Chapter 254: Harvey Jones Arrival

The conversation continued as Nathaniel and Martha arrived. Meanwhile, Walter and Hannah excused themselves to get ready.

Abigail no longer felt awkward talking with Angela. She thought Angela was mature and wise. After just a few minutes of conversation, she felt a strong chemistry with her.

They started by discussing their hobbies, current fashion trends, and food. Eventually, the conversation shifted to Angela’s newly developed skincare business. Meanwhile, Abigail shared details about her architecture and design company, Camellia Modern Design.

Sawyer, sitting next to Abigail, was not interested in their conversation.

Instead, he occupied himself by scrolling through his cell phone, reading updates from Ethan and Ronan about what was happening outside.

He noted that the Jones Group was struggling because the Silverstone Group was beginning to dominate every industry, eat up its market share, and ruin its business.

To make matters worse, the J Group’s giant oil mining project was suddenly stalled due to government intervention after the company was accused of bribing government officials to obtain the Environmental Impact Assessment. As a result, the company may have lost a million-dollar investment in the project.

The stock price of the J Group and its subsidiaries had been declining daily, and negative gossip about the company frequently surfaced in the media.

Foreign investors and large corporations were losing trust in the J Group. And one by one, foreign companies were ending their partnerships with the J Group.

Things took a turn for the worse when news about J Group CEO Harvey Jones surfaced online; the report detailed how he was seen having wild parties and engaging in bribery.

Knowing all of this made Sawyer happy. He couldn’t wait to see how his brother explained things to their father and Grandpa, and the thought of Harvey getting scolded made him even happier.

While Sawyer happily thought about Harvey getting his punishment, suddenly, Angela’s voice distracted him. "Oh yeah, Sawyer, you said Andy Bennett is your best friend, right?" she asked.

Sawyer stopped looking at his cell phone and turned his gaze toward her. "Yes! Why did you ask again?" he responded with a frown. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

He clearly remembered warning her not to reveal it to anyone else. Still, now she asked again, which made him worry his grandparents in the corner could hear.

Abigail, who heard them, looked at Angela as well. She was curious. How did Angela know about it?

"You know I have a partnership with his company, don’t you?" Angela asked.

"No, I don’t know anything about his business. I already told you, I’m just friends with him..." Sawyer quickly denied it. The lines on his forehead deepened, but when he noticed Abigail stifling her laughter, he silently tried to compose himself.

"Little bro, I remember. I just want to tell you that I signed a corporate agreement with Silverstone Group..." Angela explained in detail to Sawyer her partnership with Andy Bennett.

Sawyer took a deep breath and asked quietly, "And why did you tell me this?"

"Strangely, a few days ago, he forbade me from working with..." Angela glanced at Abigail, reluctant to talk about it, worried she would be jealous.

When Angela saw her talking with Grandma and Grandpa, she moved to Sawyer’s other side.

"Andy Bennett asked me to stop working with Serena Philips. This is strange because I read a lot of negative news about her a few days ago. What’s going on with her? Why are all the big companies suddenly attacking her? Do you know anything about this?" She asked quietly but loud enough for Sawyer to hear her.

"Sister, you’re asking the wrong person. When have I been interested in the business world? And please don’t say her name in front of me. I have no connection with her, and I’m also worried that my wife will get upset if she hears it..." Sawyer replied coldly.

"I’m sorry, little brother. I feel weird—" Angela’s sentence trailed off as Harvey’s voice came from the door. Suddenly, everyone, including Abigail, turned their heads.

"I’m sorry, Grandpa and Grandma if I’m late to this dinner party. My office is busy, and this dinner is wasting my time!" Harvey said irritably as he approached Nathaniel and Martha, ignoring the others, including Sawyer and Abigail.

Sawyer turned to Abigail beside him and noticed the worry in her eyes. He took her hand and squeezed it gently. "Don’t mind him..." he tried to reassure her.

Abigail didn’t say anything but smiled at Sawyer, making an effort to ignore Harvey.

"Where’s the birthday person? I need to greet her before heading back to my office. I can’t stay for dinner now; I’m overwhelmed with many tasks..." Harvey stated calmly, yet his arrogant remark startled Abigail even more.

’How terrible this man’s attitude is. No wonder Sawyer never returned to this house or attended any family gatherings...’ Abigail silently scolded Harvey in her mind.

Not only was Abigail shocked, but Nathaniel was too. He knew Harvey despised his stepmother, but he never expressed this hatred openly or in front of him.

Hurriedly, Nathaniel glanced at Sawyer and Abigail to gauge their reactions. Noticing how calm Sawyer was now, he seemed unaffected by his brother’s words, which eased his mind. However, seeing Abigail’s scared and confused expression worried him.

Nathaniel clenched his fist and snapped, "Harvey, where are your manners? Come sit down!" His icy tone stunned Harvey.

However, Harvey ignored his grandfather. He was already stressed enough with his company, but his father forced him to attend this useless dinner.

"Grandpa, but—" Harvey paused, his gaze locked on Sawyer. A smirk appeared on his lips as he said, "You finally show up, little bro. You’re so shameless! Really, shameless! You only decided to come on your beloved mommy’s birthday. How dare you make me busy a few months ago, ignoring Grandpa’s birthday!?"

"Harvey Jones! Manners..." Nathaniel shouted. He clenched his teeth, glaring at Harvey.

"Grandpa, why are you so biased toward Sawyer? What the hell—" Once again, Harvey’s words trailed off when he saw a woman sitting beside his brother. And when his eyes stared at their intertwined hands, his frown became obvious.
