Chapter 314: Father’s love

Kyrell observed the figure before him with a calm face. He decided against showing his inner turmoil in front of people that didn’t matter. His true thoughts and feelings were reserved for his beloved. The one that was sleeping serenely on his bed, in his room.

"The Lady.....Her majesty" The witch master treating Lyra had a hard time figuring out the proper way of addressing her. The sleeping lady didn’t seem to have their King’s mating mark, and although not that keen as a bird beastman, the witch master could smell that she had no intimate contact with Kyrell recently. Unlike Lady Alice, Queen Lyra lacked any evidence of becoming the Eagle Queen. That was why he grew even more confused. Why was their king looking so tenderly at a female other than his mate? No matter how much Kyrell tried to hide, the witch master could still see that the former was visibly shaken as he gazed at the one on the bed.

Although he was curious, the witch master decided to keep his mouth shut and continued with his job, "There is nothing to worry about, Your Majesty. The Queen seems to have lost consciousness due to stress and well, she is quite vulnerable given her condition. A good rest will help her recover" Kyrell could infer those words. Back then when he had gone to meet Lyra in the snake tribe, he heard her mates talking about her pregnancy.

Pregnancy...yes, Kyrell suddenly realized his blunder, he felt bad for being rough with her while she was in her current condition. Earlier his clouded mind was filled with anger and frustration making him momentarily forget about her pregnancy. He decided that he would apologize as soon as she woke up. freewёbnoνel.com

However, for now, he glanced at the witch master and said, "You and your team, be on the stand-by. I want at least one witch master to check her condition every passing hour" With a brief pause he added, "Any complication in her health....and I will have all of your heads"

The witch masters and their team of apprentices standing outside the room flinched upon hearing Kyrell’s words. They knew their king well. His words were a warning they should never cross.

"We understand, Your Majesty," they all said in unison except one. The witch master inside the room plucked up his courage before asking the question that had been on everyone’s mind. He thought it was necessary to not make any blunders.

"Your majesty, I don’t mean to offend you but can I ask what your relationship is with this female?" His comrades looked at him with eyes wide and bated breath. They thought he had gone crazy. What if their King takes this as a challenge to his authority?

Kyrell on the other hand got confused instead of getting offended. It was contrary to the worry that witch masters had. His brows came together as he faced the witch master before him, "What kind of question is that? What other relationship would I have with the woman I love?"

The witch master paled, "You mean.....?"

"Lyra is my female," Said Kyrell making everyone in the vicinity shocked, "She is the one I intend to take as a mate and my tribe’s future Queen" He was telling all this as though it was obvious, a matter of fact.

But that was not the case for his tribesmen. The guards, witch masters, and elders were left shocked to their core. The king’s words sounded bizarre and confusing to everyone except one. Elder Edgar, Alice’s father slipped out of the crowd as soon as he heard Kyrell’s ultimatum. He knew that his neck would fall if he continued to stay there. The tribesmen and his fellow elders were too distracted to notice his absence. They were caught up in what their King was saying after all. And Edgar knew....when the initial shock and surprise wean off, they would start to realize that they were fooled. Alice’s ploy would end today.

Her facade of being the tribe’s Queen will fall. And together with his daughter Edgar’s entire family will plummet to the bottom. Just the thought of that was enough to give him a splitting headache. All of this is because of his stupid daughter’s absurd thirst for revenge. She was hell-bent on blaming King Kyrell for her brother’s death even though his majesty didn’t do any wrong. Even if he did wrong, so what? His Majesty was a powerful individual with immense influence. So what if he did kill someone? Edgar believed that his son Noel was but a mere pest in his majesty’s way. For someone that great it made sense that he would make small mistakes, they were negligible at best. Not something to fret about.

Once again he realized how foolish his daughter had been. The best-case scenario for her would have been to mate with the king. Then she could have kept the latter under her thumb for all her life. Make him do her bidding and when she birthed some strong children from Kyrell’s lineage, she could have finally achieved her revenge by killing the king or worse, removing his spousal mark making him a stray.

Alas, all of these were not possible anymore. It is just a futile and brilliant plan Edgar has to bury now that his daughter has messed up. For now, the most important thing he could do was to keep his family and legacy safe even if it meant relinquishing his daughter’s life in the process. When the King learns the truth, he will surely get filled with wrath and Edgar somehow has to shift that wrath towards only Alice. Unlike her, he vowed to look at the bigger picture and his family’s bright future.

But before doing anything though, he has to find his daughter. He roamed around searching every nook and cranny of the tribe to no avail.

"Alice....." A frustrated sigh left his mouth as he desperately looked around, "Where the hell are you, Alice!?" He failed to find even a shadow of his daughter after an hour of searching. There was no more time left. Before the King could act, he wanted to make sure to capture Alice and bring her to the court. The Elders that were on Edgar’s side will prolonge the judgment in the name of inquiry. Passing a punishment to females was not that easy. They were precious commodities to the tribe and no matter the crimes, the tribesmen would feel hesitant in seeing a female in pain.

Yes, the king would be absolutely livid and would seek Alice’s blood but he will not be foolish enough to act on his impulses when the tribe’s well-being will be on the line. However, there was another option. The worst one. If His Majesty got his hand on Alice before she could reach the public eye, then no one would be able to save her.

Edgar felt like his daughter should be thankful for having a father like him. After everything she pulled, he was still thinking about saving her life.
