Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer-Chapter 268: Failed Extradition
Chapter 268: Failed Extradition
The next day...
Under the cover of darkness, the elite DRA force moved like shadows through the woodland surrounding one of Maria’s estates.
These operatives were highly trained superhumans, equipped with advanced gear and ready for one of their most dangerous mission yet.
Their target was Maria, who had been deemed as a mastermind behind countless terror attacks and crimes against humanity under the guise of religious aid throughout the planet.
They had no idea how it all happened overnight or how the DRA obtained evidence against her, and they did not care. Once they had their orders, it was their job to deliver the target, not to ask unnecessary questions.
The DRA team, led by Captain Elena, a telepath with unmatched combat skills among her peers, approached the estate with her team. They communicated through their mind links, ensuring complete silence and coordination so as not to alert the enemy.
"Team Alpha, take the west entrance. Team Bravo, you’re with me on the east," Elena commanded telepathically.
Team Alpha, led by Marcus, a superhuman with enhanced strength and speed known as War God’s disciple, nodded and moved toward their assigned entrance.
Meanwhile, Team Bravo, including Elena, Kyle, a pyromancer, and Nina, a speedster, headed to the east entrance.
As expected, the estate was heavily guarded, but the DRA had meticulously planned their assault, even though they were only made aware of the attack a few hours ago. Thankfully, everything was going according to their plan.
As they approached the estate, the guards patrolling the perimeter became the first targets. Marcus motioned for his team to halt, scanning the area.
"Seven guards, northeast," he communicated through the mind link. "I’ll take point. The rest of you, cover me. Keep the casualties at a minimum."
"Affirmative."
With lightning speed, Marcus dashed forward, knocking out the first guard with a single punch before he could react. The second guard turned, but Marcus was already upon him, a swift kick to the head rendering him unconscious.
The third guard reached for his weapon, but Marcus disarmed him effortlessly, a powerful uppercut sending him sprawling, unconscious. In the meantime, the rest of the team took down the remaining guards.
Team Alpha secured the west entrance, signalling the all-clear. Meanwhile, on the east side, Team Bravo encountered a group of five guards.
Taking point, Elena used her telepathic abilities, disorienting them. Being the only S-Rank telepath on earth, her combat abilities were far superior than expected of a typical mage. Something she never failed to show off during operations.
"Now!" she commanded.
Kyle stepped forward, flames erupting from his hands. He launched fireballs with pinpoint accuracy, taking down two guards.
Meanwhile, Nina moved faster than the eye could see and darted between the remaining guards, striking them down. Her blows were seen as a blur by the recipients, and within seconds, the guards were dealt with.
Even though they had won the first skirmish, something didn’t sit right with Elena. She had been through countless ops and targeted many influential people, but the security around someone like Maria seemed lacking for someone like her.
’It almost feels like she wants to get caught...’
"Ma’am?" Nina asked. "Shall we proceed?"
"Yes..." Elena replied, pushing her thoughts out of her head. Her mission was to capture Maria and nothing else.
Elena led Team Bravo inside. On the way, they encountered minimal resistance as they made their way through the main mansion’s halls. Team Alpha had also breached the estate, and both teams converged in the central hall.
"Any injuries?" Marcus asked Elena, who shook her head. "Great, then let’s head inside."
However, just when they were about to head deeper, one of them was shot in the head by an arrow, collapsing on the floor.
"Take cover!" Elena yelled through the mind link, and everyone immediately scattered.
"Tsk, what the point of playing if you keep hiding?" A voice echoed through the hall.
Elena instructed Nina to take a look, but the moment she did, an arrow was shot towards her. Thankfully, she was safe, but outspending a speedster surprised the DRA elites.
"That’s one agile rat," the man scoffed. "But you won’t survive the next time."
Hearing the provocation, Elena smiled. Here, she thought things were getting boring when the man showed up.
"New instructions," Elena spoke through the link. "Kill everyone."
"For real?" came the collective question, followed by their smirks.
They have been holding back until now. But if Elena wanted them to go all out, then dealing with them would be easy.
The group emerged from their hiding places, protected by Elena’s forcefield. The archer fired another volley of arrows, only for them to bounce off the forcefield and impale him.
But as if that wasn’t enough, Elena pointed her hand towards him and the next moment, all of the man’s internal organs exploded, causing deathly haemorrhage.
However, before they could celebrate, more people rushed into the corridor. Unlike before, these guards were no ordinary henchmen; they were superhumans, fiercely loyal, and skilled in combat.
Surprisingly, they had the same composition, with the exception of Nina, whom Elena had brought into the team at the last moment without informing the higher-ups.
’As I thought, someone from the DRA is helping Maria. I need to report it to Rick later.’
The DRA operatives noticed them and shrugged. More food had arrived for them. Elena extended her telepathic field, communicating their strategy.
"Focus on neutralising their leaders first. Marcus, take the brute on the left. Kyle, target the pyrokinetic. Nina, disrupt their formation as you see fit."
As the two forces clashed, the hall erupted into chaos. Marcus charged at the brute, their fists colliding with bone-crushing force. The brute roared, swinging a massive fist of his own, but Marcus ducked, landing a series of rapid punches to his midsection.
At the same time, Kyle squared off against the opposing mage. Flames erupted as they exchanged fireballs, the heat intense and scorching. Kyle concentrated, channelling his energy into a massive burst of flames that overpowered his opponent, incinerating him.
Nina zipped through the battlefield, her speed disorienting the enemy guards. She struck with surgical precision, targeting pressure points and disabling them before they could react while the team finished the job for them.
All the while, Elena faced Maria’s second-in-command, a telekinetic like her. Objects flew through the air as they engaged in a battle of minds.
Elena deflected the projectiles with her telekinetic power, closing the distance between them. With a focused burst of energy, she sent her opponent crashing into the wall, unconscious, where Nina finished the job.
The elite guards were soon pushed back as the DRA operatives pressed their advantage. The tide of battle shifted in favour of the DRA.
Marcus delivered a final, decisive blow to the brute, smashing his head like a watermelon. Kyle extinguished his flames, victorious. Nina stood among the fallen guards, her breathing steady despite the exertion.
Now, all that was left was to find Maria. But things were about to get heated. Before they knew it, the entire estate exploded. Nothing was left behind but fire and ashes. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
Thankfully, Elena was able to protect her team by extending her forcefield. However, one fact remained unchanged: Maria wasn’t there.
"What the hell was that!?" Nine complained loudly, only to get smacked by Marcus.
"Shush, let Elena talk first."
"There’s nothing left to talk about," Elena said, clearly frustrated. "The DRA has a mole. Until we root them out, every mission like this is doomed to fail. Let’s head back first before the local authorities show up."
