Chapter 70 - 70: Helix Rising

The concrete corridors of the Genitech facility shook violently as a figure clad in white—Helix soldiers—slowly advanced toward Ethan and his team. From a distance, faint blue psionic energy surged through their bodies like currents of live electricity.

"Fall back to the control room!" Kael shouted, pulling Mei and Liana.

Ethan remained at the front line, his virtual energy sword glowing brightly in his right hand.

"We can't run anymore," he said. "They'll keep hunting us wherever we go."

Mei looked at him, fear clear on her face. But she knew Ethan was right.

"We fight."

The Clash Begins

The Helix soldiers moved swiftly—too fast for ordinary humans. Their bodies ricocheted off the walls, sliding across the floor like ghosts.

Kael fired energy bullets, but they were instantly deflected by a thin psionic shield that covered their bodies.

Liana activated a distortion field to slow them down, creating a small opening for Ethan to strike.

"Let's see how well natural humans fare against machines," Ethan muttered.

With a battle cry, he dashed forward, his sword slicing through the air.

Ethan's New Power

Amid the fight, Ethan felt something rise within him—an energy he had never accessed before. The Nexus might have been destroyed, but the remnants of its psionic legacy still lingered in his blood.

His eyes gleamed silver, his body surrounded by a pure white aura. Each of his movements now matched not just human speed but the speed of thought.

One slash. Two. Three.

The Helix soldiers began to retreat, some of them stumbling back for the first time.

"We can win," Mei said, her eyes bright with hope.

"Not yet," Ethan replied curtly. He knew this was just the beginning.

The Facility's Destruction

A thunderous roar echoed from above. The top of the Genitech facility began to collapse, likely part of an automatic destruction protocol triggered by Helix's arrival.

"This place is coming down!" Kael shouted. "We need to get out now!"

Liana typed rapidly on a terminal. "I've downloaded all the important data. We can leave anytime!"

Ethan blocked the final strikes from two Helix soldiers before giving the signal.

"Let's go!"

They sprinted toward the side door, leaping over debris and dodging falling, fiery concrete.

Behind them, the Genitech facility crumbled with a deafening crash, leaving a massive crater in the mountainside.

A Changed World

Hours later, they gathered in a remote cabin at the foot of the mountains.

Kael played the data they had collected. On the holographic screen, a chilling image appeared—a world map, with red dots spreading slowly.

"What is that?" Mei asked, her voice trembling.

"That..." Kael swallowed hard, "are locations worldwide... where Helix has already become active."

Liana pointed to several dots that blinked faster.

"They've infected communication networks, power grids, even military weapons. Slowly... this world will belong to them."

Ethan clenched his fists.

"Not if we stop them first."

A New Plan

Under the moonlight, Ethan stood outside the cabin, gazing at the stars that appeared colder than usual that night.

Mei approached, standing beside him.

"Are you sure we can fight them?"

Ethan turned slowly, his eyes shining with determination.

"I'm no longer part of Nexus. But I'm still a Pioneer."

"If this world changes because of technology," he continued, "then we'll change too. We'll fight fire with fire."

He raised the Nexus data chip he still carried.

"We'll rise. With the new legacy."

Chapter Closing

The night wind howled, carrying the scent of change.

In the distance, among the mountain forests, figures began to emerge—the hunters, remnants of humans who had been altered by Helix.

A new war was about to begin. And this time, the stakes... were the entire world.
