more."
Hiss~
Levon and many sucked in their breaths, watching Clara point at the 2 she spoke of. Hey now... they were both Old Bloodren 10s.
"You two were detected to be Awake after Lights Out. Sorry, but as of today."
"We’ll start with you. Your last punishment number was 18 months, which happens to be your 5th."
As per the rules, this meant his initial punishment phase of 18 must be multiplied by 2 (18x2=36), and then added to the Punishment number in months.
This was his 5th punishment, so 5 months added to 36 months... bringing it up to a grand total of 41 months.
This meant he’ll have to stay back and participate in Phase 2 competitions after 3 years.
Technically, a 5th punishment term should equate to 49 months.
A 1st term punishment term is 1 month.
A 2nd punishment term is 3 months.
A 3rd Punishment term is 9 months
A 4th Punishment term is 26 months
—One’s 5th punishment should be 56 months.
However, don’t forget that one can also receive punishment from people like Phinx who can add one month as punishment, 9 months and even another year or 2 to their original punishment time.
The Bloodren in question, had only failed 3 punishment terms. However, he had 2 incidents added to his original 9 month span, raising it up to 18 months. This meant his 5th Punishment resulted in 18 months.
Sadly when he finished his 18 month term, he had almost missed that year’s Phase 1 competitions, causing him to wait an additional 6 months for this year’s competition.
"No!" The Old Bloodren’s voice erupted like a volcano. "I’ve been waiting for 2 years and finally passed the PHASE 1 competitions. And now... you want me to pack up and leave again, returning in another 3 years for the Phase 2 competitions? Not a chance!"
That’s totally insane.
Doesn’t this mean he has already used up 5 years of his time within the 8-year-mark? At this rate, how was he supposed to rank up to Bloodren 9 before the remaining 3 years expired?
???????
"Quiet." Clara’s voice bellowed, focusing on the other Bloodren she pointed out. "You, on the other hand, have a last figure mark of 26 months for your 4th punishment.... Meaning your total time now is 56 months."
That’s 4 years, 8 months... Almost 5 years!
Note that he already served 2 years and 4 month punishment time... and a total combined time of 2 months when he wasn’t under punishment.
Again, one cannot stress enough the maximum time one can remain a Bloodren 10 is 8 years.
So after this additional 4 years and 8 months is over, doesn’t this mean he will have only 10 months to go before Expulsion and permanent Transfer to the other DEPARTMENTS.
Impossible. There’s no way he can do everything quickly in just 10 months!
