Chapter 33: Did I Really Fall In Love With You, Abigail Snow?

"Can you both stop talking!?" Sawyer’s voice echoed enough to silence Ethan and Ronan.

Instantly, Ethan and Ronan looked at their boss again, waiting for him to say something.

"Don’t be silly! I’m not in love with Miss Abigail. I’m just curious about her. And her life’s story makes any decent man want to protect her, including me." Sawyer casually explained, but Ronan and Ethan were overjoyed to hear their boss’s love confession.

’Damn! Boss Sawyer, how could he not yet realize that he has feelings for Miss Abigail?’ Ronan thought while stifling a laugh.

’Boss! That’s love, all right!’ Ethan also couldn’t help but vent his frustration when he saw how clueless Sawyer was now.

They both tried to hold themselves back from interrupting Sawyer, silently waiting for him to continue speaking.

Sawyer crossed his arms and leaned against his chair, his eyes fixed on both of his most trusted men.

"What happened between Abigail and me is love? Well, I don’t know, and I don’t care. But whatever it is, it is none of your business, and I wish both of you to make sure no one knows about it." His commanding tone caused Ethan and Ronan to nod hurriedly.

"Yes, sir."

"No worries, sir. Your wish is our command. No one will know about it," Ethan added playfully, making a V sign with his fingers. A smile appeared on his lips, but it quickly faded when Sawyer spoke to him icily.

"For God’s sake, Ethan! Grow up and stop playing Cupid. She might think I’m a stalker if you do something like this again. From now on, you must discuss anything related to her with me and do not take any initiative related to her unless you have my clear approval!"

Ethan hurriedly nodded, agreeing with what he was asked. Still, later, something crossed his mind, "Sir, if I may ask. Seriously, sir, did Miss Abigail call you a stalker?" he asked.

"She didn’t. Well, not directly, but I could feel it from how she looked at me. Her suspicion of me was visible in her gaze."

"Okay...Okay... No worries, sir. I won’t do anything again before discussing it with you," Ethan promised. He had already created an opportunity for his boss; now, he could only pray his boss would be dating Abigail.

Sawyer said nothing but dismissed them before disconnecting the FaceTime call. He didn’t rush to leave his seat; instead, his gaze fell on the house rental contract that Brody had returned to him.

A foolish smile slowly appeared on his lips as he touched Abigail’s name on the paper.

"Did I REALLY fall in love with you, Abigail Snow?" Sawyer asked himself, feeling confused. "Do I? Seriously?"

***

Abigail intentionally went to the café earlier than usual. She had no other option but to meet Lana and discuss her financial problems.

She felt more at ease owing money to Lana than to Ryland because Lana could deduct the amount from her paycheck to pay off the debt.

If Lana agreed to lend her $10,000, she would promptly return the money to Ryland. Being indebted to Ryland felt torturous to her.

Abigail refused to let Ryland use her grandmother’s situation to manipulate her into returning to work at his company, Urbangrid Innovation.

She wouldn’t allow that!

As Abigail opened the door, the bright, hot sun stopped her from leaving the house. Sighing deeply, she returned to her bedroom to search for a baseball cap.

Before long, she left the house and rushed down the stairs. However, her cell phone buzzed when she arrived at the ground.

While walking to the stone path, she took her cell phone from her backpack.

Instantly, her steps halted when she saw the text message sender. Her calm heart started stirring in anger again.

’Oh my goodness! Why did this man shamelessly contact me again?’ Abigail couldn’t help but curse Ryland in her mind while typing her reply.

"Ryland Wood, you are so shameless. How could you use my grandmother to force me to come to the meeting? Why did you pay the hospital fee? I didn’t ask you to do it. I won’t accept anything from you. No worries, I will return the money today!"

After she sent the scolding text to Ryland, she tossed her cell phone into her backpack and continued to walk along the stone path to the gate.

But just a few steps away, her cell phone vibrated again. This time, she knew it wasn’t a text message but a phone call.

’Damn it! Ryland Wood, you are courting death to challenge my patience!’ She vented her frustration while taking out her cell phone.

Abigail couldn’t stand hearing his voice, yet she had no choice but to pick up the phone to tell him she would not be indebted to him.

"What do you want? Have you lost your ability to read? Don’t you understand the text message I sent you?" Abigail snapped; she couldn’t hold her anger toward this man.

"Abigail, your wrinkles will be more obvious if you keep getting angry like that," Ryland’s playful voice could be heard from the other end, clearly making Abigail even more furious.

"Ryland, listen. I won’t come to the meeting, and I don’t care if you paid the money for me. Give me your bank account. I will transfer the money back to you!" Abigail ignored him and stated her position.

A chuckle could be heard from the other end before Ryland spoke, "I never thought you were this stubborn, Abigail. The Abigail I know was easy to talk to. Not like this. Can you briefly forget your anger toward me and use your brain to think? Be logical for once."

Abigail gritted her teeth. She also never knew she could change this much. All this time, she had been an amiable and patient person.

However, since she felt betrayed by the person she loved and trusted, her fierce and firm attitude slowly emerged from within her as if her heart wanted to protect her wounded self.
