Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer-Chapter 258: Death Of A Ranker (2)
Chapter 258: Death Of A Ranker (2)
Having given their orders, the ghost soldiers swarmed Adrian. But the second one of their attacks landed on him; three barriers were erected around him.
The barriers resulted from Adrian’s [Obsidian Armour] and [Fey’s Mana Core]. Although he had a low chance of triggering one of them, let alone all three, it happened, and Charles was taken aback.
He knew Adrian’s poison and other abilities, but it was the first time he had seen him using barrier magic. Obviously, he had no idea it was all because of Adrian’s gear and not some magic.
Meanwhile, despite the best efforts, the soldiers couldn’t break through a single barrier, let alone three. But breaking through the barriers was the least of their worries.
Adrian revealed Hydra’s Fang and cut down the ghost soldiers around him. With a single swing, he severed countless heads while maiming even more.
Those remaining few struck Adrian together, thinking their combined attacks would weaken the barrier. However, in doing so, they triggered his armour’s set effect.
[Synergy Skill: Obsidian Retribution has been activated.]
A sudden burst of energy erupted from Adrian. A shockwave radiated outward, knocking the ghost soldiers back and even killing some of them. The force of the blast was so intense that it created yet another crater within the first one, blowing all the debris everywhere.
Charles’ eyes widened in surprise as his confident smirk disappeared for a moment. He hadn’t expected Adrian to be capable of such a powerful counterattack.
"Impressive," Charles admitted, watching Adrian stand before him without a scratch. "It’s been a while since I’ve faced someone like you."
Bang!
Adrian didn’t reply and lunged towards Charles, the ground cracking beneath his feet. Charles snarled, assuming a defensive position and readied himself for Adrian’s move.
But Adrian wasn’t coming at him just yet. Instead, he dug the dagger deep into the ground before throwing the rubble at Charles. The butler scoffed at Adrian’s childish move as if some pebbles would do him any harm.
Curling his fists, Charles released a targeted shockwave, shattering the rocks into dust. However, Adrian never intended to attack Charles with the stones. It was a mere distraction.
By the time Charles destroyed the rocks, Adrian had sped past him and unleashed an array of attacks on him. However, Charles wasn’t one to fall for a move like that and retaliated in kind.
Fists were met with fists, legs with legs as their fight grew intense. Whenever they collided, multiple pits were created around them following a thundershock.
They were each other’s mortal enemies now and left to expense to best the other. Adrian’s anger and Charles’s hate for him had boiled to the brim, so much so that none of them bothered to dodge each other’s attacks and only wanted the opponent’s head at all costs.
Once in a while, the ghost soldiers would try to intervene, but they were blown by the shockwaves of Adrian and Charles’s collision. Even if Charles had blocked the comms, there was no way such sounds wouldn’t alert the authorities.
Charles knew it and grew more frantic, and changed the target to killing Adrian instead of Felicia. However, even when he managed to hit Adrian, the attack didn’t do much to him, frustrating Charles even more.
’Why the hell nothing is working on him!’
Although it looked like his attacks weren’t doing anything, Adrian’s armour was taking severe hits one after another. Their damage reduction numbed Adrian’s pain, but nothing could protect the armour from Charles’s continuous cannon-like punches.
Once the armour was gone, there wasn’t much to protect Adrian. Even he knew that, and that’s why he was giving it his all, trying to end the fight before he lost the armour for good.
However, there wasn’t much he could do regarding the situation. Both of them were stuck in a weird limbo, but the momentum slowly shifted towards Charles’s side.
Adrian circled Charles, catching his breath. He had been battling Charles for what felt like hours. Both men were weary, but neither was willing to give up.
Sweat dripped from Adrian’s brow as he watched for an opening, his breath coming in short, sharp bursts. Finally, he saw his chance and lunged forward, driving his dagger into Charles’s right side.
But as the blade sank into flesh, Adrian realised that although Charles was wincing in pain, he wasn’t backing away. Something was wrong, but Adrian only realised it after falling into Charles’s trap.
A wicked grin spread across Charles’s face as he clamped his hand down on Adrian’s wrist, locking it between his hand and underarm.
"I got you now!" Charles growled, curling up his fist.
Realising what was coming for him next, Adrian tried to pull away. But Charles’s vice grip ensured he had nowhere to go. Before he could react, Charles unleashed a brutal punch, his fist connecting squarely with Adrian’s chest. freёweɓnovel.com
The force of the blow sent Adrian flying across the crater, and he crashed into the other end. The impact knocked the wind out of him.
Adrian crumpled to the ground, gasping for air. Only when he looked down did he realise the armour had shattered under Charles’s relentless assault.
"You might be beyond S-rank," Charles advanced slowly as he savoured his inevitable victory. "But you’re still a novice. Nothing you do will be enough to defeat me."
Adrian struggled to his feet; his body cried for help with every movement, but he didn’t care. He gritted his teeth, refusing to show weakness despite the pain coursing through him.
"...this isn’t over yet," he managed to speak, making Charles laugh.
"Oh, it’s very much over," he said, raising his fist, ready to deliver another devastating blow. "I’ll make sure of it."
Adrian’s mind raced. He knew he needed to do something. But with his armour gone and his dagger stuck by Charles’s side, there wasn’t much to do... or so Charles thought.
Adrian, on one knee, saw his chance. As Charles’s punch came down, he twisted to the side, mustering every ounce of his remaining strength. With a fierce kick, he drove the dagger, still lodged in Charles’s side, even deeper into the wound.
"ARGHHH!!!"
Charles let out a scream of agony, the pain causing him to miss his punch. Stumbling, he clutched at his side, his face contorted with rage and pain.
"I told you, this isn’t over yet."
