Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 300: Panic (2)
Chapter 300: Panic (2)
"Don’t run! Stay and fight!" Cassandra yelled, angered at the sight of her peers running away.
They dropped like flies, but Cassandra still thought they should push on. They weren’t too far off from the main house where Selene was inside.
Cassandra didn’t know what came over her, but her hatred for Selene came back, and all she wanted was to kill Selene. Then, she wanted to find Gabriel and kill him.
Cassandra gritted her teeth, annoyed that she had to run away as well since she was now outnumbered thanks to her peers leaving.
She was right that Phillip was sending them all to die since there wasn’t enough holy weapons or water for all of them to use. They had managed to injure a few of the guards, but there were still plenty of guards coming.
’That bastard,’ Cassandra thought as she ran away.
Phillip had seriously underestimated how many guards Xavier had to protect his home.
Had no one been spying on the Blackthorn estate to know what they were going to be up against?
Cassandra caught up to her peers, who fled and ran past them. She didn’t know what had happened to her after Phillip drew the mark on her hand since she had woken up feeling fine at first, but there was something off.
Cassandra looked back to see how many of her friends were alive. They didn’t deserve this, but this should open their eyes to what she felt about Phillip.
Phillip didn’t care about them. He sent them here to die after claiming they would be protected by some kind of power.
Cassandra should have known the group Phillip sent her with wouldn’t survive, but in that moment, she couldn’t argue with him. She was willing to speak out about it, but her body was reluctant.
It felt like she had lost a little bit of control of herself.
’No,’ Cassandra panicked.
The screams of her peers filled her ears as the guards continued to chase them even after they were off the estate.
Cassandra looked back once more, seeing that there were only five of them left from a group of fifty. She wanted to go back to help everyone since she cared for them, but knowing she would not succeed, Cassandra kept on running.
All she needed to be was faster than the ones behind her, and at some point, she hoped the guards would retreat to go back protecting the estate, since she was of no danger to them if she was running away.
"Cassandra!"
Cassandra ignored the calls of her friends who needed help. They needed to forgive her for this. Someone needed to survive to get to Phillip to kill him for everything he did tonight.
Cassandra was puzzled when she didn’t hear anyone following her anymore, and upon looking back again, she saw that all her friends were dead and the guards had stopped following her.
She was relieved for a moment until her feet suddenly stopped moving, and she stood still.
"What is happening?" Cassandra wondered, her eyes darting around as she panicked even more. What was happening to her?
"I see why you were flying back so fast," Orlork said, his feet settling on the ground. He fixed his shirt so he wouldn’t have a messy appearance. "Another demon?"
"Yes," Xavier replied.
Xavier flew from the palace straight to the estate since he was worried about Selene’s safety. It was the fattest he had ever flown, and it was needed since he had little intruders near his land.
"What’s happening to me?" Cassandra asked, more afraid of why she couldn’t move than the sight of Xavier Blackthorn standing before her.
Cassandra already felt like she had lost a piece of herself, and now, someone else was taking away all of her control.
"Return to the estate and inform my wife that I will be there shortly," Xavier instructed the guards. "Send someone for Isaac as well."
Cassandra desperately needed someone to answer her question. What were they doing to her?
Xavier looked at Cassandra, noticing the same presence of a demon attached to her. It wasn’t as strong as the one attached to the priest he killed, which meant this demon was not with Cassandra for too long.
"How many more of you are there? The ones who had demons attached to them," said Xavier.
He would like it not to be many, so he didn’t need to search for too long.
Cassandra closed her eyes. It was hard to think when she was panicking. If he could just let her move a little.
"Why is her face like that?" Orlork asked, intrigued by what the little human was experiencing.
"It’s called panicking. It’s what you make other people experience. Be quick with this," Xavier said, handing Orlork a holy weapon as he walked toward Cassandra with another.
Xavier didn’t have time for pointless chatter. All he needed was a number.
"I don’t know," Cassandra answered, opening her eyes to see Xavier coming toward her with a weapon in his hands.
"What a shame," Xavier said, stabbing Cassandra.
She was the final piece Xavier needed to help Selene move on and be more comfortable. There was never a chance for Cassandra to survive if Xavier ever came across her.
Cassandra was better off getting far out of town and never showing her face again if she wanted to survive. Coming to the estate with so few humans by her side was a foolish plan.
"Until that demon has full control of you, they are useless at protecting you and giving you enough power against a pureblood. That priest you follow seemed to be the closest one to turning to a demon," said Xavier.
Xavier allowed Cassandra to regain control of her body since she was going to die, and very fast since the connection she had with the demon was very weak.
Judging from her expression, Cassandra also didn’t believe she was a demon. Was she in denial, or was she not told what evil she was messing with? fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
Whatever it was, Xavier didn’t care. All that mattered to him was having one more person off his list. This was good news to share with Selene to lift her spirits.
Xavier pulled the dagger out of Cassandra, watching as she collapsed before him.
"Are you going to leave her like this? Xavier," Orlork called, taking to the sky as Xavier left him without a word.
Orlork wished Xavier would share his plans instead of abruptly leaving, but since he knew that Xavier was in a rush to see Selene, he would let it go for now.
