Chapter 286: The start manipulation

[Eagle Tribe]

Inside a dark room filled with eerie silence, a large figure lying on the ground squirmed slightly. And with a few more movements, the latter propped itself up.

Kyrell still in his beast form, strolled towards the room’s balcony where a beam of moonlight was falling. He carefully spread his wings which almost covered the entire space around him. His golden feathers gleamed against the moon creating a picturesque image. Soon, he opened his eyes, revealing his ruby orbs.

His eyes quickly closed as he started to shift into his beastman form.

’Thud’ Following that, he heard a sound just behind him making him turn. Near the room’s entrance stood a familiar figure looking at him with wide eyes. Kyrell also noticed a stone bowl with contents inside it spilled on the ground before her.

"You woke up, Kyrell?" She asked while stepping inside the room. Alice felt her palm clammy and her throat dry due to her anxiousness. How could she not be nervous even after seeing Kyrell wake up? She knew little of the incredible healing powers possessed by Immortal beastmen.

Alice knew that they were strong but this...this was something worrisome, especially for her. Kyrell got severely beaten up by not one but several of those with the same power as his. She had seen his battered form with her own eyes and could tell that injuries of that level were not something that could be cured easily. Nevertheless, here he was, parading around the room looking perfectly healthy only after a few days. He had even managed to shift into his beastman form so Alice’s wish of seeing Kyrell suffer for some more time seemed to vanish.

As Alice observed Kyrell with a complicated look on her face, the latter did what he deemed urgent. He quickly covered himself with whatever was available inside the room. He didn’t like the idea of females other than Lyra seeing him in his nakedness. He has already chosen a mate of his own so other females meant nothing for him. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

"Where is my aid?" asked Kyrell, "And when did you return to the tribe?"

"I was called here by my father" answered Alice as she stepped inside the room avoiding the stone bowl on her way. She put on the most convincing and sad face she could muster before continuing, "He informed me about your condition and I couldn’t help but come here....to see you and to make sure that you are alright"

Kyrell frowned, "Since when did you care so much about me?" The Alice he knew was nothing like this. Every time she met him, the only thing he received was her cold contempt-filled words stating him as her brother’s murderer.

Noel, his friend, and Alice’s brother who got killed by the former eagle king was the most important person in each of their lives. When Noel met his demise, it was not only Kyrell that was affected. All of Noel’s family members were grief stricken and Alice the former’s sister blamed Kyrell for everything that befell them.

Kyrell was quite alright with that. It was indeed his fault that Noel died.....his father killed the latter because he was close to him. This was what he had thought for the longest time but not anymore. Not after meeting his Lyra. Her thoughts were opposite of his own. She said that the only one who should be blamed was his father.

Lyra said that he shouldn’t feel guilty for the hateful things others did. It was not his responsibility. It was okay to feel sorry for his friend and miss him but he shouldn’t burden himself with the crime that he didn’t commit. Surprisingly, this was what Noel would have said if Kyrell ever met him again in the afterlife.

His friend was a kind but a firm beastman. And one thing that he hated the most was self-loathing. The former always reminded Kyrell that it was not his fault for getting poorly treated by his father and brother. None of it was his mistake. His father and brother were just the kind of assholes that would torment him even if he did things differently. That was it. Nothing more or nothing less.

However, Alice was a different story altogether. She had every right to stay mad at him for being responsible for her brother’s death. The late eagle king’s eyes fell on Noel because of Kyrell and that was a well-known fact. No one could change that, not even the late Noel himself. Whenever Alice visited the eagle tribe which she did sparingly and only during Derek’s rule, she found various ways to insult Kyrell. She used to play some shenanigans where he fell into trouble.

"For what reason have you come here, Alice?" Repeated Kyrell, "Be honest with your answer, I’m not the same beastman you have met in the past" He would not sit still if she came here just to spite him. Kyrell was not alone now. He had a beloved he needed to protect.

"I can see that" Alice muttered. She could see his change. It was not a bad one unfortunately and all of this was because of that pest of a female, "You guessed right, I came here because I needed something" She decided to play the bad guy for now. This was much more effective in fooling him.....far better than treating him well. He would not believe her anyway so why the hassle?

And just as she had expected, Kyrell visibly lowered his guard hearing her familiar words, "What is it that you need?"

"You"

"What?"

"I want you," Alice said with a smirk, "To be precise, I want you to make me your queen. The queen of the Eagle tribe"

Kyrell furrowed his brows before chuckling, as though he found this situation amusing, "I think you have not heard of it yet. My tribe already has a queen"

"Not yet though" countered Alice, "You have not mated with her yet have you?"

He smiled, "That doesn’t matter to me. In fact, it should not matter to anyone in or outside my tribe. I have chosen her and she is my queen, that’s it" Then he glanced at the night sky beyond the balcony. It looked beautiful just like his Lyra. Kyrell then turned his attention back to the one in the room, "And one more thing, I wouldn’t have chosen you my queen even if Lyra was not present in my life" He wouldn’t even become a king if not for Lyra but that was something he didn’t feel the need to share with someone who hated him.

Alice clenched her fists burying her nails into her palm. It was not like she wanted to become this bastard’ mate. The mere thought of sleeping with him made her nauseous but her thoughts mattered less in the face of revenge. Sweet revenge that she could obtain by completely destroying the one that destroyed her family.

She wanted to see him suffer so she couldn’t help but taunt him, "Only you think like that, what a pity"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean....your beloved, the female that you oh so worship has abandoned you has she not?" her smile grew dark as she added, "She has thrown you away, Eagle King"
