Beauty in the beast world-Chapter 295: Convincing
Chapter 295: Convincing
The Wolf King was immersed in his inquiry as he grilled the guards with question after question. Meanwhile, on the other side, his spouse and Mona tried to console the Lion Queen. They pulled her up to let her rest until all the preparations for upcoming rituals were complete.
"Is this their counterattack for what you guys did to them?" asked the Scorpion King as he looked at his son. He already knew the answer to his question but still wanted to be sure of it. He didn’t want to make unnecessary assumptions.
"Noah and Lucas had attacked them" Demir acknowledged their actions, "Blake helped them to clean up. Other than that, we did nothing"
"For them to murder a tribe’s king just because you guys killed some of their beastmen, isn’t this underestimating us?" this was what the scorpion king thought. Where did their confidence come from? Was it because they had an immortal beastman by their side? Well, King Kyrell was not invincible, he could be harmed or worse killed if planned properly. With Blake, Demir, Killian, and Lyra’s new suitor, Kaizer, it would be easy for them to end the Eagle King together with his entire tribe.
"The Eagles are surprisingly short-sighted for the beings that are normally sharp" Stated the scorpion king.
Demir huffed, "Well, they have always been arrogant. Sometimes intellect stops working when overconfidence comes into play"
"That’s true" His father agreed. Those who think of themselves as the strongest and the most important will always end up making bad decisions. Their ego never lets them see beyond themselves.
"It is better for us to go and investigate the place where all this occurred" The scorpion king announced before adding, "I will lead some of my men and try to collect any possible evidence that might prove the Eagle tribe guilty"
Demir looked at his father as the latter started to gather some of the guards from their tribe. He knew that it was the right and very necessary step to take, to convict the ones that were responsible for this disaster. However, in a corner of his heart, Demir felt somewhat nervous seeing his father about to leave and it didn’t take long for his nerves to turn into words, "Don’t go"
The scorpion king turned back and heard his son repeat, "Don’t go, Father. If it is such a necessity, then I will go. From now on, avoid going outside without me"
Demir’s father blinked his eyes in disbelief. Was he hearing things? He couldn’t believe what he just heard and asked, "Right now.....are you worried about me?"
"What nonsense....?" Demir felt flustered by his father’s question. He just mentioned it in passing and nothing else. Moreover, due to the lion king’s death, there was already so much tension in the tribe and he didn’t want to add to it. Who knows when the Eagles might attack next? So until they deal with that wretched tribe, it was better for them to be careful.
But Demir’s surprised face made the scorpion king smile. The latter knew that it was not right to smile like this while there was someone dead lying just a few steps away from them. He knew it but still, his emotions got the best of him. Right now, his son was worrying about him. Only he knew how many years he had spent waiting for his son’s love. Although their relationship was not bad, it was also not completely good. Demir had always put up distance between them and the Scorpion King was afraid of crossing it. He didn’t want to accidentally offend his son and worsen their relationship by making hasty actions.
On the other hand, Demir frowned at his father’s twinkling eyes before spitting out, "Stop looking at me like that!" then he started to storm out of that place but not before saying, "I’m telling you again, don’t roam around places without informing me"
"Alright," The scorpion king said while trying to contain his happiness, "I will not go anywhere without you by my side, son"
While this was going on one side, there were preparations for King Leonard’s funeral happening on the other side.
Lucas’ mother and his sister took the Lion Queen inside the snake castle to let the latter rest. Lyra too was sleeping after crying for a long time. Noah left her in Blake’s care and left to get ready for the upcoming rituals.
After making sure that the Lion Queen was comfortable, Mona left the room and went in search of Lyra. By the time, she reached there, her sister-in-law had woken up and was once again crying her eyes out.
Blake and Killian felt lost seeing their mate like this. They wished Victor was here because the latter was very good at uplifting their mate’s mood whenever she was sad. Right now, that Vulture was busy preparing a place where the guests could rest.
Mona sighed pitying the two males, "Lyra.....enough already, you will hurt yourself if you keep this up" Her sister in law was unrecognizable with all the crying. Her eyes were swollen and red while she looked like she could collapse any moment now.
Lyra kept her head buried in her knees and refused to stop sobbing even after hearing Mona’s words, "Crying will not bring back the one who is already gone"
"I know" Lyra agreed within her muffled sobs. She knew that fact. Death was the worst thing that could happen to anyone. Families would suffer endlessly after one’s death. There will always be an ache that will never disappear whenever they think of the person who has left. Noah, her mother-in-law, her babies, and the Lion tribe will never be the same. It was even more saddening because her father-in-law didn’t die peacefully but was murdered by the man she once trusted and loved. Just a mere thought of that vile person made her angry. Angry at herself for ever loving such a man.
Mona had a complicated look on her face as she observed her brother’ mate. She didn’t know the whole story but knew enough to realize the culprit for all of this mishap. When her mother informed her about the Eagle King, Mona had a hard time believing what she heard. A male going to such lengths to torment the female he once loved was never heard. She had heard many things before but had not seen something like this.
From what she saw of Lyra, Mona could deduce that the former was not a bad person. She didn’t look like someone that deserved all of this. So she did the only thing that came to her mind. She hugged her sister-in-law and said, "None of this is your fault, Lyra. The one who is responsible for this should suffer....not you"
Blake and Killian looked at each other before turning back to their mate. They were thankful to Lucas’ sister for doing this. If they tried to say those words, then it would sound like they were telling it just because of being her mates. However, Mona was different. The latter had spent little time with their mate and was practically a stranger. Hearing those consoling words from someone outside and that being a woman, made Lyra relax. The latter finally convinced herself that this was not her doing. She was not a murderer but one of the victims in all this fiasco.
While the calm returned to Lyra, the story was altogether different for Lucas who was currently hearing the guard’s words. The storm in his heart grew and anger burned his veins, "Who is here?" the turmoil he went through seeing his uncle’s death which was his best friend’s greatest loss was gut-wrenching. His mate was heartbroken and devastated. But now...he was here? After creating all this mess, he was here?
The guards shuddered to see the prince like this but managed to answer, "King Kyrell, is at the entrance, Your Highness. He is seeking entry inside the tribe"
