To His Hell and Back-Chapter 205: Don’t Likened Me
Chapter 205: Don’t Likened Me
Cassius twisted the creature’s neck, his eyes zeroing on the odd collar that was placed on a few of the creatures that had attacked him. When he had focused on it, he could see that there was some kind of a tag on the collar written in cursive letters saying: "10002" "10480" and underneath the tag was an even smaller letter that was slightly smudged saying "Human turned Vampire" "Human" "Pureblood."
Human turned Vampire.
Human.
Pureblood.
So. Not just mere remnants but records. These remnants were categorized, tagged like livestock, a result of their experiments.
Cassius’s jaw tightened. These informations were enough for him to confirm that these creatures were a fruit of experimentation created by Owen and his team. It would also mean that this man would have more information that could serve them a breakthrough to this case.
Cassius would have normally taunted Owen, provoking, baiting, or drawing out the fight just long enough to make the man slip. Having such many experience in battlefield, Cassius was confident in his talent to taunt someone until they spill secrets.
But not this time.
He could tell when taunting wouldn’t work such as now. Owen wasn’t in the mood of talking, his sight had fallen only on one goal and one and that was Arabella.
Forcing him to talk won’t work, taunting him won’t either.
While usually Cassius would simply let the target be taken so he could later uncover the truth, Cassius wasn’t going to ever choose that option now. Not when it involves Arabella. Cassius wouldn’t let her be used as bait. Not for strategy. Not for information. Not even for the cause.
Arabella blinked when she realized how Cassius was studying something on the creature and since the remnants didn’t once lay a hand on her, she tried to study the creatures with him, standing behind him as she noticed the pin prick mark on their necks and more of them all over their arms as if they had been stabbed by needles for more than hundreds of time.
She noticed that this must have been the doings of Morpheus who had also tried to inject something into Cassius, though she was the one who had gotten injected in return after protecting him.
So she turned to Owen and yelled, "What is the used in turning humans and vampires into these creatures?! You’re not going to fight and instead make these creatures fight for you, aren’t you just a coward?"
Cassius behind her couldn’t help but whistle at her great attempt in provoking Owen.
Surprisingly though Owen had been tight lipped, when it was Arabella who had questioned him, his lips turned loose.
"You hurt me Your Highness," he said with such ease, "These creatures are merely a step we need to take to achieve into a better future. It is necessary and they’re called Remnants."
"But they are humans..."
"And so?" Owen turned to her, confused as if he couldn’t understand her point. He then hummed, "I see! You mean that since they are a human, we shouldn’t harm them? But why? Technically in numbers there are more humans than vampires so for experiments sake, using humans are far cost efficient."
"Cost efficient," Bella shuddered at how easy he had talked about humans’s life and narrowed her eyes, "But you are also one of those humans!"
"NO!"
A sudden shout came from Owen whose eyes had turned bright green and wide. But he managed to pull his expression back to place as though nothing happened and with a slightly embarrassed face he softly turned to Arabella, "I apologize for raising my voice, your Highness. I was simply taken aback as you have called me a human. But how could we ever be a human? Sure we look similar but we are much more special than those creatures who only know how to laze around and take advantage of our power."
"So you’re saying that because you have power you’re different from a human? We bleed like them, we live like them, we are still human even if we have power," she tried reasoning to Owen who seemed to be trying his best to suppress his anger for being likened to a human. With his hands clutched into a tight grip he turned to her before forcing a smile.
"A human is different from us, Your Highness. Sure we do look like them," he nodded with a sigh, "And we bleed like them even if we do not want to be similar to them if we could. But we are not human. We have powers and we are called sorcerers but for you, you’re different. You have the royal blood. The blood of someone who could control the world, because you have once tamed a demon with your blood."
Arabella frowned, "I know, I have heard about sorcerers and how their powers came from demons. But so what? Then aren’t you a human if you hadn’t taken the demon’s power?"
"No!" A screeching yell came from Owen who had jumped up from the floor to the altar, angry as he stepped forward to Arabella with still a few distance between them. He gritted his teeth, his words containing such strong anger for being likened to a human, "You don’t understand it yet but humans don’t have powers to control demons, we are the only creatures allowed to have those power that is why we’re different, that’s why we are special! We are the ones who were made to rule this kingdom, this land, no- this entire world! Yes. Not these vampires, but us! We would have made that into reality if not for that fucking King who bound our soul into this land, disallowing us from leaving that damn castle or this cursed land!"
Arabella who was taken aback by his scream stepped once behind but she didn’t stop here, knowing that this was a chance to know more about her origin. Cassius as if knowing that had slowly blend with the background, letting no moment of interruption so Owen would spill more of his secret.
And thus the two work together without communicating.
Arabella again asked the furious Owen, "What do you mean that we can’t leave this land? If I leave this land, there would be a problem then?"
"No. Well that’s because you’re different. Because you have the royal blood!"
"But what about Morpheus? Doesn’t he has the royal blood as well?"
and at this Owen who was taken aback went quiet for a moment.
Arabella pressed, "No, he visited me using someone else’s body didn’t he? So that means he can’t even leave the place he was at, much less this land, am I wrong?"
