Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 108: In fits of rage
Chapter 108: In fits of rage
As was tradition, Edna stomped across the hallways, basket in hand, from room to room, begrudgingly picking the entertainers’ dirty laundry that was left for that purpose by each door.
Once and again, she would throw a glance at the protected beds inside the shaded rooms. Despite the fact that each room harbored three vampires, Edna still envied their treatment. Well, not the sharing part, but their sleeping quarters were much nicer than the maids’ chambers.
From a very early age, she’d dreamed of sleeping on a queen size bed. One of those garnished with crisp white satin sheets, but she never had that...
When Edna first became the Master’s blood provider, she hoped that with time and good behavior, the Lady would have granted her every wish and made her dreams come true.
For that she remained patient and always did everything as told. Her desires came so close within reach, at her fingertips even.
But then... Without any warning, it all came crashing down on her head when that... precious little princesse decided her own sheets weren’t cozy enough and she had to come there and steal someone else’s instead.
Her huffing and puffing dimmed down when a so captivating yet familiar scent tugged softly at her senses.
The same woodsy aroma that knew how to render her weak and make her obey without the slightest protest. It approached and grew stronger at a steady pace.
Sure enough, right as she turned the corner in front of her, Edna came face to face with Silas. The vampire liked to amble the hallways between matters whether they took a short or a long time to accomplish. It was one of the few activities that helped him think.
That morning however, aside from his usual glower, Edna noted something strange across his features.
Although as odd as it was to see, it was not the first time he wore that expression in her presence.
Not only was she aware of it, but the maid also knew what caused it.
"Good morning, Master," She simpered and curtsied, basket still in hands.
"To you as well," he said simply, looking not particularly thrilled to see her.
"Oh dear... That shade under your eyes does you a great disservice," there was something in her voice, a hint of falsity that did not mix well with the uneven look of concern she displayed, "It is especially striking for someone that needs no sleep," one of her hands, the free one, rose to cover her mouth.
"Thank you for your concern,"
His tone completely dry, Silas marched forward then past her without another word.
"It was my job to be concerned with your needs once upon a time," her statement sounded heavier than the previous, as if truly coming from the heart.
"It was and then it wasn’t,"
He did not stop at first, but when she spoke again, the vampire felt compelled to, "Did I not do a good job at that?" dropping almost every act, Edna grew bolder, "I know that look on you too well. Your hunger is eating at you. It might just consume you if not quenched," she smirked, "I know Arabella has a lot on her plate and you were always so kind and patient, Master," she took a few steps his way, "Perhaps... Just this once, I could cover for her. To lighten her burden,"
"Return to your chores. That’ll be a better use of your energy,"
Right as Silas was about to step forward, her mouth opened once more, "Does her blood taste that much better than mine?" the words came through pressed as though she’d grinded them.
When they finally reached his ears, Silas decided those were too venomous for his taste thus pushing him over the line of calm he toed.
Before Edna had the time to blink, the vampire had flashed so quickly, so close before her, his warm breath struck her across the face.
His struggle to maintain control over his breathing was apparent. Silas then leaned lower and forward until his face was a mere inch from hers before grunting through gritted teeth, "It offers me leagues above anything yours ever managed,"
Shallow trembles traveled his entire boy while Edna remained completely frozen and eyes wide open.
It only took seconds for her blood to start boiling in their streams, potentially coursing faster than they ever did and as a result morphed the color of her skin into a deeper shade of red. frёeωebɳovel.com
But Silas was not done expressing his thoughts. His hand slowly rose and hovered dangerously close to her throat, "I am warning you, Edna; my patience is running thin as it is already. Your voice only exacerbates my urge to rip through your flesh. So, don’t test me," he practically hissed.
And with that, he flashed away before Edna had the chance to exhale the air she held.
Tears welled up in her eyes as her hand rushed to comfort her throat.
He hadn’t even grazed her, but the sheer thought of it alone, the look on his face made her shiver in place.
All she wanted was to help him, and the only way he found to repay her was threaten to snuff her out of life?
That was it! That was too much for her!
In a huff, Edna choked down her tears and wiped furiously at her cheeks in case some beads had escaped her control.
"Leagues above mine, huh?" she grumbled under her breath, "I’ll show you!"
The maid only realized she’d dropped the laundry basket when a wave of searing pain emanated from it.
She kicked it away in a fit of rage and shoved her hand between her breasts to snatch the piece of parchment niched in their midst.
If Edna had any doubts or reservations about trusting Lord Dragomir, that interaction with Silas completely sealed the deal for her.
From that moment on, she was all in even if their plan entailed killing Arabella with her own hands.
