Betrayed by Fiance, Embraced by Hidden Tycoon-Chapter 195: Serena, Forget Him!
Chapter 195: Serena, Forget Him!
James had appointed David to direct and manage the company for the past ten years. Since then, the company’s performance has declined with no improvement.
This was not solely due to external factors, like new competitors, but also because David had not managed the company effectively. Even with Serena’s help as the brand ambassador, sales had only increased insignificantly.
James was disappointed in his son but no longer wanted to be involved in the business, so he ignored the situation and hoped for the best. He did not respond to his son’s vent but looked at Serena.
"You know there’s nothing you can do about Sawyer, right?" James asked. He already told her to let go of Sawyer, but Serena didn’t seem to be over him yet.
Serena’s hands clenched tightly in anger at her grandfather’s words. She couldn’t refute his statement because she knew he was right.
"Father, can you not put Rena in a corner? She returned to this country to help the company and gave up many contracts abroad. She is willing to marry Sawyer. That’s a huge help for us..." David started getting annoyed with his father, who appeared reluctant to support the company.
"Dad, please don’t be mad at Grandpa," Serena intervened to stop her father from saying something harsh, worrying that her grandpa would be offended and angry.
She felt bad about coming here to see her grandfather so early to discuss her arranged marriage with Sawyer because she knew her grandfather would refuse to help them. Still, her father ignored her opinion and forced her to come.
After hearing David’s words, James tried to suppress his anger. He stared sharply at him for a few more seconds before saying, "You need to drop your plan to marry Serena to Sawyer because he will marry the girl he loves."
James’ statement shocked them all.
Serena couldn’t believe her grandfather’s words.
"Grandpa, Sawyer could not possibly marry that quickly..." Her sentence abruptly halted as she noticed the look of pity in her grandfather’s eyes.
’Seriously? Sawyer married? To Abigail Snow? No way! That girl isn’t from a wealthy family like ours. How could Sawyer’s parents possibly approve of her?’ A flood of questions filled her mind, compelling her to immediately contact a detective to investigate the truth. freewebnoveℓ.com
"Serena, you are beautiful, talented, wealthy, and kind...forget Sawyer, huh!? There are plenty of other fish on the sea. With your quality, I know a good man will want you as his wife sooner than later." James’s voice softened as he saw tears welling in his granddaughter’s eyes.
James felt sorry for Serena but couldn’t force Sawyer to marry her when Sawyer was deeply in love with Abigail. He doesn’t want to do it, and even if he forced himself to do it, he could foresee that Sawyer would reject his request profusely!
"Grandpa, it’s impossible. Sawyer’s parents would never agree to Abigail Snow! She’s just a barista, and her family is a mess..." Serena gritted her teeth, trying to hold back her emotions.
James was surprised to learn that Serena knew about Abigail’s background. Now, he worried that his granddaughter would investigate Abigail and eventually uncover the truth about Sophie.
"Serena Philips! You don’t stand a chance with Sawyer. You need to let go of that thought!" James retorted.
Serena clenched her hands tightly in her lap as she processed her grandfather’s words.
A few moments later, she could no longer contain the emotions she had held inside.
"Grandpa, why did you scold me? I’m your only granddaughter; you should support me. Please stop Sawyer’s wedding to that woman. I know she must be trapping him because she knows he comes from the Jones family..."
James Philips was utterly shocked to hear Serena describe Abigail in such a negative light. He tried to suppress his anger, not wanting to reveal the truth to them—not today.
"Tsk! Tsk! That woman must be a gold digger! She just wants to rob Sawyer’s wealth," David added, triggering James’ anger.
Serena nods, agreeing with her father, "Dad, I met that woman once, and I’m sure she is after Sawyer’s money."
After calming himself, James said, "I will not repeat my words after this: forget Sawyer! Why do you insist on marrying him when he no longer feels for you?"
Serena gritted her teeth, opening her mouth several times, but no words came out. She simply stared at her grandfather with tear-filled eyes.
"Sawyer Jones is not the only outstanding man out there. Consider pursuing someone else; you can find a man who is better than him," James added, noticing her silence. He felt heartbroken for her, but he knew there wasn’t much he could do to help.
Seeing that his father couldn’t assist them and realizing that Sawyer was no longer an option, David began to think differently and instantly agreed with his father’s perspective. He looked at Serena with concern.
Although David wanted Serena to marry the man she loved, he also needed her to marry someone from a powerful, wealthy family to benefit their business.
"Serena, what your grandpa said is right. Why not allow another man to love you? I know many better people out there who would pursue you," David suggested.
"Dad, you—" Serena faltered. She couldn’t believe how quickly her father had changed his stance.
"Why not try pursuing Harvey Jones or Andy Bennet? I hear they are both still single and more powerful and rich than Sawyer," David suggested.
Serena and James were surprised by David’s proposal.
"Dad, why would you suggest I marry them!?" Serena asked, perplexed.
How could she even consider dating Harvey Jones? He was Sawyer’s brother. As for Andy Bennet, he seemed far out of her reach; she had never even met him in person.
"Why not?" David replied, smiling at his daughter. "They are both single, handsome, and wealthy. You need a powerful man to become your husband, Rena."
"I agree with your father. You are successful and have a fantastic career. I support you if you pursue Andy Bennet, but not Harvey!" James chimed in.
"Father, why don’t you support Rena with Harvey? Let her make her own choices. I believe Sawyer will regret it if he finds out Rena marries his older brother!" A devilish smile slowly appeared on David’s lips.
"David, it seems you are blinded by power and have forgotten how awful Harvey is. He lacks respect for elders and has a bad reputation. I can’t let my granddaughter marry someone like that," his father replied.
Serena remained silent, her thoughts consumed by Sawyer. She was still struggling with the idea of Sawyer marrying Abigail Snow.
She no longer paid attention to her father and grandfather’s conversation; she only wanted to return to her apartment and contact her detective.
