Will of a Prince
Chapter 145: Powers That Rival Gods
Squabee and Sarah walked peacefully towards the gate next to each other. As they walked, they studied the quiet shops around them.
"This is such a nice place. Should we visit some shops before we do this training thing? How exactly are we going to do this?"
Sarah rubbed her chin.
"I’m not too sure to be honest. I was hoping you would know what to do."
Squabee sighed and rubbed her face.
"This is going to be impossible. Why couldn’t one of the power users help us out?!"
"Because they all need to go to school. You hardly lucked out of that obligation yourself."
"Maybe you’re right."
The closer they got to the gate, the more lively the town became. It looked like some towns people were out cleaning the area around their shop to make it look as attractive as possible. One of the shop keepers tried waving them over.
"Hey! You two! How about you try some of the kingdoms best charms in town?! I’ll even cut you a good deal!"
The person waving was wearing so much clothing it was hard to tell if a person was hiding under all those clothes. All they could see were two glowing yellow eyes through a dark hood covering its face. The person also had long, thick robes with a myriad of colors on its surface. The patterns themselves looked alien to them. Squabee looked at Sarah.
"I don’t really know who that is, but they sure as heck look like the best enchanter in town. Should we visit them after this?"
Sarah studied the person a little more carefully before walking over to greet them. The person seemed to be a bit shocked that their calling actually worked and started frantically preparing their arrival by tidying the front of their broken shop as much as possible. Sarah studied the person and their shop with interest. On the top, there was a sign that read:
Suber Charms!
’... he spelled super wrong.’
"Hey there, young lady! Would you like to come inside and look at the best charms in town?!"
"No. I simply wanted to check out the shop, that’s all."
"Well, if you don’t want charms that’s fine! Make sure to tell your friends about me! I’m always here!"
"Do you have any charms that help detect the nature of a person’s power?"
The enchanter looked at her strangely.
"You mean a simple identification charm?"
"Well, maybe. I’m not sure how charms work exactly."
The person seemed to be lost in thought.
"By power, do you mean a Zalo?"
"Yes, that’s what I mean!"
"I see. I thought you meant a charm to tell how powerful someone is! I can make a charm for you like that no problem!"
Excitement filled Sarah’s heart.
"Can you really?! That would be great!"
"Just give me a couple hours and I’ll have it made for you. You can come and purchase it whenever you want!"
"Thank you so much! We’ll be back!"
Sarah walked back to Squabee with a bright smile on her face.
"What did you talk to him about?"
Sarah smirked.
"I may have cheated the system a bit to help us. We’re coming back here later today after this in case we don’t figure stuff out."
Squabee smirked as well.
"I like the way you think, Sarah. Me and you are going to get along great."
After they finally made it to the gate, the guards stopped them before they could leave.
"Halt. Why are you leaving the kingdom? Weren’t you apart of the group the other day who settled down here?"
Sarah jumped on Squabee’s back, causing her to stumble forward.
"Ow! What the hell is-"
Sarah slapped the back of her head.
"I have to teach my daughter a lesson. I caught her cheating on her boyfriend, so she has to run around kingdom every time I catch her doing it. I’m terribly sorry."
The guard stifled a laugh looking at Squabee.
"Ma’am, that’s a genius idea. Just make sure to get her back before sundown."
Squabee looked extremely angry and started walking forward with Sarah on her back.
"Thank you! We will be back!"
Once they were far enough away from the kingdom, Squabee threw Sarah off.
"I take it back. We’ll never get along."
Sarah bowed her head.
"I’m sorry. I panicked and it just came out."
"Whatever."
After gaining a bit more distance, they looked at each other.
"So... how exactly are we supposed to do this?"
Squabee held up her hands at Sarah.
"FIRE BALL DESTURCTION!!!"
Sarah flinched, expecting something to happen. When there was nothing that came out of her hands, Squabee put her arms back down.
"Welp, that isn’t it."
"Hey! I could have just been annihilated! Are you crazy?!"
"Maybe a little bit. Let me try something else."
Squabee held her hands to the sky.
"Turn nighttime!"
Nothing happened. Squabee laid on the ground helplessly.
"This is impossible! We’ll never figure this out!"
"Maybe we should try fighting each other?"
"What?! How will that help anything?!"
"Maybe our powers only come out in combat. Also, both of us are probably the least experienced when it comes to fighting. We could both use the practice."
"Ugh. Okay, let’s do it. Just make sure to pull your punches please."
"You got it. Here I come!"
Sarah ran towards Squabee and lightly threw a fist aimed at her shoulder. However, just before her fist connected, she tripped over a small patch of grass and fell on her face.
"Ow. My fault. Let me try again."
Squabee stood still, preparing herself for the strike. Sarah threw a light kick aimed at her torso this time. However, right before the kick collided, a massive bird happened to swoop in and take the full brunt of the attack. Sarah stumbled backwards in shock.
"What the hell?! How are you doing that?!"
Squabee was still looking at her confused.
"Doing what? I’m not doing anything right now."
Sarah stood back up and dusted herself off.
"Okay, let’s just have you attack me instead. Maybe that will help."
"Okay!"
Squabee walked over and threw a fist at Sarah’s shoulder. Sarah prepared herself and closed her eyes. While they were still closed, she anxiously waited for Squabee to hit her.
"Just do it! I’m ready!"
There was a silence for three moments.
"Uh... Sarah?"
"I know, I’m scared. Just... try not to hit me too hard!"
"Sarah."
"What is it?"
"Open your eyes."
As Sarah opened her eyes, she was almost face to face with Squabee. Squabee’s arm was already reached out at Sarah’s shoulder. However...
"... what the hell is happening?"
Instead of being stopped by her shoulder, Squabee’s fist was sent completely through it, but there wasn’t any blood to be seen. It was as if her shoulder was just an illusionary image that allowed Squabee’s hand to pass through. She pulled her hand back and looked at it.
"Wait... was this from me or you? Did my hand pass through your shoulder or did your shoulder allow my hand to pass through it?"
A small instinct rose within Sarah’s being.
"Wait, I think I feel something."
She bent down towards the grass and tried to pick it up with her hand. Instead of grabbing the grass, her arm fell completely through the ground. In a panic, she suppressed the strange feeling in her, but when she did...
"Squabee, I think I’m stuck!"
"How the hell did you get stuck picking up grass?!"
"My arm... I think I solidified it in the ground."
Her power had finally been revealed to her by accident. Sarah had the power of complete intangibility.
