Beauty in the beast world-Chapter 294: The effort
Chapter 294: The effort
Blake felt furious about everything that was happening. The death of King Leonard was the least possible outcome he had expected due to their bad blood with the Eagle tribe. Kyrell...had not only betrayed their mate but also disappointed them. Yes, disappointment was the perfect word he could think of regarding that son of bitch. He came unexpectedly into their lives, kidnapped his mate, somehow made her fall in love with him, failed to protect her, and at last, broke her heart.
His mate was very soft-hearted even though she tried to put on a strong front. For a long time, she struggled with the idea of having multiple males in her life. She grew up in a monogamous society and was thrown here without any warning. She quickly adapted to the Beast world’s norms to keep herself and their family safe. Having only one mate didn’t really make sense for females when all the males in this world were as stubborn as a mule. The latter rarely gave up on the ones they fancied and would go to extremes if it meant having the former by their side. Blake was no different. He too would have done worse if his Lilly didn’t accept him.
For males that are so fierce and loyal towards the one they love, Kyrell’s actions seemed bizarre. The latter not only mated with another female but was also trying to hurt the one he had loved before. His Lilly would never forgive herself for King Leonard’s death even though there was nothing she could have done to avoid it. It was not even her fault, to begin with, but she would blame herself and as her mate, Blake didn’t know how he could console his mate. Every time she looked at Noah, she would be reminded of this dreadful day and there was nothing he could do about it. In no way was it possible for him to relieve her troubles.
Kyrell doing this was a huge blow to them. It would not only affect his mate but also her future relationship with the Lion tribe. The two little princes too would be implicated but he also had to admit that there was a chance of this not escalating further. Blake hugged his mate as he cast his glance at the sobbing Lion Queen. The latter’s response to this situation would serve as the foundation for future events.
Lyra had a hard time holding back the tears that freely trickled down her cheeks. Her head hurt with a spitting headache and she felt extremely nauseous. All of this was too overwhelming for her. Kyrell...did he hate her so much that he would do something this dreadful? What had she even done to him to incur so much wrath? He made her incapable of facing Noah and the Lion tribe. How would she be able to face her little cubs knowing that she is responsible for their beloved grandfather’s death?
Nonetheless, Lyra wanted to make an effort, this was not her moment to cry and wallow in her own sorrow. No, this was not the time to selfishly feel sorry for herself while her mate and her family needed her. She took a shaking breath trying to calm her erratic nerves and once she did, she moved from Blake’s embrace.
Blake was startled by his mate’s actions and looked down to see her giving him a sad yet comforting smile.
"I will be alright, Blake" Lyra breathed out before walking towards her mother-in-law. Then she kneeled beside the latter and parted her lips, "Mother?"
The Lion Queen turned towards the sound and frowned. Her eyes were bloodshot due to the constant sobbing and rubbing of her eyes while her other mates tried to console her to their best abilities. Her face looked haggard and her confident aura seemed lost. She had heard the crowd’s whispers regarding her mate’s death and couldn’t help but feel angry. And when she felt her daughter-in-law embrace her, the anger that boiled only increased which made her hug Lyra back. She felt angry at the Eagle tribe, she felt furious on behalf of this sweet child who had always been nothing but loving towards them.
The entire Lion tribe has and will always love Lyra. The Queen felt her heartbreak when she heard the latter say, "I’m so sorry, Mother" There were so many emotions filled in those words.
And the only thing the Queen could reply to those heartfelt words was, "It’s not your fault, Dearest. Let us not blame ourselves for the mistakes that strangers committed" If the Eagle tribe wanted to drive a wedge between their family by this incident then they have definitely failed. The Lion Queen would never let that happen. Her son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons were her family as much as her late mate was. She didn’t want them to suffer for the mistakes that they had not made. The Lion tribe would do the same, they will not blame the innocent. That was not the kind of tribe her late mate had built.
Coming to that conclusion, the Queen pulled away from Lyra and wiped the latter’s tears while saying, "Don’t cry anymore child, your eyes are already swollen and red"
"Mother" Lyra didn’t know what to say. What had she done to receive this much love? And why did it feel so comforting knowing that someone trusted her to this extent? Kyrell...Lyra would never forgive him for hurting a woman like this. A strong woman who was comforting the main cause of her Husband’s death just because they were family.
"Hush, now....." The Queen repeated and then gathered the two howling cubs from the ground in her arms. She looked at the small lives as she said, "Enough, darlings. No need to cry, your grandfather has gone to the Beast god" Her voice cracked as she added, "I’m sure he will be happy there.....he must be"
Then she glanced at her son, "Naoh, go along and make the necessary preparations for the next rituals" When he stood frozen she urged him more, "You are a Prince, my boy, your responsibilities should come before emotions"
Noah nodded briefly before taking the cubs from his mother and lifting his mate from the ground. He ran his eyes along his mate’s crying face which made him frown. She looked so exhausted and weary. With a small kiss on the side of her side, he pulled her away from the crowd and strode towards the snake castle.
When the duo left, the calm once again turned into chaos as the Silver Wolf King stepped forward while asking the guards, "Where is Leo’s aide? I don’t see him anywhere. Wasn’t he with his King while going on the excursion?" King Helio felt something was gnawing at his insides. The loss he has suffered today was too great. His comrade, his best friend, and his lifelong companion was gone. It was not only Leonard that was dead but even Helio was half dead today. His life and his self were equally divided to his mate and his friend. So this was like he had lost his half-self.
The continuous peace and tranquility in the Beast City were achieved by Leonard’s efforts. The latter was the one who made a plan to establish a city, appointing city guards and defense. Helio just assisted his friend’s plans for a better future. But now, the one who had taken various measures to ensure everyone’s happiness is dead. Killed in the city that he had built.
"The Leader has suffered severe injuries, Your Majesty. A few hours ago, he came rushing with his blood-covered body and deployed the guards to go to the place where King Leonard was getting attacked" answered one of the scouting guards regarding King Helio’s previous question, "Then he collapsed and was taken to our tribe’s witch doctor for treatment"
Helio sighed, "What did the witch doctor say? Will he survive?"
The guard bowed, "He said that it will be difficult, Your Majesty"
"How many guards were found dead with Leo?"
"About fifteen, your majesty. Our comrades had tried their best to keep our king safe" There was pride as well as sadness in the guard’s voice. Indeed they had tried their best. While King Leonard came back dead in one piece, the guards were mauled beyond recognition.
"Those Eagle bastards" King Helio gnashed his teeth.
