Happy New Year everyone, have fun, and remember to vote, hehe.

Under normal circumstances, a cultivator at the Qi Cultivation Period can unblock up to twenty-seven energy channels. Even if each channel were in perfect condition and offering three hundred pounds of strength, the cumulative True Essence Power would only amount to eight thousand and one hundred pounds.
However, this is only in theory. In reality, the number of cultivators who can actually unblock twenty-seven energy channels are few and far between. The ones who can unblock twenty-five, are considered geniuses.
On one hand, unblocking the energy channels is strenuous work. It’s not just a tremendous test of the cultivator’s willpower, but also gathering sufficient resources and diagrams of the channels isn’t a task everyone can accomplish. Most of the time, many cultivators need to accumulate resources over a long period of time to unblock the next channel. Sometimes, they may have enough resources, but not the diagram for the next channel, so they’re ultimately forced to advance to the next stage.
Cultivation can’t wait. If one stagnates at a certain stage for too long, it could spell trouble. Take Liang Xiaolong from the Huangque Hall of the Imperial Master Mansion, for instance. He’s already over thirty and only at the 7th Level of Qi Cultivation. Whether he can advance to the Foundation Establishment Stage in this lifetime is very uncertain, let alone talking about the Golden Core realm.
It’s important to note, however, in the Lianying Realm, there is no rush to advance to the Foundation Establishment Stage. But on the flip side, the constraints of cultivation resources and the diagrams of the channels impact every cultivator within Lianying Realm. Not every cultivator can utilize the same diagram. Like walking on a path, some people may pass through effortlessly, while others may find difficulties, demonstrating the importance of talent and opportunity.
Zhuang Yanran, as the City Lord of Guchuan City, can proudly bear the title of ‘genius’. In the entire Lianying Realm, he is also among the top-tier cultivators. Yet he has only managed to unblock twenty-five energy channels, none of which are perfectly unblocked. Less than half of them are in an excellent state, and one of them is merely passable. Thus, his True Essence Power is just under seven thousand pounds. Of course, as a city lord, Zhuang Yanran has access to numerous resources. He has no shortage of Spirit Weapons, and he has plenty of martial techniques. Leveraging all these benefits to add an extra two thousand pounds of strength would be comparatively easy.
Nevertheless, Zhuang Yanran had no intention of making a move immediately. After all, he was the City Lord, the stabilizing ballast. A casual move would be inappropriate, otherwise, why would he bother to keep around extras like Bai YuJie?
“Bai YuJie, gather everyone and have them give it a try. Those who can break the Rune Gate will be handsomely rewarded,” Zhuang Yanran commanded.
Bai YuJie answered, and was about to leave, but Huang Zhong interrupted, “City Lord, I have something to say. It would be best if only one person attempts to forcefully break open the Rune Gate. It’s impossible for two people unless their intentions are perfectly synchronized, and their movements harmonized, and that way their strength could strike at the same point. The Rune Gate has limited attempts to be forcefully broken open. Based on my estimations, there are at most ten chances. Once they are exhausted, the Rune Gate will disappear, and the treasures preserved in the folded space will also be destroyed with it.”
Bai YuJie said hurriedly, “City Lord, speaking about perfect synchronization and harmony, I was reminded of a pair of brothers.”
“You’re referring to Yang Leiping and Yang Leijing?” Zhuang Yanran asked.
“Yes, them. They’re twins, their words and actions are so alike that one can barely tell them apart. Both of them are at the Eighth Level of Qi Cultivation and each possess strength exceeding six thousand pounds. Combined, isn’t their strength well over nine thousand pounds?” said Zhuang Yanran.
“Have them summoned,” instructed Zhuang Yanran.
Bai YuJie hastily went to fetch the two while Huang Zhong suggested, “City Lord, Yang Leiping and Yang Leijing might not necessarily be perfectly in sync. Just in case, I suggest letting them test the Force Shuttle first. If they are truly fully synchronized, then we could let them attempt to forcefully break down the Rune Gate. The Rune Gate only has ten chances, we can’t afford to waste any.”
Zhuang Yanran considered it for a moment, then agreed, and tasked another person with this. That person, along with a few others, then left.
Soon afterwards, Bai YuJie returned with a pair of cultivators whose appearances were nearly identical. They were similar in height and weight, and even their clothing was exactly the same, making it impossible to tell them apart.
After observation, Qi Tian employed his keen eyes, honed from years of working on intricate designs for aviation engines, noticed the subtle differences between the brothers, in the size of their nostrils. The elder brother, Yang Leiping, had nostrils that were just one or two millimeters larger than the younger brother’s, Yang Leijing.
After the twin brothers paid their respects to the City Lord, Huang Zhong briefly explained the situation. At the prospect of being able to assist the City Lord and make a good impression, both brothers were excited. Usually, they didn’t have many opportunities to present themselves before Zhuang Yanran, and fewer opportunities translated to fewer rewards and less room for progress. They were relieved to finally have a chance, one which they were determined to seize.
“City Lord, rest assured. We will definitely break open the Rune Gate for you. We won’t disappoint your expectations.” The brothers said in unison.
Zhuang Yanran nodded in satisfaction and said, “If you two can help me open the Rune Gate, I can promise you both that you each can preselect a treasure piece in the secret chamber. Regardless of its worth, I will give it to both of you.”
Yang Leiping and Yang Leijing both were overjoyed, bowing in gratitude to Zhuang Yanran.
Zhuang Yanran looked over at Huang Zhong and said, “Huang Zhong, you too, can pick a treasure first. You go first, the Yang Brothers will be after you.”
Huang Zhong also quickly thanked Zhuang Yanran, however, it was clear that his level of excitement did not match that of the Yang Brothers. As an exceptional Array Master and rune master – a highly sought-after technician by earth standards – he was certainly not short of money.
At this point, someone had brought over the Force Shuttle. It was a longitudinal device used to test strength. There were various inscriptions carved on a line that connected two planks with a support pillar. This line was known as the Force Line, and on it was a silver shuttle, which was the Force Shuttle.
During the test, the tester hits the Force Shuttle with all his might, causing the shuttle to move forward along the Force Line. When the strength is exhausted, the Force Shuttle stops. Where it stops stands for the magnitude of the power.
The accuracy of the Force Shuttle varies according to the maker’s skill level. But generally, cultivators have agreed that the Force Shuttle is only capable of measuring a single power. It can’t measure accumulative or composite power. Accumulation here refers to power above a single person’s range, not the accumulation of one person’s power. Just like Qi Tian, the True Essence Power combined with the power of the Eight Desolate Demon Tiger Fist cannot display on the Force Shuttle, and almost no magical artifact can distinguish these two strengths.
Huang Zhong pointed to the Force Shuttle and said, “What is this? You should also know it without me explaining. Let’s not waste time, put on a show and demonstrate your abilities on the Force Shuttle. Let us see your synchronized and coordinated movements. Also, exert as much force as you can, don’t hold back.”
The Yang Brothers looked at each other and nodded in agreement. They walked over to the Force Shuttle and took their positions on either side. There were no faults in the positions they assumed. If the Force Shuttle were considered the centre line, the brothers formed a perfect symmetrical figure on either side.
“Begin,” Zhuang Yanran said.
The Yang Brothers closed their eyes and almost instantaneously flung their fists at the Force Shuttle. The Force Shuttle was big enough so that even fists of several individuals could strike it simultaneously, without any problem.
Bang…

To outsiders, it seemed like the two brothers’ fists had hit the Force Shuttle at the same time. But only the Yang Brothers knew that this time their movements were not perfectly in sync. Although the difference was very small, Yang Leiping, the elder, managed to hit the shuttle first. By the time the shuttle moved and Yang Leijing, the younger, threw his punch, the Force Shuttle had already darted off along the Force Line, his punch missing its mark.
The Force Shuttle slid along the Force Line, activating numerous runes on the way, their glow reminiscent of a string of beautifully lit lanterns, extremely pleasing to the eyes.
However, the Force Shuttle soon came to a stop.
Looking at the lit-up runes, Zhuang Yanran’s expression turned extremely sombre. “What happened?” he inquired.
Yang Leiping awkwardly responded, “I am sorry, my lord, I punched a bit too quickly.” As the elder brother, he took responsibility for the mishap.
Zhuang Yanran didn’t care about who was to blame; he was only interested in the results. He coldly said, his face devoid of any emotion, “Focus.”
The Yang Brothers nodded in unison. After sharing a glance and communicating through their eyes, the two brothers once again closed their eyes and punched at the Force Shuttle, which had returned to its original position.
Despite their utmost efforts, the Yang Brothers were still not able to hit the shuttle simultaneously. Watching the shuttle stop at the six-thousand-pound mark, Zhuang Yanran’s expression turned even darker. He had had great expectations from the Yang Brothers, but their performance had been a huge disappointment.
This was their so-called ‘twin brotherly telepathy’ and ‘unison in steps’? He was thoroughly disappointed.
