Ms. Yang watched as a young couple approached, her brows knitted slightly in confusion. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
She had been sitting here all day, undisturbed. She figured this must be a reserved seating area.
"Hello, excuse me, are you still eating?"
Xu Boyan was about to speak, but Lu Qingyi beat him to it, asking politely.
"I am waiting for someone."
Ms. Yang looked up at Lu Qingyi and replied slowly.
It was getting late, and Lu Zhizhou still had not returned.
"Could you please scoot over a bit? My husband and I were hoping to sit here and eat."
Lu Qingyi spoke politely, noting that the space Zhizhou had left was ample enough, even leaving a single seat on the inside.
"There are plenty of seats over there."
Ms. Yang didn’t budge, she lifted her chin to gesture at the seats below, speaking slowly.
The restaurant had started to empty, leaving many free seats available.
Ms. Yang remained motionless, her demeanor radiating arrogance, showing no intention of giving up her seat.
Lu Qingyi: "I prefer a quiet spot."
Their attire was casual; you couldn’t tell what brand their clothes were.
"What a coincidence, so do I."
Ms. Yang didn’t intend to give up her seat, not even slightly.
Just as Xu Boyan was about to speak, Lu Qingyi squeezed his hand.
He didn’t need to get involved in this women’s affairs.
"I’m not asking you to leave. Just move aside a little. We will leave as soon as we’re done eating."
Lu Qingyi suppressed her temper and spoke slowly.
Despite the abundance of vacant spaces below, she was so used to this spot that she didn’t want to relocate.
"First come, first served." Pouring herself a cup of tea, Ms. Yang added, "Besides, this spot is not available to customers."
She had made her observations. When she first arrived, the place was crowded but this spot was vacant. Even after Zhizhou left, despite the lack of seats below, no one else came to share it.
Thus, Ms. Yang was certain that this spot was intentionally left vacant by the owner.
"I am the mother of the owner, and I claim this spot. Looking at your young age and pregnant state, I presume you are not a friend of Zhuozhou."
Ms. Yang swallowed her drink, contempt marked in her eyes.
Lu Qingyi appeared no older than seventeen, not even at the legal age for marriage, but was already pregnant and calling her man ’husband’, clearly indicating that she was not a good girl.
Zhizhou is exceptional, and exceptional people tend to keep company with other exceptional individuals. Therefore, Ms. Yang was certain that Lu Qingyi has no connections with Zhizhou.
How interesting, she’s looking down on me.
"Watch your words."
Xu Boyan frowned. His tone was chilly.
"Yiyi, what are you doing standing here?"
Upon entering her shop, Lu Zhizhou saw Lu Qingyi and Xu Boyan standing, but hadn’t noticed that Ms. Yang hadn’t left yet because of the obstructed view.
A small smile formed on her face.
"Sister."
Turning around, a smile appeared on Lu Qingyi’s face.
Sister?
Ms. Yang furrowed her brows as she stood up, "Zhuozhou, how do you know such a person?"
Her words held a tone of reproach, completely ignoring that her own position was not in favor.
"Why are you still here?"
Upon seeing Ms. Yang, Lu Zhizhou’s tone immediately cooled. Faced with the person who had once abandoned her, she struggled to show warmth.
Ms. Yang: "I was waiting for you."
"Please move."
Lu Zhizhou looked coldly at Ms. Yang.
"Yiyi, don’t tire yourself out, have a seat."
Next, Lu Zhizhou pulled out a chair for Lu Qingyi to sit on.
Pregnant, Lu Qingyi shouldn’t be standing around. Sitting would be more comfortable.
The contrast in her stance towards the two women was stark.
"Have you thought it over?"
Ms. Yang furrowed her brows slightly and spoke slowly, her gaze towards Lu Zhizhou carrying a gentleness.
"Should I know you?"
The temperature in Lu Zhizhou’s voice was icy.
"But I’m...I’m your mother."
These words seemed to choke Ms. Yang.
She had been married to Ye Yunsan for many years, who had always treated her well. She was the regal lady of the Ye family yet had been unable to bear him a child.
Medical checks revealed the problem lay with Mr. Ye.
Recognizing that the Ye family needed an heir, Ms. Yang had turned to her own long-abandoned daughter. Since moving abroad, she had cut off all ties with Kyoto, only recently learning she had such an outstanding daughter.
And so, she returned home to find Lu Zhizhou.
"I, Lu Zhizhou, have been without a mother since birth. Please do not arbitrarily claim kinship."
The coldness in Lu Zhizhou’s voice was palpable.
Lowering her gaze, Lu Qingyi had already pieced together most of the story.
"You carry my blood. Look at you, the young lady of the prestigious Lu family, busy running this kind of business and exhausting yourself every day. I am just trying to welcome you back to the life a spoiled young heiress should have. You won’t need to lift a finger, everything will be done for you."
Ms. Yang’s words all echoed a feigned concern for the well-being of Lu Zhizhou.
The heir of the Lu family was not Lu Mojing, but Lu Mohai. Having a daughter of his own means the title would naturally not pass down to Lu Zhizhou.
"Did you misunderstand something?"
Lu Zhizhou frowned at Ms. Yang, her statements revealing the type of person she was.
Her initial interaction with Ms. Yang gave the impression of a good personality, but that quickly proved to be deceiving.
"What are you doing here?"
Lu Mojing made his appearance in the shop soon after and promptly escorted Ms. Yang out without a word.
He had never seen their divorce as a big deal; he did not love Ms. Yang and the divorce was amicable. However, Ms. Yang had promised not to return and not to seek out Lu Zhizhou.
An unsuspecting Lu Zhizhou had believed that Lu Mojing loved Ms. Yang deeply and hence never remarried. In reality, he couldn’t find a suitable partner — one who would treat Lu Zhizhou well. He didn’t want to ruin her childhood, so he chose not to remarry.
"Sister, what happened?"
With Ms. Yang being ushered away by Lu Mojing, Lu Qingyi asked Lu Zhizhou, full of concern.
"Yiyi, I have just learned that I was abandoned..."
Lu Zhizhou didn’t withhold anything from Lu Qingyi, recounting all that Lu Mojing had disclosed.
But it didn’t really affect Lu Zhizhou; she didn’t feel particularly upset, just not in a particularly good mood.
"It’s okay, your dad is very good to you."
Lu Qingyi reached out and held Lu Zhizhou’s hand, speaking softly.
Lu Mojing indeed loved Lu Zhizhou very much and treated her well. He merely had a misguided understanding of what constituted "good".
For instance, he was insistent on marrying Lu Zhizhou into a wealthier and more influential family than the Lu’s.
