D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad-Chapter 1816 - A Bit of Training
--- Kat ---
Kat and Lily were walking down the corridor, still pondering if Posey was a ghost or not. See, when Eleanora had returned with their meals, Posey had floated through the wall carrying some food. That would point towards ghost right? If only Elenaora didn't phase through the wall with her. It really muddied the issue, at least the food was enjoyable. "So… how the heck are we meant to get proof if Twisted Space will just let people walk through walls when it feels like it?" asked Kat.
"I don't know," sighed Lily as she walked by Kat's side. "I'm not really sure what sort of evidence we thought we could get… but 'walking through walls' should've been EXCELLENT evidence she was a ghost,"
"Perhaps she converted Eleanora into a ghost?" offered Kat.
Lily giggled, "Nah, Eleanora's too much of a battle maniac for that I bet. Plus… how would she manage it? Though… actually… do you think ghosts live forever? If they do Eleanora might have been willing to go along with it for a chance to fight forever?"
Kat considered it for a few seconds before shaking her head, "Eh… probably too much of a risk. Eleanora is already an elf AND she has regeneration affinity. Old age is never killing her now she's Rank 3," Lily nodded in agreement as the pair opened a door to an empty field.
Stepping outside they were hit by a wave of fresh air. The place was blank except for the door they'd just walked through and a sign that read 'Do Not Pass the Red Trees' which… didn't tell them much because there weren't any trees at all in sight. Kat glanced back at the door and found that it really was just… sitting there in the middle of the field.
Carefully moving around the door Kat found that looking at it from the back still revealed the same corridor they'd just come down simply from a different angle. The door didn't seem to be attached properly to the ground and Kat was not keen to test that. "Why do I get the feeling that if we look away from the door it will disappear?" Kat asked.
"Um… not sure," said Lily with a shrug. "The space feels pretty solid and as far as I can tell it's the main entrance to this area…"
"Right…" said Kat slowly. "That's not what I was angling for. I more meant that it seems like one of those horror or fantasy tropes that once we shut the door and look away it will disappear and we'll be lost in this place,"
Lily rubbed her chin. "Hmm… I wonder if the fact I can feel space in an area around me will prevent that? The pathway seems pretty well locked in there and I don't see it moving… though I can't promise the door will remain. Hmmm hmm… if it did disappear I wonder if I could call it back?"
Kat sighed, "I get it, this is another chance to practice things before the tournament starts up and the door is a potentially interesting puzzle or just… nothing to worry about… but I'm still worried,"
"Well I can simply watch the door in your stead," said Eleanora causing Kat to jump and turn to the elf.
"Oh… um… sort of forgot you were there, sorry," said Kat.
Eleanora shrugged, "I was endeavouring to make my presence fade into the background. That and you did manage to lose me in the corridors for a little bit. I only just stepped back through the door. Though not the exit you're looking at,"
Kat glared at Lily around the door and her girlfriend had the audacity to just grin and shrug back as if she hadn't seen Eleanora walk through the door moments ago by the sound of it. "So wait… these aren't the same doors?" asked Kat. "Or I mean… it doesn't go to the same place?"
"Technically," said Lily. "It IS actually the same corridor from what my senses tell me, it's just that the door shows different directions. Though there is a wall separating the two halves… so maybe they DO count as separate corridors? Eleanora? Thoughts?"
"I think they are two different, but physically connected hallways," answered Eleanora.
Kat shook her head, "Fine whatever. Let's actually do the practice we came here to do. With Eleanora watching the door and your spatial sense it should be fine. Now… any ideas for a good ranged attack? I'm still sort of stuck on that one. My ideas from yesterday didn't exactly pan out,"
Lily shrugged, "Why do you need to bother? I can act as your 'low lethality' ranged option in a pinch right?" Kat glared at her girlfriend for a few moments. "Fine, I just wanted to point out I COULD fill that gap, no need to look so annoyed at me for it,"
"Lily… I don't exactly love having you in combat at all without some way for you to regenerate. Perhaps I'll figure out a way to share mine or something one day but until then I'd just prefer you didn't… but I recognise that's selfish of me. In this case though, it has nothing to do with how good of a ranged arsenal you have. It's about the fact I have 'Death', 'Horrible Scarring' and 'Maiming' as my options through demonic fire," said Kat.
"You've proven you can make it just… not hurt someone though," retorted Lily.
"Right but I've got no confidence I can make it hurt them a certain amount. I'm also not sure how well it can be healed…" Kat paused for a moment and turned to the maid, "…heeey Eleanora do you know how well injuries from demonic fire can be healed?"
"It varies," said Eleanora. "From what records we have it… it really varies. Some injuries are simple to remove and others could never be healed even with the attention of the greatest healers though… often in such cases the patient died before that could truly be tested. The most reliable way to solve demonic fire injuries is to slice the edges of the wound and then heal from that but it doesn't always work. Regenerators tend to have a better matchup then healers though,"
"Wait… so if I'd used demonic fire on you… you'd have been fine?" asked Kat.
Eleanora shook her head, "Oh, not at all. We suffer from increased pain from demonic wounds and it takes a massive amount of mana to repair damage caused by demonic fire. It wouldn't have been much of a fight at all,"
"Then why did you challenge me?!" hissed Kat.
"Because it seemed unlikely you'd attempt to use it? And if you had I would've employed more lethal tactics in all likelihood," answered Eleanora easily.
Kat pouted a the elven maid not liking the idea that she might have accidentally killed the battle maniac if things had escalated. Well… not 'accidentally' not really but that she'd likely have escalated herself had Eleanora done so. *I guess we were both holding back. Sure I mocked her for it a bit in my head… but we both were really.*
Kat sighed and turned back to Lily. "So… ranged options?"
"Well… you could try working on not being so damaging with your demonic fire? But assuming that doesn't work… maybe try and get your water up to speed? Just spin it around in a circle and use it as a cutting disk? Not ideal perhaps but it's at least SOME range for you," said Lily.
Kat sighed, "The problem is that sort of thing doesn't actually do that much damage watch," Kat transformed and quickly separated a chunk of water from her main 'body'. Then it was simple to speed it up, over and over, around and around until it would be a blur to normal human eyes. Kat pressed it against the ground… and the water sprayed everywhere on contact.
Kat transformed back and said, "See, this is just normal ass dirt," Kat kicked the ground a bit to prove her point, removing a chunk of grass in the process. "I put no real force into it but was able to take a chunk of dirt away. That swiftly spinning near blade of water? No such thing. I don't know how water mages manage to any damage at all…"
"The spell probably imparts some metaphysical weight to it… but I see what you mean. Maybe… they get the edge really, really sharp? It's hard to say… maybe you do just need something to throw? It's not… ideal but your abilities don't exactly lend themselves to being used at range and you clearly need something," offered Lily. frёewebηovel.cѳm
"So… what ask around town for a bunch of metal ball bearings or something?" returned Kat.
"Not sure they have the tech level here to make those easily… but yes," nodded Lily. "I think that would be good,"
"Eleanora any input?" asked Kat.
"You definitely need a ranged option… so I would suggest perhaps trying to work out wind slashes with your fans. I'm not sure if your demonic energy will properly translate to help you form them, but it is quite possible for high level swordsman," said Eleanora.
"Well it's something to test at least…" mumbled Kat.
