Chapter 248: Chimaera Tamer (2)

"Bark all you want," Garath smirked, swirling his whip. "You will be a part of my army of slaves!"

"Keep telling that to yourself," Adrian retorted, summoning Hydra’s fang.

The next moment, Garath’s whip shot towards Adrian like a venomous serpent, seeking its prey, who weaved out of its path while rushing towards the nomad. Tim decided it was enough and lunged as well.

However, before he could get any closer, Fenris jumped him, scratching his cheek with her sharp claws.

Tim rolled through the mud, digging his hand in the ground to stop himself. However, there was no moment of respite for him as Fenris howled, increasing her size as well as summoning two shadow wolves to keep Tim busy.

"Get out of my way!" Tim snarled, rushing towards the wolves.

The shadow wolves charged towards him, but being the ace assassin, he quickly took care of one of them while jumping past the other. He had no intention of getting wrapped up by mere beasts when the one he wanted revenge on was standing in front.

However, Tim seemed to have underestimated Fenris’ dedication to stop him as the mighty wolf whipped him with her tail, forcing him to take a few steps back.

"...I’ll kill you all!" he roared, and even Fenris rolled her eyes at his childish declaration.

Meanwhile, Adrian and Garath were engaged in their duel. Garath’s whip shot out towards Adrian once more. Like before, Adrian dodged it... or he thought he did when the whip split into several thinner whips.

"Damn it!"

Adrian cursed and hurriedly activated [Nemean Blessing] to protect himself, as there was no way he could have dodged all seven of the whips.

He got hit by the whip several times, but to Garath’s surprise, there wasn’t even a scratch on his prey.

"Interesting... very interesting," Garath smiled, his interest in Adrian increasing by the passing moment.

’I didn’t want to use it because of its hour-long cooldown, but I don’t have a choice. But now that I have, I might as well use it to the fullest.’

Since the blessing would last for a minute, Adrian abandoned all thoughts of defence and rushed towards Garath. Taken aback by Adrian’s sudden change of tactics, Garath tried to push him back with blow after blow.

Upon noticing his attacks weren’t doing anything to Adrian, Garath decided to create distance between them. However, it was too late as Adrian grabbed the whip and yanked Garath towards him.

"This is the end!" Adrian smiled, thrusting the blade towards Garath’s neck.

"Not yet!"

Before Adrian could realise what was happening, Garath jumped sideways—something Adrian didn’t expect because of his opponent’s bulky figure. But thanks to that, Garath managed to dodge the attack.

"That was too close," Garath mumbled as he traced the wound on his neck and shoulder given to him by Adrian.

It had been a while since he last got injured like that, making Garath smile. If he had been interested in Adrian before, now he was madly in love with him.

Garath wanted to have him as his slave at all costs and lost all composure. The degenerate bastard even licked his lips, imagining the sounds Adrian would make while he whipped the shit out of him.

However, there was one problem. Following their brief interaction, Garath knew he couldn’t defeat Adrian alone. Not while Adrian had a seemingly endless pool of tactics to surprise him.

Thankfully, fighting alone wasn’t his strength. Kicking Adrian away, Garath tore off his bracelet and threw it on the ground while chanting a spell.

Adrian didn’t know what the guy was doing but didn’t want to take any chances and rushed towards the nomad to end the mess before it got even messier.

However, before he could do anything, the three beads from Garath’s bracelet turned into three formidable beasts. One of them was a three-headed hound that resembled the mythical guardian of hell, Cerberus.

A lizardman was sitting on top of the dog, but it wasn’t just any lizardman. It was a mutant with wings attached to its back. From the final bead came a massive bird-like creature Adrian had never seen before, who quickly perched up on Garath’s shoulder.

Adrian noticed that the wound he had given to him healed as soon as the bird touched Garath’s skin.

’Is that a phoenix?’

The Lizardman aside, it was strange that Garath had a Phoenix and a Cerberus-kin. After all, both creatures were considered mythical beings, yet their mana, stats and skills didn’t do justice to their status.

But something was off about them, and Adrian figured out what it was as soon as he used [Analysis] on them.

’They are clones?’

<It seems likely. Real mythical creatures wouldn’t serve a mortal master willingly. The tamer must have gotten hold of their genetic material and created them himself, or perhaps he had some outside assistance.>

’Victor... no wonder they were close.’

"These are my most prized possessions," Garath smirked as he announced, interrupting Adrian’s thoughts. "No one has ever been able to defeat me as long as these three protect me on the battlefield."

One look at their stats, and Adrian knew Garath wasn’t exaggerating. The creatures were formidable, but more than that, they complemented each other’s skill.

The Cerberus was fast and strong but weak in defence. The Lizardman sitting on top of it had strong defence but lacked speed.

Even though taking them on individually was relatively straightforward, together, they covered each other’s weaknesses. As for the bird, Adrian already knew it had extraordinary healing capabilities. It meant that even if the Lizardman or Cerberus got injured, it would heal them instantly.

All of a sudden, things were not looking so good for Adrian.

<Master, you must kill them in one move, or that accursed baby Phoenix will keep healing them.> freeweɓnovel.cøm

’I know, Lucina. But it’s easier said than done.’ Adrian sighed. ’It would be easier to take the Phoenix down first, but I don’t think Garath would allow that.’

It wasn’t impossible. With the ability and enchantments on Hydra’s Fang, Adrian should be able to deal with them if he managed to land a critical hit. However, like he said, it wasn’t like Garath would allow him to do as he pleased.

Someone as experienced as him might have already seen all the outcomes and prepared beforehand to counter them. But... what if Adrian had pulled off something no one expected?

’This could work!’
