Chapter 109: The Special Ones

Arc 2, Chapter 109—The Special Ones

.

.

As the two made their way to the center stage, the masses already knew this would be a tricky battle.

Artilla and Hendrix had an air charisma about them that was both captivating and terrifying, drawing people in despite the danger they posed.

"Dunno if true or not, but my little ears heard rumors of the little Missy being a dual shard user. And get this... both shards are Superior grade."

"You Lie. That’s right, I put it to you that you’re talking nonsense."

"Exactly! This guy is definitely exaggerating. Are you telling us that both of her shards are from higher ranked piles? Impossible, right?"

A surge of unfathomable emotions ran through their veins. The spectators were speechless.

Even Cerine had to give Artilla a few more looks.

You don’t get it, do you? THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!

"From what I know, dual shard users will have one shard from a stronger pile and another from a lesser and far weaker pile. But if the rumors are true, and all her shards were gotten from pile 23, then..."

Cerine didn’t need to speak further for Delweather, and the others to understand her thoughts.

Even they had the hairs on their bodies standing erect in the face of such truths.

Here was the breakdown of what knowledge they know:

—-In total, there are 24 Shard piles. This means shards are classified into 24 Primary categories.

According to the rumors, Artilla’s shards... all 2 of them are said to be from Pile 23!

Do you know how insane that is if it proves to be true?

Do you know how much potential she has to force 2 shards from such higher ranked, egoistic piles to awaken and run to her like dogs?

~PAH!

Someone slapped themselves in the crowd, typing to wake themselves from this dream.

"Hold on," one of them protested. "Did you also say that this Hendrix got a shard from Pile 23 as well? How come it’s now simple to grab shards from higher piles?"

A knot of emotions burned in the heart of the Bloodren 9. At this point, he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

It wasn’t just him, but Delweather and the others who felt this way.

It was super, super... super important to know that in his class of Bloodren 9s, Delweather’s shard came from Pile 22, and Cerine’s shard also came from 22.

Back then, they felt on top of the world because they were the highest and most powerful shard users in their batch and probably one of the best in terms of potential amongst the other Bloodren groups.

But now, the potentials of these Bloodren 10s had quenched their earlier arrogance.

To understand why they were so affected, one has to look deeper into the Shard grades these Bloodren 10s possessed.

...

As said earlier, there are 24 Piles. And within each Pile, there were graded sublevels too.

Do you remember the yellow road all newly arrivees were made to walk past?

If one looked closely, they would have noticed that the yellow roads had peculiar grading lines strategically engraved on its path.

Imagine each pile of shards being like giant hills of diamonds.

Let’s say you reach the 22nd pile and instantly attract a shard from the start of your journey across the 22nd Mountain.

Then in this case, The shard you acquire will be a Low-tier Pile 22 shard.

In another case, if you attract a shard when standing at the base of the mountain’s highest point, the shard you get would be considered Mid-tier.

—And finally, if you attract a shard at the end of Pile 22, it’s a High-tier Pile 22 shard.

Delweather’s shard 22 was a mid-tier one, while Cerine’s was a low-tier one.

They felt like kings and queens in their time, knowing it was far difficult for many to do what they did.

But after today, their faces were slapped hard.

Do you remember Florianna Micosumi and Payne Ignier who just fought a while ago?

Well, it appears these 2 awakened HIGH-TIER shards from shard 22.

Do you know how shocking this matter is?

As for Artilla, both of her shards came from Mid-tier locations in Pile 23.

For Hendrix, his Shard came from a High-tier position on Pile 23.

This was more incredulous than anything.

How come it seems so easy for these new Bloodren 10s to awaken higher-ranked shards?

In their Bloodren 9 group... When they first started out as Bloodren 10s, only about 6 people awakened shards from pile 20 and above.

There was Delweather, Cerine, Batista the giant, Bloomingdale, Potchmay, and Redclar. That’s it.

Everyone else got shards from piles 19, 18, 17, 18 and so on.

Yet, there were 18 people in this Bloodren 10 group with Shards from pile 20 to above.

Victorio’s men, and several others from Hendrix’s side also fought within the top 20 Bloodren 10 battles.

This was just too incredible.

Again they ask: how come it’s so easy for these Bloodren 10s to awaken these shards?

Another rumor going about was the fact that at least 78% of Bloodren 10s awakened shards from piles 15~19.

This... this... this was just too much of a percentage.

In their time, only 15% of people awakened piles from 15~19. But over 74% of the group’s population got shards from piles 7~14.

So... did you, the Order, specially train this group before bringing them in? Is that it?

Why were so many endowed and blessed Bloodrens all in one group?

Even after becoming Bloodren 9s and joining other older Bloodren 9s, Delweather and Cerine were still the most talented among the group, proving how difficult it was to awaken shards in higher ranked piles.

So there was no doubt in his mind that this batch of Bloodrens would be unpredictable.

Yet...

(~Sniff, sniff)

"I smell something fishy," Delweather muttered underneath his breath.

Chewing on his stalk of hay in his mouth, he felt uneasy with the many peculiar scents his nostrils have been picking up of late.

"Interesting..."
