Killian was feeling restless. He could sense that something was wrong with his mate through his mate bond. The only thing holding him from rushing out to find his mate was because of Victor, Demir, and Lucas. The three of them looked calm as they continued to play with the Lion cubs.

Becoming one’s soulmate equaled feeling all of their partner’s feelings, be it happiness or sadness. And most of the time, he mistakenly ran to her when he felt a fluctuation in her mood. This cost him a lot because, instead of being happy, she got mad at him for coming to her, and the reason for that was her heat which she went through every month. She got emotional during that time and kept on getting sad or mad making all of them confused and in the end, they could do nothing but get used to it. So keeping that incident as a reminder in his mind, he restrained himself from going to her whenever she felt sad or moody.

However, this decision of his soon backfired on him when his mate returned to the snake tribe with a not so welcomed visitor by her side. Dark blue hair which could be mistaken to black if not seen correctly and amethyst-colored eyes that were dripping with haughtiness. A face filled with nonchalance with one of his arms around Lyra’s waist. The rootless beastman proudly stepped inside the snake castle as Blake and Noah followed behind in tow.

Victor who was rolling on the ground playing with the cubs, suddenly raised himself when he sensed an unfamiliar scent entering the castle. Lucas too gathered the cubs in his arms before getting up. Silence engulfed the place until Lyra broke it, "This is Kaizer....’’ It felt odd introducing her supposedly new mate to her other mates but she had to, "He is my new mate’’

Demir was the first to react to his mate’s words, "What did you just say?’’ there was confusion in his voice. He stared at his mate only for her to turn away from meeting his eyes. He was lost and didn’t know what to do. His mate never behaved like this before.

"Huh?’’ Whereas Victor felt like he was hearing wrong, "Sweet girl what are you saying?’’ then his furious gaze landed on Kaizer which was returned back with the same intensity as the former, "What is this rootless beastman doing here in the first place?’’

"Noah, what is this?’’ Lucas too couldn’t help but ask. But to his query, Noah just lowered his head maintaining his silence. The former was flabbergasted by his friend’s behavior, "What the hell is wrong with you!?’’ In the end, he was not able to take it anymore and yelled at Noah but the latter still stayed tight-lipped as he had his fists clenched on his sides. How could he say that he had failed to protect his mate? How could he tell that he lost their mate to a rootless beastman out of all? This was exactly what happened back in the Rose castle. Males vying for a chance with a female they fancied, fought with their previous mates in order to prove their worth. And Kaizer passed that condition whether he liked it or not. Their mate too accepted that rootless beastman as her mate and nobody could change the truth. Yes, she was forced to accept him to keep Blake and himself safe, but that did not mean anything to anyone. The rootless beastman won his chance fair and square and that was the end of the story.

Blake on the other side, had a hard time raising his head and meeting eyes with others. His precious mate was in another’s arms and that too unwillingly. She sacrificed herself for keeping them safe and he felt like that made him as her mate, even more loathsome. He vowed to protect and keep her happy for all her life to only use her as a means to keep himself and his family safe. How arrogant he was in the beginning, thinking of keeping her all to himself? It was simply not possible for a pathetic being like himself.

"Blake....?’’ Blake’s train of thought came to a halt when he heard a familiar cold voice calling him. He hesitantly looked up and saw Killian glaring at him, "What happened, Blake?’’

Killian felt like he would burst any moment now. No one was explaining things to him and his mate.....She refused to meet his eyes as she stayed in that rootless bastard’s arms. And her ridiculous notion about taking the latter as her mate, Killian had a hard time stopping himself from lashing out. Kenna was seeking his permission to come out as it sensed his anger. Clenching his fists, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath trying to calm himself before opening them, "Let her go’’

If no one from his family was going to explain whatever the hell was going on, then he had no choice but to direct the query at the stranger that intruded on their home, "Let my mate go, you bastard!’’

"Killian....’’ And when Lyra tried to talk, he harshly snapped at her making her flinch, "You are finally going to talk!? Then tell me, why the heck is this rootless beastman here in our house?’’

"Tell us, Sunshine" chimed in Demir, "Who is he and what is this about him becoming your mate? We will not be able to understand unless you speak’’

"I said to get away from her" But it seemed like Killian’s talking came to an end because, without wasting any more time, he stepped towards Lyra and Kaizer before trying to pull his mate away from the latter.

However, his attempt failed when Kaizer refused to let Lyra go, and a familiar black smoke that had previously attacked Blake and Noah pushed Killian away from them. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

"Killian!’’ a surprised yelp left Lyra’s lips as she tried to rush toward her mate to only be stopped by Kaizer. By now, tears were dripping down her cheeks as she hurriedly looked back at Kaizer, "Please, don’t hurt him. You promised me that you wouldn’t hurt my mates as long as I stayed with you’’

"You did what now?’’ Victor said interrupting them. Lyra glanced at him while pleading, "Please, Victor not now.....’’

’’My sweet girl" there was a warning in his voice and Lyra realized that he was pissed, "So you are telling me that this imbecile threatened to hurt us if you don’t become his mate? Tell me I’m wrong, this is a lie right?"

"I did nothing of that sort" but the one to answer him was Kaizer. The latter looked offended hearing Victor’s words, "These two.....’’ he said while pointing at Blake and Noah, "Failed in keeping our mate safe. When I saw her back there in the rose castle, there was a bruise formed on one of her cheeks until the Fox king healed her’’

"Wait wait’’ Lucas said holding his palm out, "What are you even saying? Our mate was attacked by whom? The Fox King? Then what happened?’’

’Sigh’ Kaizer sighed, "You got it all wrong, Wolf...’’

"Lucas’’ Lucas corrected him.

"Yes, Lucas. This is a long story and I need time to explain it. Please, hear me out’’ he never pleaded with someone much less a weak male but the Wolf seemed like a person with mindfulness, unlike someone that was trying to burn his shadow creature with his pesky fire, "That will not work. It is better if you leave it at that and hear me instead’’ he said successfully stopping Killian from burning the entire castle.

"And bunny’’ he returned his gaze to his beloved female, "I can promise that I will not hurt them unless they try to hurt me. That will count as self-defense and cannot be helped. You understand right?"

Lyra nodded meekly while he added, "Good. Now go and rest. I will clear everything myself’’

"Come here, Lilly’’ Blake wanted his mate to get away from this chaotic place. He knew how she was still hurting due to Kyrell and all of this happened without giving her any chance to let her emotions out. She had to shove her sadness down in order to placate the rootless beastman and it must have been exhausting for her.

Lyra felt too tired to deal with anything right now and that made her walk to Blake. She just followed his lead and exited the living room leaving her mates alone with Kaizer. And as soon as she reached her room, she collapsed on the bed and closed her eyes.

"I’m sorry" that was all Blake could say and the reply he received for that broke his heart, "I want to be alone for a while, Blake’’

"I understand’’ he said standing up from the bed. Then he tucked his mate in a thick blanket before leaving the room.
