Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer-Chapter 239: Press Conference (3)
Chapter 239: Press Conference (3)
Felicia got down to comfort her while people struggled not to laugh at their faces. Even John looked like he was holding back his breath, afraid that even breathing would make him laugh at Lucas’s misfortune.
However, even in his distress, Lucas’s eyes were burning with anger, shooting deathly glares at Adrian and cursing him in his mind. His mouth, however, was quite busy, so he couldn’t say anything. But what stoked his fury even more was that this was all happening in front of his idol.
"What happened here... oh my gosh," the event planner came rushing in only to pinch her nose.
"I think he had some... bad shrimp," Adrian said with a sympathetic smile. "I mean, even A-rank hunters are human, after all. Things like this might happen at any time."
Lucas couldn’t do anything but grit his teeth as Adrian’s backhanded comment made the public burst out laughing. The people who didn’t even dare to look him in the eye were now laughing at him.
Lucas couldn’t comprehend the new feeling of humiliation and got angry. Despite his state, he got up and rushed towards Adrian with his fist clenched. Felicia tried to stop him, but she wasn’t quick enough.
However, before the overgrown manchild could even do anything, Adrian performed a leg sweep to knock Lucas off his feet and lightly kicked him in the chest to let him slide into the pool of vomit.
The reporters not only recorded the scene but also telecasted it on their respective networks. Just like that, Lucas’s reputation took a significant hit as unreliable and with many anger issues.
"Lucas!" Felicia exclaimed and ran up to check on her brother.
"He’ll live," Adrian commented, adjusting his tuxedo. "I didn’t kick him hard enough to kill him as I was worried he would puke and ruin my attire."
Quite a few people snickered, but John, on the other hand, was horrified but then got furious. Lucas was a prized soldier for his guild, but he was nowhere near significant enough for him to sour his relationship with Adrian.
Although John couldn’t fire Lucas as it would cause unnecessary issues for him, he could certainly make his life hell if he wanted, and that’s what he intended until Adrian stopped him.
"He’s unwell. Let him be," Adrian said, taking another look at Lucas, who was unconscious, probably due to a spike in blood pressure. "People tend to do weird things when they are ill. Think of this incident as one problematic child throwing tantrums and move on."
Although Adrian said that, John knew he didn’t mean it and was only saying it as cameras were everywhere. Anything they do will be out there for everyone to see.
Besides, Lucas had already destroyed his image amongst the public. John didn’t want to ruin his own image by kicking someone already down.
"Very well," John replied, gesturing Adrian to move onwards. "Let’s start the press conference first. We can meet the other guests later."

Everyone was seated in the grand hall for the press conference within moments. Adrian sat in the middle, flanked by John and George. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
John, the guild master, naturally stood beside Adrian while George was there to ensure Adrian didn’t say anything that could get him in trouble.
"Alright, now we’ll start taking questions. Everyone will get the opportunity, so please don’t be hasty and maintain order," John began before nodding for the reporters to start.
"I’m Nicki Gildal from Force magazine. How do you feel about failing to clear your first dungeon?"
Upon hearing the question, Adrian chuckled, "Well, it certainly taught me not to trust other hunting groups in the dungeon. My team did all the heavy lifting, and I dropped my guard for a second only for someone to steal the kill."
Adrian continued, "Since it was my first time in a dungeon on earth, it also opened my eyes to how greedy people can be as I had forgotten that lesson. Next question, please."
"Hello, I’m Natalie Baitman from ABC News. I’m sure you’ve been asked this a lot, but where did you disappear for six years, and how did you end up in a dungeon?"
"I’m afraid he can’t answer that," George stepped up. "My client is not obligated to answer any questions related to an ongoing investigation with the DRA. Next question."
The reporters were a bit taken aback by the news. They were hoping to learn more about the incident, but it seemed that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon.
"What are your opinions about the White Tiger clan?"
"What about them do you want to know?" Adrian shot back.
"Excuse me...? I don’t quite get what you mean," the reporter asked, unsure of how to respond.
Adrian broke the tension with a smile and continued, "I thought I would be asked about other things than a bunch of hooligans trying to bully their way to the top."
Silence. Adrian’s words were like a bomb dropped on the reporters as they went silent. However, it only lasted for a moment before chaos erupted.
The White Tiger clan was no joke. Everybody knew that. They were low on the official rankings, but that was only because they were interested in killing other hunters more than monsters. By rebuking them, Adrian had done something no other hunter ever had done.
However, not wanting to make the situation tense, John asked for the topic to be changed, and the reporters were smart enough to take the hint for once.
"What are your thoughts about other high-rankers?"
"I think it’s rude to have opinions on someone whom you haven’t met in person, so I don’t think I can answer that question at this moment-"
Adrian was in the middle of speaking when a redhead female reporter jumped up and asked him the question he had been waiting for.
"Then what would you think about the recent dungeon collapse for which you have been blamed for?" she asked.
Adrian took one look at the reporter and knew she was affiliated with Maria’s guild. In other words, she was asking questions on Maria’s behalf, likely to portray him as the villain.
’This will be fun.’
