Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 130: A new target
Chapter 130: A new target
Edna lifted a pile of newly washed plates out of the lavatory then headed with them to the racks where they could drip and dry.
Kneeling down, she began to hurriedly stack the dishes one by one, doing her best to be done with the task as fast as humanly possible in order to run towards the water tanks and slip the potion in Silas’ water before his return.
The end of her shift was nigh as only a few plates kept her from running along.
However, right when the blonde had been about to settle the last piece of porcelain, a voice that hadn’t resonated around the kitchens in a while reached her ears.
"Yes, they went for a horseback ride trial," Ada affirmed.
She pressed on the words as though reaffirming something that had already been said before.
"Oh wow! He really fancies her, doesn’t he?" Cassandra threw her eyes around, looking amused.
"And what if he does?" Estrid’s sharp tone cut through the giggling of the others, "it is none of our business, isn’t it now? Focus on your jobs. That’ll serve you better,"
But despite Estrid’s advice, the rest of the maids seemed more interested in gossiping about their Master than the tasks at hand.
"Well, at least she seems like she deserves the royal treatment," a shorter young woman spoke up, "From the way you talk about her, I mean,"
"Oh yes! She absolutely does!" Ada’s smile reached her ears as she nodded profusely.
The blood in Edna’s veins bubbled to its boiling point. Without ever looking their way, she shoved the last plate in its designated spot then practically ran out of the kitchens.
"She sounds like she deserves the royal treatment" they said.
"He fancies her" they said.
Such nonsense! Edna vowed to show all of them what was what once she’d claimed her rightful place by his side.
Underneath her apron, her hands shook with rage, clutching at the small vial tightly.
Up and down, she tossed the matter around, debating whether to go through with it or not. On one hand, Lauden was right. It’d be a sacrifice for their greater good, one step closer to their aspirations and goals, but on the other, fear consumed her.
After all, the target was Silas. What if any harm was to come to him? She would make Dragomir and Sterling pay for it. That was a given, but what if the damage was too serious to undo?
It’d be a tragedy!
The potion was meant to disorient him and make him complacent enough to take Arabella along on their next outing.
However, yet another thought crossed her mind. That of turning Silas complacent to her.
He’d bend to her every whim and with that, casting Arabella to the side would come easy.
While moving through the hallways, Edna floated in her own bubble until something outside caught her eyes.
Behind one of the windows, in the distance, a shape became distinguishable. The maid strained her eyes until the image cleared up in her mind.
Galloping under the bright, new moon was a northern horse, upon which sat two figures. Two familiar figures...
Edna watched from afar as Silas held Arabella close to him. His hands weren’t perfectly visible from where she stood, but they were on her body, null doubt.
She was convinced he fondled that harlot good. From that angle, she gave him an exquisite view of her breasts.
Arabella was very aware of her strengths and played her cards well with them.
Edna flung her eyes down at her own body before staring back through the window again.
That was her place! She had so much more to give than just her flesh!
It wasn’t fair! It wasn’t...
"Edna, is that right?" the feminine voice wretched her out from her pondering.
After a jolt, Edna straightened up and spun around to meet the speaker who was none other than Katherine.
That same wretched bitch that stood in her way before!
"Yes," the maid glared at her, giving her best attempt at passiveness.
"Your shift is over. Where might you be heading then?" Katherine’s tone stern, she glared back at the maid without a hint of warmth.
"I thought I’d walk around a bit," she muttered, but beneath the fabric of her apron, Edna squeezed a little tighter around the flask.
"Is that so?" the vampire did not seem satisfied. With one eyebrow raised, she continued, "What is it that links you with Arabella?"
"Absolutely nothing!" Edna snapped but then simmered down when realizing her reaction was excessive.
"Why were you chastising her the last time I found you two together then?" Katherine crossed her arms, "What is it you have against her?"
"Again, nothing!" Edna pressed on every letter, her gaze darkening with each syllable.
In response, Katherine unfolded her arms and took a few steps towards Edna which prompted the latter to step back, "See... I don’t believe you, Edna," she shook her head slowly.
"I fail to see how that is my problem to solve,"
"I am not asking you to solve anything," her eyes narrowed the further she spoke, "I understand that you were once in her shoes, but those days are over. Whatever it is you think you’re entitled to, do yourself a favor and get it out of your head before somebody gets hurt,"
"I don’t know what you mean," Edna wanted her words confident, but the hiss that followed her utterances betrayed her.
"Well, you better!" Katherine opened her eyes wide and leaned forward threateningly, "Because if you do cross the line with the Master or Arabella then believe me when I say, you won’t be spared,"
And with that, Katherine spun on her heels and left Edna rooted to her spot. Fuming, steaming, seething... All were still an understatement to describe the state in which she left the maid in.
In the wake of the fire Katherine had set, mingled with the cinder and smoke was born a new idea.
The potion might have been meant for Silas once upon a time, but it was no more.
It had a new target to bring down!
