Beauty in the beast world-Chapter 289: The commotion

Xavier darted his eyes around the place seemingly trying to find someone and when he finally did, a soft smile graced his lips which he quickly wiped away. There she was walking toward him wearing a beautiful dress that made her prettier. Her face held a small smile with a light flush on her cheeks. Blue and gleaming eyes that appeared darker due to the night sky met his own.

"Welcome, Your Majesty. I’m glad that you came today" he heard her say, and before he could reply someone else did.

"You should be" Lexi had a scowl on her face as she added, "Consider it an honor because our Fox tribe doesn’t go to lesser events like these....much less the one organized by a Feral tribe"

Lyra’s smile dropped from her face upon hearing those words. She gripped Blake’s hand indicating to him to not say anything rude. She didn’t want to cause any unnecessary trouble on this special day.

"Please, come inside" Instead of reacting, Lyra decided to completely ignore the fox princess’ harsh words. She recognized Lexi, the latter was close to Elena and Elena hated Lyra. However, that had nothing to do with Lyra. It was not like she was close to either of them so their like or hatred towards her meant nothing to Lyra.

Blake glared at the entire Fox entourage including the Fox king. He did not like how the Fox princess talked to his mate. After that incident with Kyrell’s mate, these kinds of females angered him to no end. They had nothing better to do than hurt others with their irrelevant words. His mate’s pleading gaze stopped him from throwing these foxes out of his tribe. He decided to stay calm for now. For his mate.

However, it seemed like Xavier had other plans. He looked at his sister getting her attention, "Lexi?"

Lexi felt chills along her spine. While glaring at Lyra, she felt a familiar gaze on her which made her turn to it. She flinched in her place as she caught her brother’s stern gaze glaring at her, "Yes brother?"

"Leave"

"What?" Lexi felt like she was hearing wrong, "What do you mean by that, brother?"

"It is just as you heard" Xavier deadpanned, "Leave and return to the tribe. There is no need for you to attend tonight’ banquet"

Lexi furrowed her brows, "Brother....You want me to leave?" her cheeks burned red with shame as she felt everyone’ gaze on her. Her mates were confused just like her but none had the guts to question her brother, their king and that left only her, "Why is that?" She could already guess why he was saying that but didn’t want to admit it. It would be too humiliating for her to acknowledge the reason for her brother’s behavior. She was getting berated in front of this entire crowd merely because of the Feral’s mate. Lyra.

"I’m not your father, Lexi" Xavier muttered, "He may have forgiven your snide remarks as nothing but I will not. Under my rule, you don’t have such luxury so before I lose it, leave at once"

’It is a lie’ Lexi knew this more than anyone else. Her brother, her nonchalant and didn’t care for anything brother was the last person that would get triggered by her words. Instead, he let her be whenever she was rude to others. Be it to an elder or to a king of another tribe.....Xavier didn’t care. The only explanation for this...for him to do something he had never done before was because of Lyra. He was interested in that female yet he didn’t seem to know that. He was probably in denial. His ego was too much for him to see clearly.

This was turning worse as time passed and Lexi refused to let it continue any further, "I’m not leaving, brother" She would not leave this place. Xavier must never realize his feelings. Lexi would not let that happen.

"Lexi....!" Xavier’s tone dropped. He gnashed his teeth and was about to say more but came to a halt hearing her next words.

"I apologize, Your Majesty" Lexi bowed slightly before adding, "Please, forgive me for my words were incentive and not at all proper"

Lyra who received a sudden apology was dumbstruck. She glanced at Blake and then at Xavier before finally settling on Lexi, "It’s alright, princess. Please raise your head"

"Thank you, Your Majesty" And before anyone could say more, Lexi strode inside the snake tribe with her mates in tow. Lyra, Blake, and Xavier were too stunned to speak. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

"This way, Your Majesty," Lyra said snapping out of her daze and escorted Xavier and the rest of the fox tribe inside.

As soon as they stepped inside the snake tribe, the air shifted. Boisterous laughter from the attendees filled the place. Fox tribe was given their own space before Lyra and Blake left.

Xavier’s gaze followed Lyra as the latter mingled with the Lion and Wolf tribe while he had to settle with his own tribe.

Lexi on the other hand, smirked when she saw Lucas near the food table. She excused herself before going there. Her mind was filled with different things she wanted to say but she stopped herself. She had already been humiliated once and that irked her. Even now, she was receiving weird glances from the crowd. She wanted that to stop it and she would do just that. She decided to shift the negative attention to someone else and Lucas, the hot-headed was the best candidate for that.

"How have you been, Lucas?"

Lucas who was busy selecting the finest meat to roast for his mate froze when he heard a familiar voice. And when he turned to his side, he almost swore out loud questioning his luck. Lexi was looking at him with a huge smile on her face which made him anxious for some reason. Lexi.....was as troublesome as Elena but not as dumb as the latter.

The fox princess had her way with words. Both Lexi and Elena did wrong things together but only the latter got caught. It had always been like this. Elena would commit questionable acts with her friend’s instigation and the only one that would get burned with consequences was the former.

In simple words, getting caught up with Lexi’s shenanigans was not what Lucas wanted tonight. He wanted to enjoy the banquet organized by his lovely mate without getting caught up in worthless banter. So he decided to ignore Lexi and was about to leave until he heard.

"Elena still wants you"

"So?" Lucas snapped back, "What the hell does that have anything to do with me?" What was this mad woman trying to say?

Lexi sighed, "Lucas.....you don’t understand. Elena loves you so much"

Lucas frowned, "So fucking what!? I have a mate that I love"

"You can always dissolve your relationship with her. Getting rid of your mating mark on her body is all it takes for you and Elena....."

"Stop right there!" Lucas yelled this time which caught the bystander’s attention. Everyone slowly gathered around them which made Lexi smile inwardly while Lucas continued, "Have you completely lost it just like your friend? How dare you....."

He could not believe what he heard. Removing spousal mark? Leaving his mate? His head boiled in rage which he was trying hard to keep in check. Just hearing those words pushed him to the edge. He knew that it was nothing but nonsense which was meant to rile him up. He knew it but that didn’t help in any case. How dare she.....suggest something like this?

Meanwhile, Lyra who was chatting with the Lion and the wolf queen stopped when she heard Lucas’ loud voice yelling at someone. She together with her mates stood up from their places. They soon caught sight of a small crowd forming near the food area which made her frown.
