Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 101: Quiet dilemma
Chapter 101: Quiet dilemma
no one knew how to cherish and respect people’s time better than fairies did. Best of them, the kind Liriel who never dilly dallied or dragged her words.
By the five minutes mark, she had already laid everything that was business related in front of Silas.
"I shall arrange a meeting with the head of the wolf folk. The spring equinox banquet will be held in the caverns as is tradition. I will personally see to it," Silas offered her a graceful nod.
"Thank you, dear. That beast answers to nothing but brute force. Though I have a feeling he will think twice before committing the irreparable when up against you of all people," she chuckled.
"Let us hope it does not come to that,"
From time to time, since the beginning of their conversation, and especially after the young fairies had snatched Arabella away, Silas would throw glances behind himself. As discreet as they were, they did not escape Liriel’s sharp observation. freёnovelkiss.com
"Concerned, are we?" she smirked, "Worry not, she is in good hands. Even the most air headed of them knows how to steer clear of trouble,"
"I’d never dare assume otherwise," he too mirrored her expression.
"Is she your blood provider?"
For a twinkle in time, the words to respond failed Silas, but then, the fact that he sat before a fairy came back running to him.
"Her aura...," he said.
"Indeed. Yours was all over hers," she paused before continuing, "I must say, besides being of noble blood, I am curious to know what’s so special about this one? You never brought anyone along with you so, what’s her story?" Sitting at the top of a large enough rock, the green napiel covering the grounds around them could not conceal her figure.
"Whether her story is worth telling or not isn’t for me to decide,"
"You’ve always been so kind, Silas. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise," She gave him the warmest of beams, "But... Quit trying to eavesdrop on them, your ears twitch when you enhance your hearing,"
Caught red handed, the vampire cleared his throat and patted the grass off his clothes upon standing up.
Aside from being concise and straight to the point, Liriel was also blunt, even though she’d always gone for sweeter words to verbalise her thoughts.
No one else would have ever dared speak to him that way. Well, other than his own mother, of course.
"And here I thought I was being stealthy," he let out a dry chuckle.
The elder sat on his shoulder as he walked towards Arabella and the other fairies. Their squeaks had somewhat quieted down, and for all he tried, Silas remained undecided on whether to worry or to breathe a sigh of relief.
Thus, going against what Liriel had advised him and listened in on the girls anyway.
"Well, are you two intimately involved with each other?" Silas would have recognized Floriel’s voice amid a sea of other fairies.
"Intimately... Involved?" the stuttering from Arabella entirely gave her state of mind away.
"She means to ask if you two engaged in sexual intercourse?" another small voice had asked.
As if Floriel’s words weren’t clear enough, but the fairies always took every word at face value. They were a literal bunch, especially the youngest ones.
If he could be sure of one thing, it was that Arabella was not having the time of her life with such a conversation.
"What?" the young woman practically shrieked, "No! No! We never... We would never!"
In her frenzy, Arabella had hurled everything in one breath. null doubt fearing that a simple no wouldn’t do.
But a part of it stuck with Silas, echoing in his mind for longer than he’d liked it to. "We would never".
She said it with such conviction, such vivacity, it was hard to believe it wasn’t real.
Why should it matter to him so? Whether she’d considered the idea or not was quite frankly irrelevant since she was human; it would never happen.
He snuffed the need to throw the subject around in his mind and quelled it by sinking his nails right into palms, making sure not to break his skin. They still ambled the fairyland after all, spilling blood would be a disgrace.
"Oh! I see," yet another fairy had spoken up, "He fed upon your blood straight from the vein, didn’t he?"
It took them long enough to remember that intimacy was not the only way for one’s aura to rub onto someone else.
"Yes! That is it!" Arabella wasted no time and pounced on the chance that was handed to her in order to switch topics, "I have become his blood provider since... Well, a bit less than two weeks until now," she added a tad calmer.
"Eh... You should have said so from the beginning then," Ariel chimed in.
"My apologies, I am not acquainted with the concept of auras. I was not even aware of its existence," the young woman said sheepishly, dishing an awkward chuckle after her words.
"Right, you did mention that before," a new voice popped, "But why would you become a blood provider if you are a noblewoman? I thought the treaty stated that only people from the bottom class were to serve that purpose,"
"Right you are!" Arabella answered her immediately, "I was not sent as a tribute. I... Came of my own volition. Although, I feel as though I never had any choice either," hushed her tone had turned, declining with every word uttered.
Strangely but considerately enough, the fairies did not hound her for more information. It was like they’d sensed her grief.
The conversation had died down after that, right up until Liriel and Silas joined them.
"They haven’t been giving you a hard time I hope," Liriel had half asked, breaking the fallen silence.
"No, on the contrary. They’ve treated me with utmost kindness. I couldn’t have asked for better,"
How good did joy look on her! Silas thought to himself. May it never ghost her features.
