[Last Wednesday]

"Out of curiosity, Lillian..."

"Hm?"

Lillian clutched the edges of her book as she looked up from its context. She stared at Beatrice, who gave her an interested look as she scrolled through her phone.

She then watched as the woman faced the screen towards her, displaying an image of an old photo of a familiar black-haired woman.

Lillian tilted her head. "Marionette? What about her?"

"Well~... How strong is she? You know... Purely out of curiosity of you want to know why."

Lillian raised an eyebrow at the woman before thinking about how to word her sentence. She shut her book and placed it aside on the table. Turning in her seat, she crossed her legs.

She leaned her elbow on the table and rested her chin in her palm.

"If you really wanna know... She's strong. Like really strong. Extremely skilled in a variety of weapons, too."

"How about her mastery with her element?"

"..."

Lillian stared at her silently, wondering if she should be giving away such valuable information while Marionette wasn't here.

"It's high. That's really all I'm going to give you, though..."

"Is that so...? Although you haven't seen me fight in a long time... You know..." She twirled her wrist before pointing her index finger at herself, "Would you think I would be able to win against her?"

Lillian stared at the woman, watching as she grinned. She then began to go through her memories again.

While the Student Council President was no doubt a formidable opponent with her lightning-fast reflexes and being able to control electricity... She was still in the first Tier.

Even if Tiers at the lower levels didn't truly decide the outcome of some fights, it was at least a baseline. However, what truly decides the battle would be the person's individual strength and skills.

Lillian gave a short chuckle, waving her hand dismissively, "Nah... No offense, Beat."

Beatrice pouted at her answer before laughing along with the girl, "Is that right? I kind of wanna try it, though, you know?"

"Heh! Provoke her and you might die, Beatrice."

"Then, you should try your best to mediate the fight before that happens, you know?"

[Present]

The corridor became dreadfully dimmer as the darkness puddled on the wall pushed out a dark javelin that radiated malice.

This left Lillian a little shaken, worried about what was to come. In the corner of her eyes, she found Beatrice's body releasing jagged yellow strings of pure electricity.

Was she... Really going to fight the Assassin? In such an enclosed space, no less!?

Lillian raised her hands towards the Assassin, "M-marionette! This is a huge misunderstanding! This idiot here just horribly worded her sentenc—!"

"Out of my way, Lillian..."

With her face hidden under the shadows of her fringe, Marionette gripped the shaft of the sharp javelin with a strength that could shatter concrete.

In the blink of an eye, Marionette's hand flashed with a dark blur as she stabbed with the javelin with piercing speed.

Beatrice, pushing Lillian out of the way, tilted to the side—

SWISH!

—Dodging the swift stab with supernatural speed.

Marionette narrowed her eyes, focusing entirely on the woman and disregarding Lillian, who had just regained her balance off to the side.

With a twist of her body, she transformed the javelin midswing into a hammer, swinging it at the Council President, who ducked.

Beatrice's body then glowed an energetic light as a soft explosion of electricity occurred, which snaked across the surface of the corridor.

Marionette leapt back, her eyes gazing at the sporadic lines of electricity dancing on the walls and floor. Since they were on Academy property, they could not afford to damage it.

Beatrice slowly got out of her crouch, straightening herself as she gave a brief stretch of her body. She had a mocking grin.

She then said:

"Attacking another student has consequences, first year... As well as coming at them with deadly force."

"..."

Marionette glanced at the dark weapon in her hand, "Deadly force...?" And tossed it aside, letting it merge with the surrounding darkness.

With her face hidden under a shadow, and her eyes glowing with a blood-red light, she raised her right fist to the centre of her palm and—

Crack... Crack... Crack...

—Cracked her knuckles.

"Very well..." She muttered, her voice devoid of warmth as a dark and gaseous substance appeared an inch around her body, veiling her further into darkness.

In an unhurried and elegant manner, she turned her body to the side, walking through a wall and entering the darkness she had created on it.

This very darkness then expanded further out from the surface of the wall it was stuck on, drenching the entire corridor in a black. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

With her darkness covering the windows of the corridor, the lights embedded in the ceiling, and any cameras that could be found... She had essentially turned those within this area blind.

Beatrice, with electricity still flickering around her, smirked. With another gathering of mana across her body, she gave another discharge of energy.

BZZZ!

Snake-like electricity ate away the darkness around them, deterring them with the light created by their appearance.

Beatrice twisted her head around, using her electricity as a form of a radar to discover where the Assassin was hiding. She then felt something grab the scruff of her neck.

Turning around, she found a pair of eyes staring at her through the darkness that still lingered around her.

They swirled with an unbridled unknown emotion as they glowed with an intense light.

Marionette, having forced her way through Beatrice's "Little" discharge and grabbed the scruff of her neck, gripped it tighter as she twisted her body around.

However—

Zap...!

—Beatrice shot a paralysing current through the hand of the Assassin, intending to force them to release their hold on the back of her collar.

Unfortunately for her, it didn't work.

The Student President found her body become light as she felt herself flying through the air. She gave an unbothered huff as she flipped herself around, feeling a bit excited.

In an attempt to figure out her location amidst the darkness around her, she let out another soft discharge.

She twisted around and slammed her feet into the ground, making her flight come to a stop with a skid.

Once regaining her balance, she felt something off about her surroundings besides their foreboding impression.

She felt it move or something akin to that. Almost as though it was being pulled into a whirlpool of sorts. Of course, this was only her intuition.

And it was because of this intuition that she was able to quickly react to the fist shot through her gut. She let out a crooked grin, finding the arm through her stomach unaffected by her electrical body.

The darkness that was wrapped around her suddenly withdrew away, disappearing as the "Natural" light from the "Sun" sank into the corridor.

Due to this, Marionette's figure was revealed right before the Student President with her fist passing through her body.

Beatrice noted their cold and apathetic gaze on her as they still kept their fist through her body. Completely unbothered by the shocks that attacked her because of this.

She then heard the woman's words that responded to her earlier statement about deadly force.

"Weapons are not allowed, yes?" Marionette tilted her head eerily at the woman, her hair falling to one side like a curtain of darkness. She then withdrew her arm from the woman's body.

"Then I'll pummel you into the ground with my fists instead."
