Chapter 251: Gabriel’s mistake (1)

"Lord Blackthorn, there is a visitor at the gates requesting to speak with Lady Blackthorn, but I think you should go to the gates," said Harold.

Harold didn’t want to interfere, but he knew it wasn’t a good idea for Selene to speak to her former husband. No good would come of it, and after Selene’s good dinner with the Blackthorns, Harold didn’t want to ruin today for her.

Xavier was uninterested in speaking to a visitor. "Who is it? Is it Eugene again?"

"No, it is Gabriel Valor," Harold replied.

Xavier smiled.

What had he done to get such a good morning?

"Harold, if I go out there, I’m going to kill him. He was placed as the captain of the guards. Now his head has grown so big he thinks he can come to see my wife. Send him off," Xavier ordered Harold.

While Xavier wanted nothing more than to kill Gabriel, his death would reach Selene’s ears, which Xavier didn’t want her to be bothered with.

"The guards said that he seemed to be injured. I don’t think he came here as a guard but rather seeking out the lady for help," Harold said, hoping Xavier would reconsider.

Xavier sighed. He knew there would come a time when Gabriel would return to bother Selene.

It was only a matter of time before Gabriel would regret everything he had done up to now. Gabriel was the kind of fool to believe Selene would go crawling back to him.

"Don’t let it reach Selene that he is at the gates. I will go," Xavier said, deciding to entertain Gabriel.

"Should I get your sword?"

"No. If I kill him, it’s going to be with my bare hands," Xavier answered as he walked toward the front door.

Xavier prepared himself for a headache. No conversation he had with Gabriel had ever been sensible.

Xavier walked out the front door to the gates, where Gabriel wasn’t pleased to see him, and Xavier shared the same feelings.

Gabriel looked up at the front doors to see if Selene was there to watch, but it was too far for him to tell if she was there. "I didn’t come for you," he said.

"It worries me that you think you could just come here and speak to her as you like. Selene doesn’t want to see you, and quite frankly, I don’t think you two need to speak. I was present to hear how you felt about her and witness how badly you treated her," Xavier said, reminding Gabriel of his actions.

"This is between me and my wife," Gabriel said, annoyed he had to speak with Xavier. "Know your place and stay out of this."

Xavier chuckled. He had the thought of keeping Gabriel alive so he could be entertained by Gabriel’s stupidity.

"Your wife? I thought she was now married to me and you had the little deceiver," said Xavier.

Gabriel gripped the reins of his horse. How much did Xavier know about Cassandra?

"You can’t control Selene. She will want to speak to me. Nothing can change that we were once married. We have a special relationship that you have no part of. Tell her that I am here," Gabriel said, wanting to get what he came for over with.

Gabriel’s right hand was on his chest as the pain persisted. He could die at any moment, so he had to speak to Selene now, but Xavier was getting in the way of it. Selene might have the heart to find a way to help him, but Xavier would certainly like to see him bleed out right here.

Xavier noticed Gabriel wincing and his hand on his chest. If Gabriel was hurt, then Selene wasn’t coming out here to accidentally heal Gabriel.

Whatever Gabriel was suffering from, he had to deal with it by himself.

Still, Xavier was curious what Gabriel was injured with that he was in so much pain.

Had Cassandra finally snapped and tried to kill him?

Xavier motioned for his guards to open the gates. "She isn’t coming out here. Since you have forgotten, I am her husband now. You don’t get to demand that she come out to meet with you. You’ve lost the right to speak to her."

"This doesn’t have anything to do with you!" Gabriel yelled.

It was only Selene whom he would apologise to for the things he did wrong in the past. Xavier was just a little pest getting in the way of that.

Even now, Gabriel didn’t think Selene and Xavier were a good match for each other. They were too different, and a man like Xavier was only going to taint Selene.

Xavier wasn’t interested in talking anymore since Gabriel didn’t like to listen. He started to walk out of the gates toward Gabriel who guided his horse away from the gates.

"I am not here to fight with you. I have only come to speak with Selene, and since the matter is urgent, I cannot wait much longer. She is my ex-wife," Gabriel said, annoyed that Xavier had tried to dismiss this fact.

The closer Xavier got, the more Gabriel guided his horse away from the gates.

As the captain of the town guards, Gabriel knew Xavier would have to be foolish to try to harm him here. An attack now would give Gabriel every right to capture Xavier and take him to be locked away.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t a fight Gabriel could take on now. Not with the wound which wasn’t healing. On any other day, Gabriel knew he could take on Xavier even though he was a pureblood.

Xavier continued to walk toward Gabriel. The fact that Gabriel was nowhere on his land wasn’t a concern. Getting Gabriel into his dungeon was all he thought of now.

Gabriel would make a good friend for Morgana.

"Lord Blackthorn!" Gabriel yelled, frustrated that Xavier wasn’t listening.

Gabriel hated it even more that he was injured. He also hated that Xavier wasn’t responding to him.

Gabriel looked up at the estate once again. All he wanted was to see Selene come out to him for them to have a proper conversation without Xavier getting in the way.

Gabriel tore his eyes away from the estate after his horse was spooked and panicked when he realised Xavier was coming his way. This time, he wasn’t fortunate enough to put more space between himself and Xavier.

Xavier grabbed Gabriel by his shirt and pulled him down off the horse, which was already close to throwing him off after being spooked.

Xavier’s guards were right at his side to hold Gabriel down. "You’ve managed to surprise me by how foolish you are. You came here alone and injured, demanding to speak to my wife. Did you think I would just send you off?"
