Chapter 317: Fixing past mistakes (2)
Camilla laughed, certain her father wouldn’t be so foolish as to break his fangs. They were not the same.
Orlork Blackthorn could not be without his fangs, and he knew it well. It wouldn’t be a good look for the Blackthorns since the other families would have something to look down on them for.
Camilla was very certain her father wouldn’t do it until she saw him opening his mouth and his right hand going towards his fang. freёweɓnovel.com
"Stop!" Camilla yelled, going to her father’s side to grab his hand. "You cannot do that. What is wrong with you?"
’"I am making up for what I did wrong. This will please you, so I shall break them. I am truly sorry for what I did to you, Camilla. It is only fair that I lose my fangs as well," said Orlork.
"No, you cannot do that. You are Orlork Blackthorn. Ragnar, talk some sense into him," Camilla said, looking to her brother for help.
Ragnar didn’t know what to do. Camilla and their father were both stubborn. If someone getting their fangs broken was going to make Camilla happy, then Orlork was going to make it happen.
"I think it is time that I leave," Ragnar said, not wanting to be involved in their talk. "I will return later tonight."
"Ragnar!" Camilla called out to her brother. "You’re no use. You cannot break your fangs. I will not allow it," Camilla said, keeping her hold on Orlork’s hand. "This isn’t what will make me happy."
"I was the one who broke your fangs, not your brother. If you have other reasons you want to see him punished, then you will have to deal with him yourself. I am making up for what I did wrong," said Orlork.
"This isn’t going to make me happy. How can one of the Blackthorn elders not have his fangs? You’ll have the entire family angry with me, and I don’t need that now. Just leave me alone," Camilla said, letting go of Orlork’s hand. "Go back to sleep and leave me."
"I will not be resting until I know that we are on a good path forward. You are my only daughter. I don’t wish to go on another day without us in a better place. Come home, Camilla. Your mother and I built that home for our children," Orlork said.
Orlork never gave an order that Camilla needed permission to enter his home. It was one more thing which Nathaniel thought he had the power to do.
"Being the oldest, I have placed a lot of responsibility on your brother. I tried to shape him into something good to be there for the family while I rested, but the power got to his head. That is also my fault," Orlork admitted.
Camilla turned her back on her father and started to walk away. "It is about time that you noticed all your mistakes. Ragnar could help with some of the responsibilities you placed on Nathaniel. I will admit that I was always troublesome."
Looking back, Camilla knew she did things which weren’t fitting for Blackthorn. She made her parents worry. She acted as she liked then because she knew she couldn’t beat Nathaniel being the favourite, so no responsibilities would be handed to her.
"I caused you a lot of trouble in the past, so I suppose hearing that I went on a rampage attacking others was believable. I only wanted my father to listen to me before you punished me. If what you said is true, you should have told me the options my grandfather gave you," said Camilla.
She would have been upset then, but she would have understood her father’s position and not wondered why Orlork hated her so much.
"I am tired of holding onto so much anger for years. You will have a long time before I fully forgive you, but I am willing to start. That doesn’t mean I want to be around the others and I won’t play nice with Nathaniel," Camilla said, since the others were dead to her.
Camilla only cared for Ragnar and Xavier. Thanks to the dinner she was invited to, she started to be fond of Selene.
Xavier proved why he was her favourite nephew since he married someone Camilla could get along with.
"I will try no matter how many years it takes. So, about you packing," Orlork said, wanting Camilla to stay.
"I must continue to pack if I am to move to your home. It will upset Nathaniel to know that I am there, and I will be much closer to Jasper. I have not given up on him yet," Camilla said, going to the front door to close it.
"You must leave Jasper alone, Camilla. His heart is frail," said Orlork.
"He is a pureblood, and as your servant, he must be strong to be at your side. I will not give up so easily," Camilla replied.
"He is like my son-"
"He shares no blood with us, so give it up. I shall take him from your side and have control over who wakes you," Camilla plotted.
"Why go through all that trouble when I can bestow the power of waking me to you?" Orlork asked, considering it now that Camilla would return with him.
Camilla couldn’t believe how much he was willing to offer her. "You would skip my brothers and place that responsibility on me?"
Orlork walked further into the home to get a good look. "I skipped all of you and passed it off to Jasper. I see no reason why I can’t skip your brothers and go to you. It is an important job where you must wake me just as I instructed you."
"I can do it," Camilla said, excited to take control. "And what about my mother?"
"Your mother has her servants tasked to wake her. I cannot change her orders," Orlork replied, leaving out one very important detail.
Orlork put his wife’s servants to rest so they wouldn’t wake her. He would be the one to decide when the woman who spoke of killing him would wake up.
"That is fine. Nathaniel has always wanted this task, so it will be enough to satisfy me. He might faint when he learns that not only am I returning home, but I have been given a little power. I hope to be around when he faints," Camilla said, looking forward to it.
"You should not live your life trying to upset your brother or being upset with Josephine. There are better things to do with your time," Orlork advised Camilla.
"I am well aware of that, but it brings me joy to see Nathaniel fail. As for Josephine, we will never be friends, but I have no need to fight her anymore," Camilla replied. "Come, I will prepare blood for you. You will need a lot for what I shall have you do."
Orlork followed Camilla, a small smile spread across his face as he looked forward to having a proper day with her.
