Tyrant's Obsession With The Heiress-Chapter 50: When The Angel Challenges The Devil
Chapter 50 - When The Angel Challenges The Devil
Lady Drosera barely registered what was happening around her for since she was mad with grief, she howled her sorrow as she clung to Lady Karina.
"My son is gone!" She sobbed, her tears soaking her friend's dress. "My darling husband was murdered... There must be justice!"
Lady Drosera didn't realise that she was digging herself into a deeper grave than she already had.
On the other hand, Lyall was torn, thus he stopped grabbing the lady and turned to his liege for further orders.
He could have easily yanked her away without consequence, but doing so would more than likely injure the lady and his liege's angel in the process.
It was a rather unusual situation, because under normal circumstances, Lyall would never have bothered or given a second thought to whom he harmed.
However, he remembered quite vividly how his liege had Caelum by the throat for smacking Lady Karina before.
Lady Karina, however, did not think much of her actions when she angrily slapped Lyall's hand away to make him release his grip.
"Release her," the lady snarled, showing an impressive amount of ferocity in her eyes before she turned to Orpheus. "My Lord, please, I informed you before how Lady Drosera spoke of bringing about her own death due to grief. If you take a sword to her, it will have little meaning."
Orpheus wasn't too pleased or accepting of Lady Karina's boldness this time. In private, he wouldn't bat an eye at her disobedience, but never in front of his men.
"Please have mercy, my Lord," Lady Karina pleaded again, trying to soothe her friend. "If you allow me to escort her back to her chambers, I will comfort her and educate her about the consequences of her actions."
Orpheus had observed with a strange mix of emotions.
A part of him didn't want to deny or upset Lady Karina, but that did not change the gist of the situation.
It was difficult to refuse her, especially when she looked at him with such glossy emerald eyes that were quickly welling with tears.
It was a stark contrast to her joy and laughter just moments before when she was so free-spirited and dancing without a care in the world.
"The lady hid in the shadows and approached the table with a dagger," Orpheus stated in a deep, deadly time. "Any fool with eyes to see could tell that her intentions were as clear as day."
It would have been difficult for Lady Karina to argue the point.
"Lady Drosera is not in her sane mind and she is beyond rational thought." She shook her head, her lovely golden locks scattering around her shoulders.
"My Lord, I had told you that her son was abroad on treatment for many years and recently reunited with his parents and then your men took him in the blink of an eye."
Orpheus' gaze darkened when he realised his angel was bordering on a dangerous path.
"There was absolutely no reason to murder a young boy," Lady Karina fired again. "If there is anyone responsible and to be blamed for her madness, it is you."
The great hall was filled with choking silence as the Van Merikh knights sat stunned at the table.
No one had ever dared to speak to Orpheus Van Merikh in such a manner and lived to tell the tale.
Hendrix was one such example.
And if Hendrix's drunken words held any truth in them, the validity of them would soon be put to the test in the next few moments.

The Van Merikh knights were very interested to see the outcome.
Orpheus was known for dealing with most heretics at the tip of his blade or his glacial hand to their throat.
And the Van Merikh knights were curious to see if Lady Karina would be the sole exception to that rule.
And if that were truly the case, then Orpheus Van Merikh would no longer hold his title as the most powerful anomaly in the realm of Ethuaria.
That title belonged to Lady Karina now.
But the knights did not have to wait long for a response, for Orpheus reached out and grabbed Lady Karina by the waist and gave her a gentle tug to break her grip on Lady Drosera.
"Take the lady to the vault," Orpheus snapped at Lyall. "She will be dealt with later."
Lady Drosera kicked and screamed as Lyall gently hauled her onto his shoulder and escorted her from the great hall.
And in Orpheus' arms, Lady Karina was practically clawing at him like a wildcat as he lifted her bridal style and carried her out of the hall.
For one as tiny as her, she managed to twist herself in his arms and shove against his hard chest to propel herself out of his hold.
And as Lyall exited the entry with Lady Drosera, Orpheus took his angel up the stairs and into her chamber on the fourth floor.
Once they were inside her bower, Orpheus slammed the door so hard it could have no doubt rattled the entire castle.
The lady was still struggling when he set her on her feet and her force caused her to stumble back and tumble to the floor.
He would have caught her if he'd been fast enough.
With her hair askew, her dress tattered in some places, she managed to find her footing and face him with a stance filled with pure fury.
Orpheus wanted nothing more than to reach for her, but he knew right now that would do more harm than good.
"Are you actually mad, Orpheus? You cannot kill her," she half-demanded and half-pleaded. "You are the cause of her madness and grief, so how could you think to punish her for that?"
Surprisingly, Orpheus remained calm. He glanced down, noticing that the lady was without her shoes.
He kneeled before her, taking her foot, which had been somewhat bruised because of the stone floors in the great hall where she danced before.
Lady Karina was startled, still fuming, and tried to pry her foot away, but his firm grip on her ankle and one stern look had her stopping her resistance.
"There are things that must be made clear, my lady," Orpheus finally spoke, assessing her foot for any injuries. "You are not to address me so brazenly as you did in the great hall and you will never speak with such reproach and disrespect ever again, do you understand?"
"What do you intend to do with Lady Drosera?" She asked, showing no regard for his warnings.
"Answer me, Karina," he said firmly. "Do you understand?"
Orpheus glanced up at her with dark eyes and she could see that crimson streak beneath them again.
Lady Karina knew very well she was testing his limits beyond what he had, but she was both frightened and furious.
The man was so tender when handling her foot, laying one down and bringing the other up to his knee to assess it as well but his words were both calm and cold.
It was a complicated situation.
