The Female CEO Falls in Love with Me
Chapter 1029 - 275: Three Faces, Uninvited Guests
"We’ll talk about whether I’m bragging or not later. I have to go now. Do you want to bring the other colleagues along? If not, I’ll just let Qiao Pan advance the money and reimburse me." Li Yan was tired of going back and forth with her. Who’s the boss here!
"Of course we’re going. Why wouldn’t we? We want to take a bit back too!"
Jiang Xueyin also participated in work today, noticing everyone pitching in, and now’s the time to boost morale and get everyone involved without dampening enthusiasm. If she doesn’t supervise, Qiao Pan might claim more expenses.
Her childish sulking made Li Yan unsure whether to laugh or cry.
...
Li Yan walked out, glancing around, but didn’t see traces of Wen Qianyi or Yu Xiaodi. He took out his phone and dialed Wen Qianyi’s number.
But Wen Qianyi directly declined his call, and just as he was about to try again, he received a text message: "I’m already gone. Don’t call me; I saw Xiaodi there, and I don’t want her misunderstanding."
Li Yan broke into a sweat; if she had just left, perhaps he could catch up, but since she saw Yu Xiaodi and deliberately avoided him, she definitely wouldn’t see him now.
At this moment, he had already walked out of the cinema, searching for Yu Xiaodi’s figure while dialing her number.
Before the call connected, his eyes narrowed slightly. With sharp instincts and experience, he noticed at least three people outside the cinema watching him!
His gaze casually searched for Yu Xiaodi but quickly locked onto the three observers. These three were clearly not ordinary people, each standing sharp and firm, averting their gaze naturally when his eyes swept over.
Another one!
And this one was already walking towards him.
"Uncle, are you done yet? I’m still holding the flowers I meant for you, feeling too embarrassed to wait in crowded places like a star-struck fan of a celebrity..." As soon as the call connected, Yu Xiaodi started complaining, probably waiting nearby.
"A celebrity was supposed to take me out for dinner, but I turned down all appointments." Li Yan laughed, seeing the man get closer, adding, "But now something’s come up. Wait for me a moment longer, I’ll call you when I’m free."
"Really? But I already saw you come out..." Yu Xiaodi was sitting in a nearby café, having picked a spot from where she could see the cinema entrance. She had just seen Li Yan, and even if he hadn’t called her, she would have called. But before she finished speaking, a man walked up to Li Yan and seemed to say something.
He indeed hadn’t gone to a social event with a celebrity or with other colleagues, so Yu Xiaodi took this as an unexpected situation. Since he said so, she wouldn’t disturb him. "Oh... I got it. You go ahead, call me when you’re done."
"If I don’t call you back in ten minutes, just head home first!" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Hearing this, Yu Xiaodi felt a bit disappointed. She’d come all the way from home for the premiere to surprise him. Unexpectedly, she couldn’t surprise him with flowers on stage, and now even after the movie and his work were done, they couldn’t meet. He even said if there’s no call in ten minutes, she should go home, and he wouldn’t come out again, nor would he likely show up at her place.
"Okay," Xiaodi still agreed with a smile. She trusted that Li Yan had his reasons; she didn’t want him to worry.
After finishing the call, Li Yan turned to the man before him, a robust male in his thirties who had walked straight over and, seeing Li Yan on the phone, refrained from interrupting.
But Li Yan clearly felt that the three observers’ focus sharpened, as if preparing to act as the man stood in front of him.
These people weren’t ordinary, clearly backed by someone extraordinary. Li Yan had recently faced troubles, and if anyone had the means to retaliate, it was Liu Yuyang. Li Yan had dealt with Liu Yuyang, but there was still Liu’s family. Liu Yuyang’s father was Zhang Tianyi’s business colleague, with a considerable family business, and surely didn’t believe his son committed suicide over embezzlement. Though they couldn’t deduce exactly, uncovering the relationship between Li Yan and Liu Yuyang wouldn’t be too hard.
"Are you Li Yan?" the robust man asked directly.
Waiting for Li Yan to finish his call before speaking seemed courteous, but his tone naturally slipped into the authoritative, lacking the politeness of a ’please’ or ’sir’.
Li Yan furrowed his brow, seemingly bothered by the tone: "I am. You are...?"
"We need to discuss something with you. Please cooperate!" The robust man said, motioning for a prepared car to pull up right outside the cinema. "Please!"
"Who are you? Why should I cooperate with you?" Li Yan pretended not to notice the others.
The man’s brow twitched, but he patiently explained, "It’s inconvenient to talk here. It’s not something succinct; you’ll understand once there. I can assure you we just want to discuss a matter, no ill intentions."
Li Yan smirked internally: No ill intentions now, but after the discussion, the intentions might turn sinister!
Yet, he remained unfazed, revealing nothing. Even if Liu Yuyang had recent friction with him, it only pointed to Liu Yuyang’s motive. As long as Liu Yuyang hadn’t acted first, Li Yan had no motive, nor could anyone prove anything.
"Alright, hopefully it’s not far, not too long. I’m quite busy!" Li Yan said, getting into the car, but as he did, he suddenly thought of a person—a loophole perhaps? (To be continued. For more, visit www.qidian.com, support the author, support legitimate reading!)
