Chapter 283: Changing the town (2)

Cassandra was relieved she didn’t feel strange after Phillip drew the mark on her hand, but she didn’t like that he had placed something she knew nothing about on her hand.

Phillip released Cassandra’s hand, no longer concerned about her running away. She would now be loyal to him forever.

Cassandra rubbed her hand, trying to soothe the spot where Phillip had gripped her. Something was off about this, but she couldn’t place what it was.

Phillip was smiling, and the others just stared as if they were waiting for Phillip’s next order.

"What now?" Cassandra asked, needing someone to speak to kill the nervousness she felt.

How was she going to have power like Phillip did? Was she no longer normal?

"You will rest here for a moment with the others, and I will make sure you are not disturbed until it is time for us to go after the purebloods. When it happens, do not fight it," Phillip said, stepping away from the fire so it would start.

Cassandra still didn’t understand what was happening. She had gotten to this part, but still, Phillip was keeping her in the dark. What was going to happen next?

Cassandra wanted to follow Phillip, but her body wouldn’t move. She was confused at first, but then realised it must have something to do with the mark Phillip drew.

Cassandra frantically tried rubbing off the mark so she would be free, but it would not go away. It was not as easy to take off the mark as it was for Phillip to draw it on.

"Why can’t it come off?" Cassandra panicked, looking around to see if the others were doing the same.

Unfortunately, the others stood still, waiting for the power Phillip spoke of.

Cassandra’s fear grew as she started to hear Phillip chant something she could not make out.

It no longer felt like they were on holy ground with what was happening here. Philip truly was a monster, like Cassandra thought, and the others were blindly following them, or so she thought.

Cassandra locked eyes with Andre, who seemed concerned, but he wasn’t trying to fight what was being done.

Cassandra screamed, gripping her right hand, which started to burn. It felt like the mark was burning its way through her skin so she would never be able to get rid of it.

Phillip stood off to the side, smiling as he watched them be born anew. He had been through this before, so he knew how painful it would be. It was scary at first, but once the hard part was over, they would feel far more powerful.

Phillip could still remember the day he heard the whispers of a God leading him to where all his answers were. That day changed his life, and he would never forget it.

Phillip decided to leave since he had plenty of work to do before the war fell on the kingdom. There would be many deaths during the war, thus there would be many humans who needed to be prayed for.

To avoid so many deaths on his side, Phillip needed to give more power to his people. He needed to turn as many of them as he could, giving them the same power he had handed to Cassandra and the others.

"I will not fail you," Phillip promised the little voice in his head.

The God which could not show itself had been by his side for years, pushing him on. They spoke of a future where vampires were not present in this town and humans would rule.

That future was near.

All Phillip needed to do was be kind and pass on the power given to him to the others.

Phillip returned to his room to collect the holy weapon he kept to himself. In time, Phillip planned to share that he had purposely gotten rid of the last bit of holy water the church had.

They had no use for holy water now that they had the power Phillip found.

"Soon," Phillip promised.

It was nearing the hour of change for the kingdom.

...

Inside the palace, Vivienne paced back and forth in her room.

The first man to be at her side was chosen. It was the son of a man from the court whom Vivienne hoped to use. Vivienne had another man in mind, but Darius was making it hard for her to have another at her side.

From threats of imprisonment or stripping the men of their wealth, Darius did all he could to send men away from Vivienne.

Vivienne tried to think of how she would get around Darius. Her father seemed like the best person to help her, but Vivienne knew well Victor would only speak about her having another child.

"Where is it?" Vivienne wondered, trying to remember where the weapons were locked away.

Vivienne had heard of where they were kept before, but now her mind was blank, and she could not go around asking about the weapons to draw Darius’s attention to them.

Vivienne bit her nails.

Word of Natalie’s unborn child was getting out, so Vivienne was certain the town was now laughing at her. She needed Darius to die soon so she would be free of him, but it was taking so long to get her hands on the weapons.

"Xavier would know," Vivienne said.

It was sad to think of how the one person who could help her wanted nothing to do with her right now.

Vivienne thought back to the last time she saw Xavier. He could have killed Darius that time, and she would be free of him.

’Would he help me if I told him my plans?’ Vivienne wondered.

Vivienne had her issues with Selene, but she did nothing to Xavier for him to hate her so much. They both wanted Darius dead, so now was the best time to team up before Darius went through with his plans.

"I must write to him," Vivienne said, deciding to reach out to Xavier.

Vivienne knew it was very likely Xavier would ignore her, but she had to try. Killing Darius might be the one thing to make Xavier respond to her.

As Vivienne walked to her table, the doors opened.

Darius entered the room, searching for any man Vivenne would have tried to sneak in.

"What are you doing here? Don’t you have someone to look after? I’m sure Natalie wishes you were at her side," Vivienne said, annoyed by the sight of Darius. "I don’t need your company."

"And I don’t need your company. You have disrespected me by ignoring what I said and claiming another man as your lover. You will never be the same woman you were when we first wed. I understand why it never upset him that I took you," said Darius.

Darius took one long good look at the room he would have no need to visit from this day onward.

"You are useless to me. With a new era upon this kingdom, I will need a new queen. You should feel good knowing that queen will not be Natalie. I shall marry another from one of the other families. Since I enjoyed some of our time together, I will be kind to you," Darius said, making way for the guards to enter.

"I don’t want you as my queen, but I find it hard to let you go. The only answer was to keep you here where you shall be alone, not disturbed by anyone. Your father wants nothing more than for you to be in the palace, and I will allow it."

"You are not to set foot outside this room," Darius said, informing Vivienne of his recent order as the guards boarded up the windows.

"You cannot-"

"I can. Your father is tired of you rebelling, so he will not come to you. Guards will be nearby every day to stop you from escaping. I might be even more kind to send you a lover of my choice to keep you company. Enjoy your time here,’ Darius said, wishing Vivienne well.

The quietness of the room should help her think of what she did wrong.
