2797 Placing Traps

In the quiet dark, Lin Mu pulled out one of the large array disks—each a meter wide and covered in a thousand explosive talismans.

He placed ten of them in a circular pattern, then connected them using his Rune Shaping Brush, weaving lines of power like a spider spinning its final, deadly trap.

And just like that, a large-scale demolition array was born.

Lin Mu went from church to church, cathedral to cathedral, placing the large-scale demolition arrays with practiced precision. He planted a single large-scale array under each church, while placing four beneath each of the larger cathedrals.

There were over three hundred such buildings in the capital city, far more than he could cover completely.

As such, Lin Mu placed the arrays strategically, positioning them in locations that would cause maximum disruption and force the Order to spread itself thin. The detonation sequence of each array could also be customized—some could explode simultaneously, others in a timed cascade, creating chaos and confusion.

Overall, Lin Mu managed to cover about a hundred key buildings, and even after that, he still had a lot of arrays left.

But those were never meant for the churches and cathedrals.

They were intended for two much more important targets: the Inquisitor Fortress and the Holy See.

Lin Mu had a total of over three hundred large-scale demolition arrays. One hundred had been used under the churches. Eighty more were placed under twenty of the cathedrals—four each. That left him with one hundred and twenty arrays.

These remaining arrays were split between the Inquisitor Fortress and the Holy See. While the Fortress was relatively easy to infiltrate and rig from below, the Holy See required significantly more effort.

The Holy See's defensive arrays extended nearly a hundred meters beneath the surface. That much depth was enough to dampen the effect of even his powerful talismanic constructs.

Not to mention, it was teeming with patrols and spiritual sensors that forced Lin Mu to work with extreme caution.

He took nearly ten hours just to complete the work under the Holy See.

Eighty large-scale demolition arrays were spread beneath it, placed to target the buildings with the highest concentrations of people. Administrative halls, dormitories, training chambers, and prayer sanctuaries—none were spared.

All in all, it took Lin Mu a full day to complete his mission while the surface world remained blissfully unaware of the trap he had just laid.

He returned to the lodge late that night, where Daoist Chu awaited him with yet more arrays.

"Here you go," Daoist Chu said, handing over a neatly packed spatial storage ring.

"Oh, there's more than I expected," Lin Mu said after checking the contents.

"We managed to finish eighty-five. That's fifteen more than we originally planned," Daoist Chu said with a nod. "The others pulled out all the stops to rush the final batch."

"That's good. These will serve as additional insurance," Lin Mu replied, storing the ring away.

"Not heading out to plant them right away?" Daoist Chu asked, raising a brow.

"I've already covered the major targets. These will be used for cover and containment," Lin Mu explained.

"Ah, to stop reinforcements from reaching us," Daoist Chu said knowingly. He was beginning to read Lin Mu like an open scroll.

"Yes," Lin Mu confirmed with a nod.

"So, I suppose it's time to act?" Daoist Chu asked, his expression shifting to one of anticipation.

"Not just yet," Lin Mu replied, surprising him.

"Let everyone have a good night's rest. But make sure they're ready to move at a moment's notice. If the Order acts first, we retaliate immediately. If not, we follow the plan and begin at dawn."

"That's probably for the best," Daoist Chu agreed. "They need the rest. Most of them aren't used to this kind of intense work, especially not without breaks. They haven't gone through the same hardships we've faced."

"And they're not as strong either," Lin Mu added thoughtfully.

"Individually, maybe not. But together? They'll be more than capable," Daoist Chu said with confidence.

Between all the travelers and cultivators they had made contact with in the city, they had over five hundred allies.

A significant number, considering that each one was a capable fighter.

Among the five hundred, around three hundred were at the Third Tribulation Stage of the Immortal Realm. Another hundred and eighty had reached the Fourth Tribulation Stage, and the final twenty were elite cultivators at the Fifth Tribulation Stage.

This was exactly why the Order had been so strict with them.

They understood that if these cultivators ever chose to resist, the consequences would be devastating. While the Order would eventually be able to suppress them through sheer numbers and resources, the cost of doing so would be astronomical.

Now, Lin Mu intended to do exactly that—and far more than the Order had ever feared.

"Will we be able to get all of them through the teleportation array in time?" Daoist Chu asked, a trace of concern in his voice.

"From what I've seen, the teleportation array's maximum safe capacity is about a hundred people at once," Lin Mu replied.

"Hmm… a hundred per batch. That means at least four groups to the nearest safe world. Assuming we overload the array slightly, that should take about thirty minutes total," Daoist Chu calculated aloud.

"That part's the easy one. What will take longer is getting us out. Our destination is farther away."

"Right. So at least an hour to fully evacuate our core team," Daoist Chu mused. "Assuming we aren't interrupted."

"Do you have the resources to set up a defensive cordon like you did before?" Lin Mu asked.

"I do. I can deploy it in under a minute if needed," Daoist Chu replied confidently.

"Good. Then I'll be counting on you," Lin Mu said with a nod.

"Very well," Daoist Chu responded, his voice calm and steady.

With their immediate plans settled, the two men sat down to meditate. They focused on restoring their energy and calming their minds in preparation for what was to come.
