Chapter 21: Chapter 21

"Please have mercy on me... Just kill me... I beg of you..."

The plea of a dying man.

A man who, if God above failed to stretch forth His hands to him, would be abandoned to fall into the deepest part of hell.

But even in hell, who was to say he would find peace? frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

The air inside the abandoned warehouse was thick with the acrid scent of blood and gasoline. The warehouse was faintly illumined by a broken light, which cast jagged shadows against the cold, concrete walls. The faint sound of water dripping echoed, a slow, rhythmic noise that only heightened the suffocating tension in the room.

Bound to a rusted metal chair in the center of the room was a man, bthough calling him that seemed almost generous now. His face was swollen beyond recognition, a grotesque mess of purple bruises, torn flesh, and dried blood. A jagged cut ran from his brow to his cheek, barely clotted, still seeping

onto the collar of his expensive suit. His wrists were tied behind his back, the rope digging so tightly into his skin that it had already started to turn raw.

Across from him stood Kai Blackwood.

Dressed in an unbuttoned black shirt, sleeves rolled up, the faint splatter of blood on his forearms, he looked as though he had merely been painting, not torturing a man to the brink of death. his posture was languid, almost lazy as He twirled a bloodied hunting knife between his fingers, the motion effortless, absentminded, as if this were all just a tedious game.

The man in the chair let out a shaky breath, his body trembling. "P-Please, Kai, just kill me...."

Kai sighed with a gentle smile, cutting him off. "Kill you?" His voice was soft, almost affectionate. "Now, why would I do that?"

He crouched down, leveling himself with the man’s broken form. His free hand reached out, fingers tracing along the man’s bloodied cheek, pressing just enough against the raw wounds to make him flinch.

" How could I bear to lose a precious friend?"

He brought the blade down, and in an instant, it sank into the man’s thigh.

The man let out a guttural scream, his entire body convulsing in agony as blood gushed from the fresh wound.

Kai didn’t even blink.

"You made us lose hundreds of millions and an arsenal of weapons." His voice was smooth, almost bored, as he pulled the blade out with a wet squelch. He wiped the blood off against the man’s torn sleeve as if it were nothing more than an inconvenience.

The man’s breath hitched, his entire frame shuddering. "I—I swear, I didn’t mean to betray the Song Family—"

Kai tilted his head, his expression as if he believed the man. "Didn’t you?"

The man frantically nodded. "Y-Yes! I was threatened, I had no choice—"

Kai hummed, tapping the flat of the knife against the man’s jaw, forcing his head up. "You took important trade secrets from the Song family and sold them for 50 million." His voice remained calm, detached. "That is quite a lot of money to be given to someone who was basically threatened, isn’t it?"

The man visibly flinched and his throat bobbed.

Kai let out a small chuckle, shaking his head. "You know, I really hate liars."

Without warning, he grabbed the man’s pinky finger and before the man could react, he bent it backward with a sickening crack.

The man’s head snapped back and a bloodcurdling scream ripped through the warehouse.

Kai smiled. "I really, really hate them."

Tears streamed down the man’s bruised face, mixing with sweat and blood. "P-Please—"

Kai leaned in close, his voice soft, almost gentle.

"Do you really think begging will help you?" His gaze darkened, the knife trailing along the man’s exposed collarbone. "I hear you have two villas in Country C. While that won’t fully cover the loss, it’s a start. Give me the documents, the fifty million, and the names of the other rats, and I might set you free. Or else..."

He pushed the blade into the man’s palm, and the man screamed in pain.

Kai laughed watching the way the man’s face contorted in pain, his eyes wide with sheer, pure agony.

The man’s expressions were quite amusing.

But just as Kai was enjoying the sight, the man’s head slumped forward, his breathing shallow.

He had fainted. Or rather he was pretending to.

Kai stared at him for a second before letting out a quiet sigh. "Already?"

Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a cigarette, placing it between his lips. He then flicked his lighter, lighting it up.

He took a slow drag and exhaled a puff of smoke, he then turned his gaze back to the unconscious man.

"Now, now. We were just getting started," he murmured.

Then, without hesitation, he brought the lit end of the cigarette to the man’s cheek, pressing it firmly against the bruised skin.

A scream tore through the warehouse as the man jolted awake, his body convulsing in pain. His eyes snapped open, wild with terror, as he thrashed weakly against the ropes that bound him.

Kai smirked. "Ah, there you are. Thought I lost you for a moment."

The cigarette sizzled as he pulled it away, leaving behind a fresh burn mark on the man’s already ruined face.

The man sobbed, his entire body shaking. "P-please...!"

Kai took another slow drag, watching the way the smoke curled around his fingers before flicking the cigarette aside.

"Now, where were we?"

The man’s entire body trembled, his eyes darting toward the door as if someone, anyone, might come to save him.

Kai noticed.

And he found it quite funny.

He crouched, resting his forearms lazily against his knees, meeting the man’s eyes. "You’re hoping someone will barge in and save you, aren’t you?" He tilted his head, taunting. "Go on, scream louder. Maybe they’ll hear you."

The man squeezed his eyes shut, whimpering. "Alright, I’ll tell you everything! Just...just please, stop! The documents... they’re in a safe in the villa... Code 9123! The others, they’re meeting at the Red Lotus Club tomorrow night—"

Kai sighed, standing back up. "How disappointing. I thought you’d have a little more fight in you."

Then, he plunged the knife into the man’s stomach.

The man’s eyes widened in surprise as he let out a choking gasp, his body jolting as blood bubbled past his lips.

"You..."

Kai twisted the blade.

Slowly.

Painfully.

Kai leaned in

"Well, I didn’t promise," he murmured, watching the light in the man’s eyes start to flicker.

His grip never wavered. He didn’t look away. He wasn’t disgusted or hesitant.

He was watching, studying.

It was fascinating how quickly life drained from the human body.

When the body finally slumped, the last breath leaving it, Kai exhaled, Not in anger but almost like he was mildly inconvenienced.

Then, he pulled the knife out, letting the body drop lifelessly onto the floor with a dull thud.

Kai straightened, stretching his arms as if he had just finished a workout, not a murder. He turned toward the two Song Family men waiting by the door. "Get rid of it."

One of them nodded. "Yes, Boss."

Kai cleaned the blood off his knife, slipping it back into his pocket. His expression remained the same, bored, unaffected, like this was just another chore on his list.

As he walked toward the exit, he paused, glancing back at the lifeless body.

Then, he turned to his men. "Wrap him beautifully. We wouldn’t want his family to receive an ugly present, now would we?"

And with that, he left, whistling softly to himself
