Chapter 70: Healing the Earth

Dimitri set off with Lily on his back checking the areas she indicated on her map before they took flight. It never got old the feeling of flight, the weightlessness in the sky, the freedom to move how you pleased, and the ability to go anywhere you want. Lily had longed for these feelings her soul demanding them.

She started to feel like a dragon when she flew with Dimitri her eyes would sharpen seeing more in a glance then she ever did before. When he showed her how to spit fire she didn’t know she could even do that. While finding out she was part dragon part wolf she failed to look at the most important part. That she had ignored parts of herself she didn’t know she could access.

They made their way to the farmlands and Lily could see what had happened to them. The toxic slug had taken over since the river was the strongest against most of the lands. The river provided the necessary water for each plot which is why the damage was so severe.

Taking note of how bad each plot was she seen a green patch the furthest away from the river. It wasn’t all healthy, but it was growing. *Land over there where its greenest, please.* Dimitri headed there finding a small area to land than shifting as she slide off his back landing in front of him, robe in hand. Taking it he dressed as she looked at the area a look of sorrow on her face.

"It shouldn’t be this way. I can hear the plants crying for help. What ever this toxin is it kills slowly, mercilessly." He watched her walk through the area a pulse of power stirring the ground around her. He could see her goddess powers coming out the markings showing on her face, neck and hands. Her eyes changed color going a deep purple like her mother’s than she began to sing:

Lift me up,Hold me down,Keep me close,Safe and sound.

Burning in a hopeless dream,Hold me when you go to sleep,Keep me in the warmth of your love,When you depart, keep me safe,Safe and sound.

Lift me up,Hold me down,Keep me close,Safe and sound.

Drowning in an endless sea,Take some time and stay with me,Keep me in the strength of your arms,Keep me safe.Safe and sound.

Lift me up,Hold me down, Keep me safe, Safe and sound.

Burning in a hopeless dream,Hold me when you go to sleep,Keep me safe.We need light, we need love.

lift me up, in your arms, I need love, I need love, hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me.

we need light, we need love.

Throughout her song she walked along the damaged and diseased area healing and purifying the toxin from the ground. The plants came back to life the toxin evaporating as she passed them, making the flowers thrive again. The ground look darker, more rich in minerals and natural elements with every step she took.

Dimitri was in awe of her power seeing the full force of it at work healing the grounds he walked on. Never in his life had he seen something of this magnitude before and witnessing it first hand was a whole different experience.

She stopped at the land plots edge seeing the death and decay there knowing she only had so much power to use at once. Pulling it back she concentrated on her center slowly bring it back in to herself.

Returning to normal she took a deep breath turning around looking at what she was able to do. It came back to life as if nothing had touched it. The greens were more vibrant and new plant life sprung up from the ground. It was the middle of winter, but the ground was greener then first spring.

Dimitri walked up to her smiling watching her to make sure she was okay. "I did it. I wasn’t sure if I could stop, but I did it. The antigen will help the worse areas, but I wanted to see if I could do this too."

"At least you stopped yourself. Look, some of the residents seen your little display." The residents were kneeling on the ground praying. "Crap, that’s not what I was trying to do." She walked over to them as they remained kneeling on the ground. "Please stand. I only wished to heal the ground. Please." She helped the old woman stand as Dimitri helped the old man who looked worn out and tired.

"We only wish to thank the goddess that helped out lands. We couldn’t farm them because the ground would not let anything grow. I tried all the techniques my family and forefathers used and nothing worked. We are at the mercy of the Wolf Clan Royal Family and they stopped sending provisions years ago." Lily felt a twinge of guilt since she was probably the one sending aid to them. She should have known things would get bad faster then she anticipated.

"I have one more gift to bestow upon you as an apology for my negligence." She walked into the middle of the field shoving her hands into the soil and pushing the seeds in the ground to grow. Instantly seeds popped and grew into barely wheat and corn everywhere the field touched. Pushing a little more she made sure that all the plants bloomed and were ready for harvest before pulling back.

Standing up she swayed a bit before Dimitri caught her shaking his head. "Over did it, didn’t you?" The couple stared in awe at a ripe harvest to be taken in thanking them for their gracious gift. "We will be sure to send some to the Dragon castle."

"Ask for my second in command Erik. He will make sure you get a good price for your goods." The couple nodded thanking them once again. "I can’t take you anywhere can I?" She chuckled hearing this knowing he always seemed to be carrying her everywhere they went.

"I know. I couldn’t help it though. The screams from the earth were deafening to me and all I wanted to do was stop their pain. This toxin has more to it than just elements and those darklings we ran into the other day were determined to make sure we couldn’t continue on. Whoever is behind this wants this world to die a slow and painful death."

Dimitri listened to her having similar thoughts himself. Seeing the amount of energy it took her to heal just a small area of land it was clear this problem was meant to make someone or something suffer slowly. Looking down at his mate she was sleeping soundly in his arms so he found a spot under a tree and watched the beautiful sight she created while she rested.

He wondered what he could do since his mother only taught him so much about his powers. Like Lily could there be something he could do to help fix this problem? If so what could it be. He pondered this while his sleeping mate snored softly as she tuned into his chest snuggling closer into him.

Her soft features showed more when she slept and he was fortunate to see it for once. She rarely slept like this, but he was glad to have her in his arms. Her uncle was bound a determined to get her back in his grasp, but he was ther to make sure she fullfilled her calling. She was more then just his mate, but he knew he would have to protect her from herself at some point.

The wife of the couple brought over a plate of food and drink approaching quietly. "I don’t mean to disturb you, but I am sure she will be hungry when she wakes. Please accept this as a token of our gratitude." He nodded as the woman approached setting the try down next to him on the ground. "Thank you. She will be hungry but never say it. She pushed herself more than she should have."

"She’s a fighter with a big heart. Protect her and keep her safe. I hope she can do more good like this for others who need it." The woman bowed and then walked off back to her home. Dimitri knew Lily would help as many people as she could but she needed to use her powers more. With practice along the way to the forbidden territory hopefully, her skills and stamina will improve.

He sat back as his mate shifted her weight again facing the sun as it light up her face reminding him just how much of a responsibility she was for him. *This is going to be a long journey.* He thought as he munched on the plate of food watching the day go by hopeful of the future ahead of them.
