Chapter 308: Disparity

After her conversation with Noah, Lyra wandered around the castle trying to find her cubs that had gone missing. No, it was more like they were trying to hide from her on purpose. After their Grandfather’s funeral, the two suddenly fell ill maybe due to all the stress and to counter that, she made them drink medicine concocted by the Lion tribe’s witch master. Which by the way seemed far too ’Untasty’ for those brats. They even went as far as blabbering that they would hate their mommy if she forced them to drink it again. Their father though was kind enough to translate their yapping to her word by word making the cubs angry at him.

It seemed those little midgets didn’t want their mother to understand all of their secret talking.

"Babies, where are you?" Lyra called climbing up the stairs, "Babies.....?" her words drawled out with her eyes going wide in surprise.

Lyra blinked just to make sure that she was not seeing things. In her room, on her bed, a familiar figure was seated looking completely unfamiliar.

"Victor?" She hesitatingly asked taking a step towards him, "Wha-what happened to you?" frёewebηovel.cѳm

She received no reply to her question and instead saw him acting sheepish as though he was vehemently against opening his mouth. He kept on avoiding her eyes and squirmed away the more she neared him.

Lyra saw red. She saw red in a literal sense.....maybe it was more appropriate to say that she saw it in a visual sense.

"You....." She was frowning, "Why are you like this?" His entire body was red. He looked like a cooked lobster and shied away whenever she tried to touch him. His excessive squirming made her lose her calm, "Stop!"

That made him stop. He sheepishly looked up at his mate and as soon as he met her eyes, he lowered his own. It was like he was adamant about keeping his mouth shut.

"Victor...." Lyra called out in a warning tone, "Spit it out. What did you do?" It was more like she wanted to shout at him. ’What the hell did you do to yourself’ Those words though remained inside her mouth. Making a scene would gain her nothing. Hence she waited. She waited patiently until he decided to open his mouth.

"I....."

"You?" She encouraged rubbing his head soothingly.

Victor took a deep breath. He acted as though he was making the hardest decision of his life as he spoke, "Last time, you pushed me away when I tried to hug you"

"I pushed you?" Lyra was confused, "When did I do that?"

He pouted, clearly sulking, "You did. You refused to hug anyone other than that scorpion"

"Oh," Lyra recalled, her eyes softening but soon they were filled with more confusion, "As I remember, I never pushed you away. I just hugged, Demir" Because he felt strangely comforting at that time.

"It is the same" Victor argued, "You hugging him instead of me means that you abandoned me"

"Abandon you?" Lyra chuckled hearing his absurdity, "You are talking everything, aren’t you? But, what does all that have to do with you becoming a lobster?"

Victor’s face fell. He looked at her in disbelief and betrayal, "A lobster? Sweet girl, are you resorting to insults after what you did to me?"

Lyra pursed her lips trying not to laugh but it became harder as he continued to speak, "I was heartbroken when you refused to hug me but more than that, I was jealous of that bastard, Demir. He got to hug you. So I decided" His eyes brimmed with determination as he spoke, "I tried to find out why you only hugged, Demir. When I recalled the situation, it was clear that you kept on sniffing him"

"I did?" Her cheeks reddened as he added nonchalantly to her hesitant question, "You did, Sweet girl. You were sniffing Demir like a curious pup"

"Oh," Lyra was at a loss for words. At least he didn’t say she was like a dog. Taking consolation in that, she decided to ask more, "So what did you do when you learned about me..., sniff....sigh what happened after that?"

Victor was quick to answer, "Well, after that I decided to take a bath"

"Take a bath?"

He nodded, "I took a bath about fifty times, in hot water. I made sure to scrub myself clean with a rock then I went to Demir’s garden and spent time between those plants. To smell like him. See..." he showed a pouch attached to his waist as he added, "This too is filled with herbs from that garden. You know just to make sure"

Lyra didn’t know what to say. She was tongue-tied. After a long time, she managed to open her mouth, "Oh, sweet boy...." tears pooled in her eyes as she continued, "My sweet boy" Once again she was reminded about how important she was, No! females were to the males of this beast world. To them, their mate was their entire world but to women? Not so much. Lyra herself had a duty to love all of her mates. Favoring one was not right when all of her men loved her wholeheartedly. Till now, she had tried her best to keep her love equal but one misstep and this was the result of it.

She also didn’t know why she did that when she learned of her pregnancy. It was like an instinct. Demir smelled so comforting that day. She hugged him before she could think. But that action turned out to hurt her other mates. Especially Victor who was known to be a sensitive individual.

"I’m so sorry, sweet boy," She said while hugging his head.

Victor blinked his eyes in surprise and hugged her waist resting his head on her stomach. He briefly tried to hear anything of the baby but it seemed too soon.

"I shouldn’t have done that, I’m sorry"

This made him frown. He pulled himself away and looked up at her, "You did no wrong, sweet girl. Don’t apologize" It was their mistake for not smelling good enough for their mate. As a male, it was their duty to always please their female. Demir just did what he was supposed to do. On the other side, he together with others failed.

"I was sad when that happened but that was never directed at you, Sweet girl" he explained himself, "Thanks to that, I’m striving to be better for you. I’m sure others are thinking the same"

"Victor...."Lyra frowned, "You shouldn’t think like that"

"It’s okay sweet girl" Victor replied not at all fazed by her words, "This is how our world runs. Males are present to serve our females. Their comfort takes precedence over everything else"

"Stop! Don’t say that" Lyra once again pulled him into a hug, "Victor, I don’t like that kind of thing"

"Mm?"

"Relationships shouldn’t be like that. I refuse that kind of thing no matter which world I’m in. Sweetheart, I want to have a healthy relationship with you guys"

Victor nodded, "Like what?"

Lyra sighed, "I want us to have a balanced relationship. I want you to love me but more than that, I want you guys to love yourself"

"That is not possible, sweet girl," Victor shook his head with a smile on his face, "Not at least in our world. Males loving themselves...that too above their mates? This is not possible"
