Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer-Chapter 251: Return
Chapter 251: Return
Adrian emerged from the dungeon, carrying Felicia’s unconscious form in his arms. His shirt was draped over her to cover her pitiful state. His team followed close behind, all of them battered and weary from the ordeal but alive and kicking.
As they stepped out, the portal behind them flickered and abruptly closed. John had been waiting for them but was shocked when the portal closed.
He looked around, expecting to see Lucas and the two healers somewhere behind Adrian, but they were nowhere to be seen.
He wasn’t the only one shocked by the implications, and the media personnel there began circulating their theories. But one thing was common among them all: the S-rank dual-class hunter, Lucas Oliviera, was no more.
Honestly, he couldn’t care less about the healers. They were low-ranking expendable pawns for him. But Lucas was like his rook. Having spent millions on him, John wasn’t willing to believe the blatant truth before him.
"Where the hell is Lucas?" John demanded, but Adrian didn’t pay any attention to him and headed towards the medics.
Unaware of the commotion, Adrian set Felicia down gently on a stretcher as medics rushed forward to take her. Seraphina explained to them about her wounds while Adrian and the others were being attended to by the professional for their own injuries.
John pushed through the crowd, waving off the media, who were trying to get closer, wanting to get a statement from the participants.
"Security, get them out of here now!" John yelled.
As the security team moved to clear the area, John turned his attention back to Adrian.
"What the hell happened in there?" John barked.
"Calm down-" Adrian replied while a medic cast healing magic on his wound, even though the troll blood was already working its magic.
"Like hell, I’m calming down!" John yelled again, pushing back the medic. "You tell me what happened in there right now."
Unfortunately for John, in his frantic state, seemed to have forgotten who Adrian was. Without waiting momentarily, Adrian grabbed the A-rank hunter by his collar and effortlessly lifted him off the ground.
"I don’t have time to deal with a brat like you," Adrian snarled, staring John straight in the eyes. "When I say calm down, you calm down. Is that clear?"
Adrian’s abrupt action seemed to have knocked some sense into John as he nodded and was promptly let go. Adrian then helped the medic back to her feet and asked her to leave for a moment. After the medic hurried away, he turned his attention towards John.
"Do you always lose your temper like this?" Adrian taunted and rolled his eyes. "To answer your question, Lucas and the healers are dead. They died because, unfortunately, Lucas’ ego was bigger than their smooth brain. Is that all you wanted to know?"
"...are you sure?" John mumbled, hoping it was a bad joke.
Unfortunately, his question only made Adrian shake his head, and he handed his hunter’s phone to him.
"Take a look," he said, opening the gallery.
The pictures John saw made him frown in disgust. He couldn’t believe a famed hunter like Lucas was reduced to such a state. But that wasn’t enough to satisfy his curiosity, and he wanted to know more about the incident.
Although Adrian wasn’t in the mood to tell a story, he told John everything that happened from his perspective.
He described how Lucas had refused to cooperate and had left on his own with Felicia and the healers and how, eventually, he and Sophia had found them in the state they were shown in those pictures.
"If you have any other questions, I’m afraid Felicia will have to answer those for you," Adrian said, turning around to leave. "I’ll submit the official incident report later. For now, I want a drink and some rest."
John nodded, still in shock at what Adrian had told him. However, the answers wouldn’t help him. The money he’d lost on Lucas was gone for good, and his plans to recover it were flushed down the drain. Yet, he knew there were other ways to get the money back.
"Michaela, prepare for an operation," John mumbled. "Yes, that one. I’ll instruct the medics to drive Felicia to the facility. I hope you can deal with the rest. Also, meet me at my place once you’re done... I’d need your services tonight."

Sometime later, Fenrir Villa.
[The ???’s egg expresses its discontent with all that wasted food.]
"You’re not the only one disappointed by the outcome," Adrian replied.
He wanted to torture Tim and make him regret ever crossing paths with him again. But thanks to that damned demon, he had to make do with what little time he had.
’More than that, I missed out on a great opportunity.’
Adrian sighed as the quest list flashed before his eyes. It was the perfect opportunity for him to complete the ascension quest. Garath was a strong opponent, and Adrian wondered what abilities he’d have gotten if he decided to consume one of his organs.
But even more than that, he was excited to experience the powers of a [True Chimaera] and wondered what changes it would have on him and his abilities.
’No point wondering about it now...’
Other than that, Adrian was also taken aback by a literal egg’s appetite. He had hoped to collect the beastmen corpses and then devour them to increase his stats.
Unfortunately for him, the egg took a liking to them instead and ate them all before Adrian could do anything. In other words, the dungeon run yielded him nothing but a headache.
Adrian had already planned to kill Lucas in the dungeon to complete his ascension quest. Besides, if he were to absorb a human organ, he’d target someone strong. Lucas was the perfect choice for that.
Besides, since they were in a dungeon, he could have easily made up a story to feed the rest. But thanks to the Nexarians, his plans were ruined.
’Now I need to look for a new target,’ Adrian sighed as his head hit the pillow. ’The question is, who?’
