Chapter 187: Chapter 187: Memories

Before Aurora could say anything else, Mia piped up again.

"How about we split up?" Mia suggested brightly. "It’ll be faster if we shop in smaller groups. Otherwise, we’ll just slow each other down."

She turned pointedly to Aurora. "Aurora, you should go with Spencer."

Betsy’s face immediately stiffened.

"I-I’ll go with her!" Betsy said quickly, grabbing Aurora’s arm.

"And I’ll go too!" Dana added nervously.

Before Mia could respond, Spencer said firmly, "I agree with Mia."

His deep voice carried through the air, and it echoed strangely because at the exact same time, Dana and Betsy had also blurted, "No!" and "I’ll go!"

The mall’s ambient noise seemed to hush for a second, leaving behind an awkward silence.

Betsy turned toward Aurora with tears welling up in her eyes, looking pitiful.

"Aurora...please don’t ignore me," she said, her voice trembling. "I’m truly sorry... I didn’t mean to hurt you."

But deep inside, Betsy’s thoughts were far less pretty.

’Ugh. This btch thinks she’s better than me just because Spencer is treating her like some princess now.’

Aurora hesitated, her fingers tightening slightly at her side. Her eyes flickered to Spencer instinctively.

Spencer caught the look instantly. His eyes hardened as he turned toward Luca and said coldly, "Control your girlfriend."

Then, softer, to Aurora, he said, "I have something important to discuss with you. Come with me."

Aurora hesitated just for a second before nodding.

Spencer immediately reached out, lightly guiding her by the small of her back as they walked away.

Betsy tried to step forward, but Luca grabbed her arm tightly and muttered, "Not now. Don’t ruin everything."

Betsy bit her lip so hard it turned white, glaring daggers at Mia, who just smiled innocently like she had nothing to do with any of it.

’Aurora’s not even that cold to Spencer anymore... maybe she actually likes him now. I should help them’ Mia thought.

Mia clapped her hands again and beamed at the remaining group. "Alright! Who’s ready to shop?"

........

Spencer and Aurora were alone now, weaving through the crowd toward the elevators.

The mall music thrummed gently around them, but there was a strange sort of bubble around the two of them—private, warm, charged.

As they waited for the escalator, Spencer suddenly reached out and boldly took Aurora’s hand into his.

Aurora stiffened immediately. "What are you doing?" she hissed, jerking slightly.

Spencer squeezed her hand gently, not letting go. His voice was low, almost vulnerable.

"I have a trauma and fear of getting lost. I need to hold on to someone’s hand to prevent myself from getting into a panic attack."

Aurora: "..." Wow! What an excuse.

She was speechless at Spencer’s shamelessness.

She glared at him, but Spencer just stared back at her, steady and unwavering.

His deep brown eyes were shamelessly, softly seductive. Not overly intense, not pushy—but a kind of slow pull, like gravity.

Aurora tried to stay mad... she really did.

But since she was standing one step above him, her gaze accidentally dropped—and what she saw made her heart nearly stop.

Because of the way Spencer’s simple black T-shirt clung to him... she could see it.

The faint, unmistakable outline of his well-defined abs and broad chest muscles was visible through the thin fabric.

Aurora’s eyes widened in shock.

She immediately snapped her gaze back up, her ears burning.

But Spencer caught it.

He smirked lazily, the corner of his lips lifting.

"If you want," he murmured, voice low and teasing, "I could book a changing room upstairs."

Aurora blinked at him, feeling her face start to heat.

Spencer leaned a little closer, lowering his voice even more.

"You can admire me properly then," he whispered. "Touch too, if you want. I won’t even ask for any compensation."

Aurora clenched her fists.

"What... compensation?" she asked before she could stop herself.

Spencer grinned wider.

"A label," he said simply.

Aurora scowled. "What label?"

His gaze softened, almost unbearably tender now.

"Boyfriend," he said.

Aurora made a strangled noise in her throat and immediately turned her face away, pretending to admire the elevator panel like it was the most interesting thing in the world.

Behind her, Spencer chuckled, the sound low and husky.

Suddenly, she would ask,

"Will you truly be thrown out?"

Spencer, wanting her sympathy, blinked, and his heart skipped a beat. Was she worried about him?

She was still the sweet Aurora he knew!

With a sad expression, he said softly,

"I will be. But I can’t give up on you. I just love you too much."

Aurora rolled her eyes,

"We met just 2 weeks ago."

"Or maybe not," Spencer said with certainty.

"Don’t say you fell in love at first sight." Aurora joked.

Spencer paused, and the memories of childhood rushed to his mind.

..........

An 8-year-old red-haired girl walked up in front of a luxurious villa and looked at the villa with a determined gaze. Then she rang the bell and waited for a long while.

The door of the villa opened, and a boy of similar age rushed out. His soft black hair was styled neatly, and his blue eyes were filled with excitement.

In the white t-shirt and black pants styled with black suspenders and bow tie, he looked like a prince charming. The black jacket in his left hand dangled as he reached her.

The boy looked at the red-haired girl and asked with ragged breathing,

"What are you doing here, Aurora? It is cold here! I asked you to stay indoors. You get sick easily, dummy!"

With that, he draped the black jacket around Aurora.

The little Aurora raised her head and said with a serious expression,

"Spencer, let’s run away. My parents will never agree to let me get married to you."

Tears would appear in her eyes as she told her grievance.

Little Spencer panicked and asked,

"What happened? Why wouldn’t they agree? And don’t cry. Do you want chocolate? Or games? As long as you don’t cry, I will give you everything."

"I want money." Little Aurora said while sniffling.

Little Spencer didn’t hesitate and took out all the money he had. It was $150. He stuffed it in her hand and said,

"Here, here, now don’t cry."

Little Aurora took the money, her tears stopped at once. Yet she stared at him with shimmering eyes and said,

"I want Swiss chocolate too."

"Okay. Wait here." Little Spencer said and ran toward the villa

Little Spencer ran into the house like a boy on a mission, his small feet thudding against the polished wooden floors.

He dashed to the kitchen, rummaging through cabinets until he found the precious treasure: a shiny box of imported Swiss chocolates.

Clutching it tightly against his chest, he raced back outside, nearly tripping over the doorstep in his hurry.

Aurora was still standing there, looking up at the cloudy sky, her red hair like a bright flame against the gray.

"Here!" Spencer said, shoving the box into her arms with a wide, earnest smile.

"You have chocolate, money, and my jacket. So now you have everything! You don’t need to cry anymore."

Little Aurora sniffled again, then gave him a shaky, small smile — the kind that made Spencer’s heart feel weird and warm.

"Thanks, Spencer," she said quietly. "I will keep it as a food ration for our journey to a new country."

"Can you tell me what happened? Why are you talking about running away? " Spencer asked anxiously.

At those words, Aurora’s eyes would shimmer with tears, but she stopped herself and said,

"My father...I told him that I wanted to get married to you. And he laughed, saying your family won’t accept me, and you won’t marry me in the future either! So I want to get married right now!"

More tears would stream down Aurora’s eyes.

Spencer panicked, his young mind racing for solutions.

He hated seeing Aurora cry. It made his chest hurt in a way he didn’t understand.

Without thinking too much, he blurted, "Then let’s get married right now!"

Aurora blinked up at him, surprised. "Really?"

"Yeah!" Spencer nodded fiercely.

"We don’t need anyone’s permission. You’re my favorite person! I’ll marry you even if I have to fight the whole world."

He grabbed her tiny hand with both of his and looked dead serious. "From now on, you’re my wife!"

Aurora’s eyes widened, and a slow, bright smile broke across her face.

It was the kind of smile that could light up the gloomiest day.

"Okay!" she said happily, clutching the box of chocolates and the jacket closer to her chest like they were sacred treasures.

Spencer hesitated for a second, then leaned down and kissed the back of Aurora’s hand, just like he’d seen princes do in the cartoons.

Aurora gasped, her cheeks turning bright red.

"Now it’s official," Spencer said solemnly. "You’re mine."

"And you’re mine," Aurora declared, equally serious.

For a long moment, they just stood there, smiling shyly at each other.

Then a loud voice broke the spell.

"Spencer! Dinner time!" a woman called from inside the house.
