Chapter 306: Long night (3)

"Seraphina will be fine after she thinks it over. Truthfully, I knew this was coming once I heard that Selene got married. She has a life here while Seraphina and I are done with this town. If Selene weren’t married, we could all go together," said Thomas

"I should have approached her sooner, then she wouldn’t have been married to the Blackthorn boy. Is it too late to convince her to leave him and come with us?" Zephyr asked.

Thomas laughed. "I would never do that. From her letters, Selene sounds happy with him. She’s endured enough, don’t you think? She deserves to be happy. I just never thought it would be with a Blackthorn."

"We’re going to be stuck with Orlork forever," Zephyr said, annoyed.

"Him and all the others. The Blackthorns have always been picky about who enters their family, so I hope Selene doesn’t have a hard time. It would be good if she could move out of this town with Xavier. Then we could meet often," Thomas said, but he knew that was not going to happen.

"What are the chances of finding a witch and getting her to change our appearance?" Thomas inquired.

"She might turn you into something she can use for her spells. You will be able to see Selene. Both sides will make it possible. It is only hard to think of living so far away now," said Zephyr.

Zephyr didn’t intend to go so many days without seeing Selene. He had done it all now, and it was painful.

"Start packing what you will need. Selene has her childhood home back in her hands, so consider that a wedding gift to her. You know her heart. She will not be thinking of wedding presents," said Zephyr.

Selene would be focused on seeing her parents still alive.

"I know. Seraphina and I just had a vision of how it would go if Selene were to get married. Along with leaving, I think that is what is hurting her the most. It will get better once she sees Selene. It will get better for me," said Thomas.

All Thomas wanted now was to hold Selene and see with his eyes that she was well. That Xavier was treating her well, so Thomas could be comfortable knowing she was safe in Xavier’s hands.

Thomas looked where Seraphina had walked off to. "I think it is time that I go to her. She says she wants to be alone, but she is always waiting for someone to comfort her. Excuse me," he said, leaving Zephyr alone.

Zephyr used the time to look around at what would be most important for them to take with them. His eyes then settled on Asher, who was still unconscious.

Before anything else could happen, Zephyr wanted Asher out of his home and to check that no one was going to approach Selene.

Zephyr wanted to get to the bottom of Selene’s abilities, but his tests would have to wait for another day.

Zephyr walked over to Asher and picked him up to carry him somewhere else, where he would remain until it was time for them to all leave.

Later in the palace, Isaac arrived in search of Michael and to see how many were left in the court.

Finding humans who had demons attached to them wasn’t an easy task since there were humans running all around, trying to get away from the mess that Darius started.

Surprisingly, many of the fires were being put out by the town guards and men Isaac had not seen before. He wondered if it was Michael’s doing to prove how good he would be as king or if someone else had done it.

’It couldn’t be the court,’ Isaac thought.

The court didn’t care about humans fixing their destroyed homes.

Isaac found Michael walking with many guards, just as Darius had done, but in Michael’s case, he was giving the guards orders on what to do around the town.

"You look like the king already. If I didn’t know any better, I would say that the vote happened and you were selected as king. You’ve got the guards following you so intently," Isaac said, examining the men who blindly listened to only Darius. "How did you do it?"

"Someone needed to step up, so I did. And you are?" Michael inquired.

"I was sent here by Lord Blackthorn to aid you in the search for demons. I have been hunting them down and handing off anyone who looks suspicious to the town guards. I still need more men to help me search," said Isaac.

"Leave to do as I instructed you," Michael ordered the palace guards. "As for you, there’s no need for you to search for demons anymore. Come with me," Michael said, leading the way.

"It was a while ago that the palace got reports of a human attacking other humans. It was very unexpected since they should be attacking vampires after what Darius did. This man took down quite a few of his kind and then strangely asked us to kill him," Michael shared.

"Kill him?" Isaac replied, surprised by this. "Why? Was he rooting for vampires? It would not be the first time I hear of a human loving us more than their kind."

"That wasn’t the case here. He dropped his weapon, which turned out to be a holy weapon. The guards noticed something unusual about him, so they brought him here along with the humans he killed. I knew right away from first glance that he’s a demon," said Michael.

Michael continued, "I don’t understand why yet, but he went on a rampage, killing other humans who showed signs of having a demon attached to them. He is still alive here in the palace dungeon. The court wants to keep him alive to study him."

"Haven’t we seen the downside of leaving someone alive for too long? It’s not a good idea to have a demon in the palace. Wouldn’t it feed on all that happens here? It must die," Isaac said, once again annoyed by the decision of the court. "Have we learned nothing from tonight?"

"I am not going to let him live for much longer. That human is hellbent on killing himself anyway. He is bashing his head against the walls in the dungeon. I am only waiting to hear if there are more sightings of demons before I kill him," said Michael.

Michael didn’t want a demon in the palace during the time he would be present. He certainly didn’t want to give the demon time to grow stronger.

"It is good to see that someone here has sense. I was starting to think that the palace was doomed. Since this is taken care of, I have no more reason to be here. I left the palace court because of Darius," Isaac shared.

"And now you can join it for me. I need someone sensible like you. Someone who isn’t so loyal to Darius and all his plans. Someone who could rank above all the other men in the court. Stay," Michael said, wanting to know more about the man beside him. "There is much for us to do tonight."
