Chapter 158: Learning Natural Feelings

After Astri gives her cubs kisses and hugs for being good kids and her spouses spoil Yuki enough, they go back to talk about their previous subject. Xzan and Dante were there watching from the beginning. They were rooting for the boys and wanted to spoil Yuki, too, but they’re not forcing anything, so nothing looks so strange.

Shung arrives with Yank and learns what happened to Yuki and the boys. As the good grandfather that he is, Shung spoils Yuki a little more.

Astri wrote down everything she told Galion about managing a tournament and what they would need to build. Galion asked them to wait until he was back to talk about their next trip.

Galion stands up and goes to the front gate to talk to the beastmen waiting for him. When he arrives there he looks at the line of beastmen, then counts them in his mind.

"There are 42 already.. Well, all of you are here to become Lady Astri’s guards?" Galion asks.

"Yes, sir!" They answer in unison.

Galion calls all of them to get closer.

"All right. The first thing that you need to know is that being her guard will not necessarily mean you will become her mates. Our mission is to protect her above anything else even though she’s not our mate because her mission is to protect all of us. Most of us give up having a mate because of that. Being her guard is a mission that does not fit everyone, and only the best and the most trustful ones must be selected." Galion explains after they are close enough.

The beastmen heard quietly but didn’t move away.

"Lady Astri is happy that you all wish to help. However, not only me, but all her spouses worry about the people that will be near her. To find the best, we decided to have a tournament and all this process will be proof if you’re good enough or not."

Galion explains to them about the tournament will work and their task of building the platform in detail.

"This tournament will begin after we finish the platform?" A beastman asks. freēnovelkiss.com

"After we come back." Galion answers.

"Come back from where?"

"Lady Astri already told all of you that she’s needed somewhere else. You will have plenty of time to finish the platform and train for the fighting rounds. The strongest and smartest will win and the most trustworthy will be chosen. Lady Astri and Lord Claud will choose between you themselves. That’s what I had to tell you. I have to come back inside." Galion explains, and then he turns around to go back inside.

The beastmen looked at each other thinking the same, but not saying out loud. They have to work together before fighting for the title.

Galion goes back inside and sits down sighing.

"How was outside, Galion?" Claud asks.

"There were more people than expected. Never again tell them to look after me, Astri."

"Right." Astri chuckles.

"Let’s go back to the trip planning, please. You were about to say what might be the problem of this trip." Galion says looking at Astri.

Everyone waits for her to speak. Xzan, Dante, Shung, and his son, Yank, were there too. They wanted to know what Astri would be dealing with.

"In Aquaterra, we were expected to arrive there. So our way to the problem was easy. There we are known as just sleeping tales. So we will have to build our way up. We should expose our identities only to Monsters, because they will be killed anyway, or to very selected people. My main worry is buying a safe place for all of us." She says.

"We will bring the children?" Galion asks.

"Don’t ask what you know the answer to. Of course, they will. They’re our responsibility and my life. I won’t ask anyone to raise my children. I know it’s dangerous, but I’m more than sure you all will protect us."

"A place for all of us will be hard to find." Cyprian says, thinking deeply.

"There it is normal big houses and cabins as Nature showed me. And our gems value more. Also, salt is very expensive there. It could be our way up."

"The King is to be saved?" Tyr asks.

"No... He’s too corrupted already. He doesn’t have a way back." She answers.

"Why not just kill him and name another King?" Dieg asks.

"Politics." Beau answers.

"Exactly. We might bring a worse situation creating a war between the people. We must help the leader of the other side become the new King in a fair way." Astri nods.

"And remove the bad seeds." Claud says.

She nods.

"Basically do what was done in Great Wall City. But I wasn’t corrupted yet." Tyr mentions, and she nods again in response.

"What about the beastmen? You mentioned giants, like dragons that don’t fly and spit fire. How we will deal with this kind of beastmen without showing our powers?" Lee asks the question all her spouses are worried about.

"You don’t need to worry about that. Being smart will make our way up and will be easy to deal with them." Astri answers.

She really doesn’t seem bothered by what is worrying the others the most. All of them would have a hard time facing Galion or Cyprian without powers. Beau is the strongest in marks, but Cyprian being a dragon has the ultimate advantage as a dragon, and all of them are worried about having to rely on two beastmen to protect their family.

"All right.. Let’s list what we will need to bring and how many beastmen we need." Lee says, not very happy to leave but he knows that Astri wouldn’t leave if it wasn’t necessary.

Astri helps write the list of dry food, clothes, medicines, toys, hygiene, and things she believes are important to bring.

Lee and Tyr organize the list of soldiers that will come. Koa and Beau decide the best strategy to keep Astri and the children safe.

Dieg, Cyprian, and Zin will organize Astri’s list. Claud and Wayde will organize things for Xzan, Shung, and Dante to take over. Kangki mainly watches, he’s still learning how to be sociable with others. He’s gentle to the cubs, but he only likes to be next to Astri.

While Astri is bathing to get ready to sleep, Kangki is waiting at his own bed, knowing it’s not his turn to sleep next to her, and Claud comes inside.

"You need to learn to have more roles in the family, Kangki." Claud says.

"Why? All of you are more than enough." Kangki questions.

"All of us have duties and soon Astri’s spouses will be angry with you because you spend more time with her than us."

"I don’t care if you like me or not."

"If we start to fight each other Astri will be angry. Is that what you want?" Claud asks, and Kangki doesn’t answer. "All of us love Astri more than anything like you. I understand that you didn’t live with beastmen most of your life, but it’s time for you to stop building a wall and start doing more than following her everywhere. Astri herself is a smart female and is capable of doing everything we do. She could simply go anywhere without asking if she wanted to, but she trusts us to do everything that must be done and also respects our feelings for her. Besides, Astri doesn’t like useless things."

Kangki glares at Claud for calling him useless. Then he sighs and sits down.

"I’m scared of leaving her side..." Kangki admits.

"Why?.." Claud asks, confused, and a bit impressed because Kangki is admitting he fears something.

Kangki doesn’t answer anything.

"He fears going back to being a Monster." They hear Astri.

She listened to their conversation from the bathroom. She’s wearing clean clothes, smelling good, and feeling refreshed.

"You said you don’t look at my mind when it’s not necessary." Kangki smiles at her.

"I don’t. I just know you, love." She says walking to him, then she sits next to him.

He already lost his serious face just by the way she called him.

"You won’t turn back being a Monster just for being away from me." She says.

"There are people who saw me before when I kidnapped you. Not all of them will accept me here."

"It’s true. In the same way, not everyone will accept me too. You don’t have to deal with people, but you can learn new things and help with the knowledge you have. Our family won’t treat you badly and you won’t feel the same way you did in the past before you decided to isolate yourself and become a Monster. And if outsiders treat you badly I’ll kick their asses."

He chuckles. She holds his hand.

"Talk to Zin. He also had to learn to trust others and be more sociable. What I can tell you is that you shouldn’t worry. There’s no way of you going back to being a Monster. Can you understand?" She says.

He nods.

"All right.. I’ll trust you. I don’t want to lose you.. Ever."

"You won’t. I promise. Even if the Monster Emperor tries to make you a Monster again. He might be older than us and knows how to use all extensions of his powers compared to me, but the fact is that he could never corrupt Nature itself. And you are connected to Nature through me. I don’t become a Monster, so do you."

After hearing that he became lighter.

"I feared because there were feelings, bad feelings, that I still have from when I was a Monster. I feared that having any bad feeling inside of me could become a seed for evil and that would take me away from you."

"You know that beastmen have bad feelings inside of them even if they aren’t Monsters. There’s no such thing as someone without a bad side. Everyone has a bad side." Claud says.

"Yes, but they don’t think it’s easier to simply kill whoever is bothering them all the time. I’m jealous of Astri, and constantly thinking that it would be so much easier killing all of you. It would be so much easier if I took her far away."

Claud chuckles.

"I think about that sometimes too. I wish to kill any unmated male that gets near her. I got used to her other mates, but unmated males I really wanted to keep away. It angers me seeing Xzan and Dante’s minds since they want her as spouse." Claud tells.

"Really?"

"Yes. Don’t worry. These feelings you’re having are normal feelings any male have, especially towards their spouse."

Kangki smiles and looks at Astri again. She blinks an eye at him and kisses his lips tenderly.

"You will be fine."
