What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?-Chapter 507: Are There Machines In Other Planes?
So… Remember how there were a lot of android bouncers in the club?
At first I thought it might be a little excessive to have that many bouncers walking around the club but I realised that their numbers were actually a necessity.
Some of the patrons had drank a little bit too much and they started looking for trouble or stirring up trouble themselves.
But those android bouncers were quite well programmed as they immediately leapt into breaking them up before it could escalate.
One particular instance was a patron getting angry at another hitting on their partner and tried to get into a fight.
One of the android bouncers immediately jumped in and intercepted the punch before it could be thrown and forced them to stand down.
There was also another group of troublemakers who seemed to just be looking for trouble as they were already trying to fight other patrons for no reason.
When the android bouncers came in to block them, they tried to fight them too.
I got to see one android bouncer take on three humans each and they absolutely manhandled them and knocked them down without much effort.
Their movements were extremely smooth and fluid where one of the androids even bent himself backwards at the waist at a perfect ninety degree angle, all just to avoid one of the troublemakers throwing a kick at him.
The android then snapped back into position to knock his attacker on the back of his head to send him sprawling onto the ground and knocked out cold.
They were so efficient at handling those conflicts that there were absolutely no disruptions made to the club nor did it affect any other patrons and everyone else just continued their own activities like nothing happened.
Listening to some people talking nearby though, I learned that this was a common occurrence as there were some people who just aren't happy that this club had androids while others just wanted to look for trouble with robots so they came here.
But all of them were handled quite professionally by the club's security team so nothing happened.
Damn, Ragbar wasn't kidding about them being really good at their job.
Hmm… Maybe I could get one or two for myself as a guard for the ship?
I mean… Ries already has those drones but you know… It might be nice to have some human shaped robots around the ship too.
And looking at the price… They're actually not really that expensive as the average price seemed to be around the fifty thousand Credits range.
Though if you want more upgrades or functions, it would of course cost more than that.
I guess I might as well discuss this with the girls and see what they think.
Who knows? Maybe Ries might tell me that she could build one herself.
Just as I was considering messaging the girls to ask what they were doing to see if they wanted to join me at the club, a disembodied voice came from somewhere without warning.
"Those… Are not… Organic?"
It took me a moment to realise that it came from my ring.
Huh… And here I was just thinking that it had been a while since it spoke…
The first difference I noticed was that it no longer sounded like nails scratching on a chalkboard but more like someone speaking through a voice modulator.
I looked down at the ring, "Are you talking about those androids?"
"Yes… Very… Interesting…"
"Hmm… I guess it is kind of interesting for someone who has never seen it before. But I'm surprised you even took an interest in it."
"They have a… Familiar feeling to them… Like we have seen them… Somewhere before…"
"You've seen them before? Is this maybe from the place that you came from?"
"We… Do not know… It just feels… Familiar…"
Hmm… Maybe one of their 'hosts' has seen them before or maybe they were stuck in the machines for so long that the machines feel familiar?
"There's a slight… Difference… The ones we remember… Are darker and more… Angry…"
"A machine being angry? Is that even possible?"
"Yes… We remember… There was pain… And a lot of suffering… Amongst them…"
"Pain? Suffering? You're still talking about the machines right?"
"Correct… That is why… We believe there's a difference… Though we are unsure as to what it is…"
Interesting… Maybe there is some kind of eldritch machine entity or something?
Wait…
"You're not confusing people with cybernetic implants for them are you?" I asked.
There was a slight pause from the ring before it answered, "That might have… Been a possibility…"
Right… That's what I thought.
"So is that why you were interested in them?"
"Partly so… But their bodies are… What interests us…"
"Their bodies?"
"Yes… It feels… Homely…"
I don't even know what kind of description is that.
Like who calls an android's body homely?
Before I could ask what it really meant, someone slid into the seat beside me.
I thought it was just another random patron until they spoke, "Ahhh… I'm beat… Jack, get me some soda please…"
I turned to see Valiea seated beside me in the midst of stretching all four of her arms above her head.
As though reading my mind, she grinned at me, "I'm on my break now, Tera. I was going to go to the back but I saw you sitting here alone so I thought you might want some company."
"Is it alright for you to be seen with me though?" I asked, looking around to see if there was anyone who was looking in our direction.
"It's fine. There's a rule here that people aren't allowed to approach me in the club during working hours so you don't need to worry. In fact, I'm surprised that you're alone. Hasn't anyone tried to approach you at all?"
"Err… There were a group of guys at first but they got a little violent so your bouncers took care of them. Aside from them, no one else came to talk to me."
"Hmm… They must have been intimidated by you then."
Intimidated? It wasn't even me who took care of those guys though… Oh wait, I did punch that guy hard enough to make him collapse on the floor… So maybe that was why.
The bartender at the bar we were seated at returned and placed a glass of bubbly green liquid in front of Valiea.
She immediately picked it up and gulped down half of it in one go before letting out a sigh of content.
"Ah… That hits the spot… Oh? What do you have there, Tera?" She asked, looking pointedly at the glass I had in my hand.
"Oh this? Well… Your husband said that I could have the first drink on the house so I just tried to make something myself. I hope that's ok?"
"Of course. But… Do you mind if I try it?"
"Hmm? Sure, I don't mind."
I slid the glass over to her and she picked up the glass before bringing it to her lips to take a sip.
She froze before she gulped down another mouthful of it and I figured she would just drink the entire glass if I didn't stop her and since she was still on the clock, it wouldn't be a good idea for her to be drunk.
That's why I quickly leaned forward and pulled the glass away from her, the four armed bartender letting out a distressed groan when I did so.
"Nngghh… I don't understand how you do it Tera… I used to think that I was really good at making drinks taste good and pride myself in it… Yet you're able to make drinks I never thought possible…"
Well… Sorry but it's all because of a perk I have…
I tried to change the topic, "Speaking of which… I never really asked this before but… How did you get those four arms? Are they some kind of Gene mod?"
Her mood quickly changed as she showed off her four arms proudly, "Of course they're Gene mods! You don't think I was actually born with four arms right?"
"Well… I've seen weirder things so I can't be too sure…"
"Fair enough, but yes, I modded myself to have four arms."
"I'm surprised Ragbar didn't do the same then…"
"Mmm… Well, first of all, this is a pretty expensive mod by itself. Second of all, it takes quite long before you can even get used to using the extra arms naturally without having to keep fumbling or thinking about what you're doing all the time. It might seem convenient but this is like trying to learn to walk again after losing your legs and getting new legs."
"Huh… How long did you take to learn how to use them then?"
"To go back to being able to use them reliably without looking like an idiot? Three years."
Well… I can see why people don't just stick an extra pair of arms on themselves despite how convenient it might be I guess…
Anyway, I doubt I would want an extra pair of arms.
They're cool and all but I think I'd look too freaky with them, no offense Valiea.
I'm happy with what I have right now.
Still… I wonder what was that interaction I had with the ring just now?
