Chapter 259: Death Of A Ranker (3)

Seizing the moment, Adrian rushed forward. It was the only time he could capture Charles. If he got him, Maria would no longer be able to dodge the questions about her morality.

Adrian wasn’t aware of Charles’s identity, but judging by his strength and how he could command the ghost soldiers, Adrian knew he had to be some higher-up working for Maria.

’But for that, I need to capture him first.’

He grabbed Charles’s head with both hands and brought his knee up, smashing it into Charles’s face. The first blow landed with a sickening crunch, blood spurting from Charles’s nose.

But Adrian didn’t stop there. He kneed Charles again and again, each strike fueled by the need to capture the man and keep him busy till James and John arrived there with the reinforcements.

Since Adrian had called them while rushing towards the hospital, it should only be a matter of time before they arrived. All Adrian had to do was to keep Charles busy so he couldn’t slip away.

Charles’s struggles weakened with each blow, his grip on Adrian’s arm loosening. Finally, with a final, forceful knee to the face, Charles went limp, collapsing to the ground, bloodied and defeated. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

Breathing heavily, Adrian stood over him, his body aching and his chest burning with pain. But he had won. He had survived.

Suddenly, Adrian heard the distant sound of sirens blaring, growing louder with each passing second.

The hospital’s parking lot was soon flooded with the flashing lights of the DRA vehicles, and hundreds of hunters poured out, ready for battle. Even Mei, DRA’s one and only S-rank hunter, was there.

’He went all out this time, didn’t he?’ Adrian smiled.

Ambulances arrived next, the medics jumping out to tend to the wounded even though most of them were most likely dead. Finally, John arrived at the scene with the guild members in tow.

The hospital was in tatters as the healers rushed inside along with a handful of hunters to protect them in case some enemies were hiding within.

Soon, Seraphina emerged from the building, holding Amelia while Fenris followed them around. Adria had left the wolf to protect Seraphina while she healed Amelia, as her condition wasn’t good.

James and John were preoccupied with barking orders. But even then, their eyes couldn’t help but be drawn to Adrian’s battered and bloodied form. It made them wonder what or who could have put him in such a condition.

Just then, Charles showed some movement, prompting Adrian to kick him again.

"Stay down," Adrian warned the old butler. "It’s over."

"... It’s over, he says," Charles replied before he broke down laughing.

Before Adrian knew what was happening, Charles pushed himself off the ground in a flash, blood dripping from his chest and face where Adrian had dealt the most damage.

Despite his grievous injuries, Charles’s laughter grew louder and more maniacal when he saw everyone gathered there. Maybe the old man had finally lost it, knowing everything was over.

But something told Adrian that wasn’t the case.

"What’s so funny?" Adrian asked, taking a step towards Charles.

Charles, still laughing, pointed a bloodied finger at the approaching DRA forces.

"You think they can stop someone like me? It’ll never happen," he sneered. "And even if they did, you won’t be alive to see it."

Adrian wondered what Charles meant by what he said. Judging by his condition, he was in no shape to continue fighintg.

Even if he was, there were hundreds of hunters there. Charles could not survive their attacks, no matter how strong he was.

But Charles’s laughter didn’t wane. Instead, it intensified as he raised his hand, a dark energy gathering around him.

Adrian didn’t know what it was, but it couldn’t have been anything good, so he shot towards Charles, hoping to stop him.

Before Adrian could get there, Charles released a skill, and a dome of darkness enveloped them both. The world outside disappeared, replaced by an eerie, silent void.

Adrian blinked, trying to adjust to the sudden darkness. Even his eyes couldn’t see through the dark. The parking lot, the sirens, the lights—everything was gone.

’What the hell is this place?’

<It’s a domain master. A place where the conjurer of the skill has some advantage over the others trapped within. You can think of it as an ultimate skill.>

’...I see.’

Suddenly, Charles appeared before him. He was still bleeding, which was a relief. However, the wounds didn’t seem to bother him all that much.

"Welcome to the Silent Kill Zone," Charles announced. "A place worthy of someone like me. My absolute killing move."

It went without saying that Charles was quite proud of the skill. That was the cause of Adrian’s worry. From the brief fight they had before, Adrian more or less knew of Charles’s character.

Charles had always been a strong, stoic, no-nonsense kind of man. Yet within the confines of his own domain, he transformed into something akin to a submissive slave in a sex dungeon, utterly controlled by his surroundings.

The stark shift in his behaviour contrasted with the man Adrian thought Charles was.

<Perhaps this is his true nature, hidden from the world. As long as he remains unseen and always dispatches his prey within his own domain, his secret is safe and well-guarded. Allowing him to express his true self.>

’Fucking weirdo...’

"Haha! You’re speechless, aren’t you?" Charles’s voice echoed in the room. "Ah... I can’t blame you. That is the beauty of my domain-"

"Ah, shut your trap," Adrian sighed, getting annoyed. "Sure, this place might be majestic and whatnot. But you can’t keep this up forever. You’re already on the brink of death, and it’s only a matter of time before you bleed to death."

"Perhaps," Charles replied. "But I won’t go down without a fight. Here, I have the advantage. And you are just another prey."

"We’ll see about that," Adrian said, his eyes glowing with a golden glow.
