Chapter 284: Helping hand (1)

"I am not staying here. I am the queen," Vivienne reminded Darius.

He could not just rid her of her title like this.

"You are the queen until I find another to replace you, which shouldn’t take long. Getting your father on my side was a bit of a struggle, but I am willing to give him what he wants. Your father doesn’t like how rebellious you have become," Darius said.

Darius wasn’t the only one who wasn’t happy to hear Vivienne wanted other men by her side. It was the first time he held a conversation with Victor where they wanted the same thing.

"Your father isn’t going to come to get you, and I’ve struck a deal with him not to tell the others of your state for now. Your father will be awarded a good position in the court for now," Darius shared.

Darius wasn’t planning to keep his deal with Victor for long since a member of Vivienne’s family was eyeing the throne. He couldn’t trust anyone.

"I am not staying here," Vivienne said, walking toward the door, only to be grabbed by Darius. Vivienne slapped Darius, no longer holding back. "Don’t put your hands on me."

Darius and Victor working together to keep her locked away surprised Vivienne, but it did not stop her from continuing her plans. She was not afraid of these two men, and what Darius shared added Victor to the list of people Vivienne wanted dead.

Darius took the slap without issue and held onto Vivienne. "You’re still the queen for now, as you said. You should carry yourself a certain way. I know that you are angry, but whose fault is this? How did you get to this point? Think about that while you are here."

"You are having a child with someone I considered to be a friend, and you think I need time to think over my actions? You have bedded every woman who caught your eye in the palace and smiled in my face. Yet I am the one who is in the wrong?" Vivienne asked, wanting to stab Darius instead of slap him.

Vivienne laughed, but there wasn’t any warmth to it. "You only wanted me because you thought Xavier wanted me. You never loved me, but I tried to love you. You showed me a good side at first, but from the moment we wed, you showed your real face."

"You misunderstand me, Vivienne. I did love you, but I don’t love-"

"How could you love someone and play in their face with many women? Do you think because you sometimes hid and bedded them in closed rooms where I couldn’t see, I should appreciate it?" Vivienne asked.

Darius’s mind was odd to think she should be grateful.

"Whenever you were missing, I guessed that you were with a woman, and I was always right. You would smile like it was funny. Like you were hoping I would find you. Now that I am doing what you have done for years, you want to lock me away," Vivienne said, her laughter increasing.

Vivienne raked her fingers through her hair as she walked away. Darius was going to make her lose her mind.

It was a miracle she had not long lost it.

"Go," Vivienne ordered Darius. "I don’t want to see your face."

Vivienne wasn’t concerned about the guard boarding up the windows or standing watch, so she couldn’t leave.

Darius always forgot one little important thing, which was that she was also part of the five families. It didn’t matter what her father told Darius. Vivienne always kept Xavier’s advice to keep all her talents hidden.

"Don’t try to leave, Vivienne. You’re going to embarrass yourself more than you already have. Now, if you would excuse me. I have a show to watch," Darius said, done with their talk.

It was finally the day he would start dragging humans out of their homes and take them to the cages he built. A good change was upon the town. One that no other pureblood could do but him.

"That child Natalie is carrying. It will never see the light of day," Vivienne shared before Darius could step out of the room.

Darius turned around and gave Vivienne a deadly stare. "What?"

"You didn’t think I would let her have a child with my husband, did you? My daughter isn’t going to have some bastard for a sibling. You should have known I wouldn’t allow it. Oh," Vivienne smiled, realising something.

Vivienne decided to keep it to herself for now.

"I have some loyal followers here in the palace. I was smart enough to task them with killing Natalie should they not see me around. I’m glad I did," Vivienne said, going to the bed to take a seat.

Darius liked this side of Vivienne, but he wasn’t concerned about her threats. "You can’t kill Natalie."

"I can with the holy weapons here in the palace. While you were busy sleeping around, I had time to find them and pass one off to someone else. Careful," Vivienne said as Darius started to walk toward her. "Harm me, and the child dies sooner. Are you willing to risk it?"

"You’ve pushed me a little bit too far, Darius. I don’t think my daughter would be safe in your hands, so I just might take her with that unborn child. Don’t look at me like that," Vivienne said, standing up. "I never wanted to have a child with you."

"You’re crazy," Darius said, leaving the room instead of arguing with Vivienne. He had something more important than standing around speaking to Vivienne. "Go to the weaponry and count how many holy weapons there are. If one is missing, find me," he ordered a guard.

Darius walked away from Vivienne’s new room and headed for the front gates. He wanted a clear view of when the humans would be taken and enjoy a chase to drink blood as he liked.

There was too much fun awaiting him to be concerned about what Vivienne had planned.

As long as Natalie stayed where he placed her, she would remain safe.

"You’ve returned," Darius said, walking toward Michael. "Have you come to apologise?"

"No. I’ve come to tell you that there is still time for you to stop what you are planning to do now. There is time for you to be smart. You will trigger another war if you start gathering humans. No one wants a war," said Michael.

Darius walked past Michael, ignoring his advice. "There won’t be a war since I will gather all of their kind. Even the ones who were so foolish as to attack us."
