Chapter 226: Malicious Intent!

"I just found out I was pregnant a few months after I moved out of town. When I planned to find you in the capital to share this news, I read in the newspaper that you had died—"

"What? News about my death?" James asked, puzzled.

His confusion began to fade as he remembered the incident. His adopted brother had died, but he never knew his parents had published an announcement about it in the newspaper.

"That’s why I’m confused. How could you come back to life?" Sophie replied.

"I’m sorry; I never mentioned that I have an adopted brother. That’s not me who died. He passed away a few months after you left. I was too busy searching for you to notice that my mother had announced it in the newspaper. Are you sure the name mentioned was mine?" he asked, still confused.

Sophie paused for a moment, then shook her head. "I can’t remember exactly, but I recall the article saying, ’Son of Jackson Philips...’"

"I believe that was my mother’s trick to make you think I was dead!" James sighed deeply. "I apologize for not mentioning my adopted brother, Sophie. If you had known the truth, you might not have assumed it was me."

"Well, if your mother wanted me to read that news, she succeeded. Since that day, I have buried your memory in my heart. I never spoke about you to anyone—not even our late daughter or Abby. I didn’t want them to face any trouble if I ever mentioned the Philips family."

"Alright, now everything is clear! Let’s register our marriage. I don’t want to lose you again, Sophie Lewis!"

Sophie was utterly stunned.

"Married..."

While Sophie and James were talking, Abigail silently followed Sawyer as he walked toward the front area, heading to the parking lot.

However, Sawyer noticed how distraught she was before they emerged from the building. He halted his steps, surprising Abigail, who also abruptly stopped.

"Huh? Why did you stop? Didn’t you say you have a surprise gift for me in the parking lot?" She looked up to meet his gaze, confused. "Did you buy me a car? Please, no!"

Sawyer stifled a laugh, admiring her adorable expression. He took her hand and said, "Your surprise present can wait. We need to sit down and talk about something."

He led her to the seating area in the Nursing House lobby. The place was empty; there were no other guests, just the two of them.

After they settled on the couch side by side, he asked, "My little wife, I can see you’re stressed right now. Who dares to stress my wife like this?"

When Sawyer noticed Abigail’s eyes widening slightly, he became even more confident that something was troubling her.

"That damn Adam Snow threatened my grandma..." Abigail’s hands clenched into tight fists as she recounted everything her grandmother had told her earlier.

Sawyer gritted his teeth in annoyance. "How dare he?"

Even though Adam Snow was his father-in-law, Sawyer wouldn’t remain silent if the man had malicious intentions toward Abigail and her grandmother. He was determined to ensure that Adam faced the consequences soon.

"I know, right? How dare he threaten Grandma like that? He even said his people are ready in this area to take her away..." Abigail couldn’t help but curse her father inwardly. She had already planned to call Adam Snow later to confront him.

After thinking for a moment, Sawyer finally asked again, "What does he want from you?"

"I don’t really know," Abigail replied. "But the last time he contacted me, he mentioned my mother’s inheritance."

She paused to calm her angry heart. "I thought I told you before? My father claims my mother has property and wants to transfer it to me. Directly. But I don’t believe him. I suspect it’s just another of his tricks to lure me back home."

Hearing Abigail’s explanation, Sawyer frowned and tried recalling the details. He remembered her mentioning that her father insisted she return to their house. Still, he didn’t recall discussing her mother’s property.

"You did the right thing, Abby. You shouldn’t have to deal with Adam Snow anymore. I can guess there’s a malicious intent behind his plan to meet you..."

Sawyer could no longer tolerate Adam Snow, especially knowing he had sent a few people to do something to Grandma Sophie.

He gently patted Abigail’s hands before continuing, "There’s no need to be nervous, my wife. I’ll ensure that those people won’t get the chance to harm Grandma or you. I will also have someone check on your mother’s property."

"Thank you, Sawyer..." Abigail said, feeling relieved.

"I’m your husband. It’s my duty to protect my little wife," he said, leaning closer and gently kissing her lips.

Abigail shyly pushed him away, glancing around the room. She glared at him when she noticed a few nurses at the front desk giggling and watching them. Among them was Aunty Rosa, who was waving happily at her.

"Ugh, Sawyer, I want to know about my surprise present now..." Abigail tried to distract him from kissing her again.

Sawyer stifled a laugh, picturing his grandparents as a surprise gift for Abigail. "You’ll see it later, but I must tell you something first." His expression turned serious.

Though confused, Abigail nodded. "What is it?"

"Let’s bring Grandma out of this place. I’ll arrange for her to stay at our beach house. If you’re worried about her health, the distance between the house and this hospital isn’t too far. If she needs medical assistance, we can have someone visit the beach house or drive her to the hospital. How does that sound?"

Abigail agreed. She had also considered taking her grandmother out of the Nursing House after knowing that Adam Snow was using his grandmother to control her.

"That’s a great idea, Sawyer. I will ask Aunty Rosa to arrange for Grandma to leave this place..." Abigail stood up from her seat, leaving Sawyer smiling happily as he watched her.

After seeing Abigail talk to the nurse, Sawyer called his people at the beach house to prepare a room for Grandma Sophie and her grandparents. He believed they would insist on staying at his villa.
