To His Hell and Back-Chapter 156: Incongruent Memories-III
Chapter 156: Incongruent Memories-III
Morpheus was there, still peacefully smiling. His eyes were always kind and his appearance always appeared gentle but those who aren’t blinded by the gentle air he exuded in the first sight would notice how cold his eyes were and how it was rather filled with a sense of hatred than peace.
The hooded man who saw him took a step back but he didn’t run away, instead he strengthen his footsteps and stood straight without much change in his behavior.
"I have been searching for you for far too long," Morpheus said first. "First you left the castle for days out of a fit of anger when all I have done was scold you a little."
The hooded man clenched his fists. "I didn’t left the castle. I was following your order to look after the girl."
"Oh really?" The blonde lady beside him giggled. She walked closer to Morpheus and placed her hand around his shoulders, lowering her voice and whispered like a vixen, "Your Majesty, I have heard that three man had been killed ever since Callis left the castle."
Callis, the hooded man, seemed to froze at that sentence. He turned his palms into a fist not ready to look at Morpheus but he could feel the shift in the air and how dark Morpheus’s expression had became, "I wasn’t... they had attacked me first."
"Oh please, they were there to protect you Callis. Isn’t it an excuse to run away from the castle and from His Majesty for good? We found your diary that cited how excited you are whenever you leave the castle."
"No!" Callis panicked. When he saw Morpheus’s face, sweat dropped from his forehead as worries colored his skin blue. If there was one thing Morpheus had always despised was how his closest people and family members running away from him. Due to Morpheus’s past, he had the tendency to locking up his own people, believing it was the safest option but if they had ran away, he would the considered it to be betrayal. Betrayal that crosses him deep enough for him to wish to kill them despite loving them as a family.
"You have to believe me brother-" Callis said nervously, looking at the blonde haired woman after Morpheus, "They hadn’t came to protect me, they had attacked me. If they were the people you had sent to follow me I wouldn’t have hurt them."
"Isn’t that a lie?" The blonde woman cut in, "You wanted to run away and the captain must have realized that you were planning to do such a thing and betray His Majesty’s trust in you. So you killed time before they could report this news to His Majesty’s side." freeweɓnovel.cøm
"Shut up Wanda! All the things you have said are lies and you only want to feed more hatred between me and brother Morpheus," said Callis in annoyance. "They had attacked me first, I didn’t lie- I wouldn’t lie about that. I’m still wounded because of them so I stayed here while trying to heal the wound."
"Odd isn’t it?" Wanda continued, smiling in a wide grin. She could see Morpheus beside him clenching his fist and though he was smiling, the deadly air he let out had turn even bitter. To Morpheus, Callis is his star. He would have simply let those who betrayed him die a painful death but when it involved Callis, Morpheus began to act softer and kinder. This annoyed Wanda as she disliked seeing anyone receiving special treatment from Morpheus, especially not Callis.
This was the perfect chance for her to get rid of Callis for good as though Callis always called Morpheus "brother", they weren’t really siblings.
"But we received this," Wanda pulled out a dead owl from her hand and the bloodstained paper folded neatly inside a small tube, "From the captain before his death and it says: Running away. Callis."
Callis’s green eyes widened and he turned to Morpheus, shaking his head, "Believe me, I didn’t run- I would have-" but before he could finish his words Morpheus’s hands shot forward and in a blink he had grabbed Callis by his neck and slammed his body to the nearest tree.
Even though Callis is a warrior and his body was sturdy Morpheus’s strength wasn’t to joke either. When he had slammed Callis the tree bark had bent, and splinters fall like a dust around them. Blood then spewed from Callis’s mouth but before he could recover a slap had resounded across his cheeks which made his almost fading consciousness to return back in a slow rhythm.
He huffed for breath, holding to his stomach that was still bleeding out.
"Callis," Morpheus who had been quietly arranging his anger finally spoke up, "If the captain had really hurt you, I would not hesitate to bring him back to life and stabbed him where he had stabbed you," as he spoke, his fingers dove into Callis’s wounds, sparking agonizing pain that made Callis’s lifted feet to curl from pain. "But that diary was written by you, isn’t it? If everything was a lie, was the diary also a lie?"
Callis squeezed his eyes in pain and between his tears, he could see Wanda who was smiling as her plan had worked. She had always been trying her best to find a way to destroy their bond and though it had always ended with Morpheus forgiving him so many times, this time that diary was a conclusive evidence.
Callis knew he shouldn’t left the diary or even wrote one but he was about to spiral into madness inside that damned castle while trying to help those around him who had also turned mad. He needed to let out his emotions even if it was to a book and though he had burnt the rest of his diary he must have forgotten one.
Or Wanda must have used her magic to re create the diary he had wrote.
"I saw what you had wrote," Morpheus muttered, "I can’t stay any longer with his madness. Leaving is my only choice. From the castle but most of all from him. So tell me Callis my love, who is him?’"
