Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 111: One reason
Chapter 111: One reason
Her stomach rumbled in indignation all the way as her feet grew heavier by the second. Each step required more effort the closer Silas’ chambers drew.
"I’ve come for our feeding session!"
Yes, those would be her exact words once he’d enquired about the reasons that brought her there.
Although, what if he still refused or ordered her away?
Then she was to dispute his orders and explain the reasons why.
That dreaded carved door came into vue a little too soon for Arabella’s taste. So grand, the young woman couldn’t decide whether it was expanding in size, or if it was her own body that shrinked the nearer it became.
All of the courage she’d mustered, all of the words and justifications her and Ada had practiced during dinner, they all evaporated leaving not the slightest trace behind the moment Arabella stopped in front of his door.
A blank canvas her mind had turned as every shard of effort she’d put into keeping her heart and anxiety in check scrambled out the window, hanging her high and dry.
Her fist went up and down so many times without ever knocking, Arabella had already lost count.
And as if that wasn’t enough, a deep and icy cold voice reached from behind and snatched a jolt out of her.
"What is it you need?" Silas stood rigid a few feet away.
He somehow seemed rough, but she couldn’t put her finger on what earned him that outlook.
"I... It’s... Well," the young woman tried multiple times to speak with not the sliver of success in sight. After a few attempts, she finally landed on something, "It has been two weeks since you fed,"
"That is a correct observation indeed," he retorted dryly.
Complete and utter blank... No words rose up to her throat, even her voice abandoned her before him.
"Did you come all the way here to remind me?" he made a very curt pause before adding, "How kind of you,"
His tone oozed with sarcasm and yet fell flat on the ears. The diamonds that served him as irises reflected the flickering of flames as per their usual, but they harbored something new. A glint that was never there. Not that Arabella knew of, at least.
"It is time," was all she managed.
"Your father arrives tomorrow. You’d better prepare yourself for it since you chose to meet him anyway,"
She flinched the instant he took a step forward. Her entire body crystalized in place while gravity did the rest with her weight.
However, Silas’ warmth drew further right after enveloping her as the vampire never stopped and instead went straight for the door behind her.
"I’d like to access my chambers if you don’t mind,"
He too stopped all motion, staring at the wood carvings he’d handcrafted years and years back.
Eventually, after seconds that stretched to centuries, Arabella found the will to move out of the way.
Silas spared her not a glance and made his way inside. Though when he turned around to shut the door, he was a bit taken aback to notice the young woman had followed him in.
Cursing the hunger that rendered his senses dull, the man merely glared right through her soul, hoping it’d inspire the standard reaction in her it usually did, but to no avail. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
With a new found firmness, she too gawked at him in anticipation. There sure was apprehension in her eyes, but clearly not enough to scare her away.
"I’d like to be alone," he reiterated, "Leave,"
"Of course, Master," she offered a slight bow, but then straightened her stance and kept her position, "After the feeding," she added.
The trembles that overcame her never stopped only mellowing at times before picking up seconds after.
"You are quite bold tonight. Now where does one get such confidence?" his head tilted ever so slightly to the side, the ghost of a smirk painting his lips.
Funny how that worked... The one night he needed her to scamper off, was the same night she insisted on remaining.
"Please forgive me, Master," her eyes fell to the floor, "But it has to be done,"
"Does it?"
There stood a foreign hint in his tone, lurking among familiar ones. Mockery? Or was it not?
"Well, in that case, give me a reason,"
He hung the words out for her to put together, and when she failed, Silas spun around leaving a chuckle behind before moving towards his wooden canvas.
"A reason?" Eyebrows higher up her forehead, her lips struggled to connect, "I am afraid I don’t follow,"
"Predictable," he practically scoffed.
Once more, for a mother and son that were supposedly growing further apart, him and Persephone sure shared so much, down to their expressions.
"Please...," Arabella pleaded, never budging an inch from her spot.
His shoulders slumped at once, highlighting how tense they’d been just the instant preceding it.
Silas placed the carving tool he’d picked back down and let out a long sigh, "Give me one reason I should feed tonight and not any other night," he faced her again, "Why do you insist so much?"
"Because I...It’s...," she rummaged her mind for a believable answer.
"And don’t you dare lie to me," his timbre fell into a much deeper range as he took a step closer.
Her breath hitched in her throat when a chill ran up her spine so fast it’d halted her lung activity.
"Go on," so very slowly, he moved forward.
"I believe it will... I believe it would help calm my nerves," Arabella struggled to push the words out and did so in a shaky voice.
Exactly, like he’d done so with Edna that same morning, Silas flashed right before Arabella allowing her no time to register her situation, "Lies," he hissed.
Heart threatening to leap out its cage, the breeze he’d generated as well as the sheer shock of the abruptness blew her backwards, causing her to tumble over her own gown.
But his arm did not let her to take the fall. Indeed, Silas had wrapped his arm around her waist, holding her body still and...Close to his own.
In a whisper that sent shivers down the crevices of her soul, he murmured, "Would you like to try that again?" right into her ear.
