Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared-Chapter 41 - Continuous Trouble
41: Chapter 41 Continuous Trouble
41 -41 Continuous Trouble
Since all of these are just assumptions, the police would investigate what happens next.
Su Hui suggested Gu Fan go home as she had to return to the police station and deal with a lot of matters.
Staying up all night, Gu Fan came home yawning, only to find that people were already waiting for him at his doorstep.
Lin Xi, Lu Yi, Du Jun, and key members of the dance club were all there.
Deeply sighing, Gu Fan knew why they all came together; it felt like they were all on the brink of a crisis due to the severity of the situation.
Gu Fan opened the door and signaled for everyone to enter.
They sat down to discuss how to proceed.
“Tell us, what exactly happened?” Du Jun didn’t sit down.
Everyone was restless, their gazes all fixed on Gu Fan, anxious to know what had happened to Wu Fei and Chen Ying.
Instead of answering directly, Gu Fan countered with another question: “Is it confirmed?
Did Wu Fei and Chen Ying ever return home?”
In response to this, Lin Xi nodded: “It’s confirmed.
Neither of them returned home last night, and their phones are still off.
I think things don’t look good.”
“The fifth and sixth ones, both disappeared at once.” Gu Fan looked worried as he frowned.
He had expected some resistance when all of them decided to split into groups, but he hadn’t expected two people to run into trouble.
Gu Fan then recounted everything that had happened, including how he saw three suspicious-looking men following Wu Fei and Chen Ying.
The police had already detained these three men, and perhaps they could find out what happened after questioning them.
“Hopefully.” Everyone didn’t seem to hold much hope, frankly speaking, even Gu Fan felt the police wouldn’t get much out of those three.
Du Jun followed up with a question: “Since you found something wrong with the haunted maze, did you tell the police?”
“Of course I did.
As for how they will investigate, it entirely depends on them.” Gu Fan couldn’t reveal that he and Su Hui went to the amusement park together for the investigation, else Lin Xi would pulverize him in a minute if she knew.
Upon hearing Gu Fan’s response, Du Jun fell into silence, seemingly lost in thought.
At this moment, a classmate named Zhou Yu couldn’t hold back and asked, “Why did Wu Fei and Chen Ying disappear after going to the amusement park, yet you, Gu Fan, were perfectly fine?
If it weren’t for your brawl at the nightclub causing chaos, perhaps Li Xiaoyan wouldn’t have disappeared, and you were the last one to see Qian Chuan.”
Every word Zhou Yu said targeted Gu Fan which angered Lu Yi: “What do you mean?
Are you implying that all these disappearances are Gu Fan’s fault?
Don’t forget, the first person to disappear, Zhao Rui, had nothing to do with us.
Don’t start picking fights over nothing.”
“Who’s picking fights over nothing?
I’m just stating facts.” In response, Zhou Yu became even more defiant, standing up to confront Lu Yi, his tone taking on an even sharper edge: “Everything was fine when people were disappearing one at a time.
Gu Fan suggested pairs, and now two people have disappeared at once.
What good did sticking together do, staying in crowded places, not talking to strangers?
Wu Fei and Chen Ying disappeared all the same.”
Hearing this, many people fell silent.
Some glanced at Gu Fan with suspicion in their eyes, seemingly in agreement with Zhou Yu.
Meanwhile, Gu Fan sat silently amidst them.
Lin Xi immediately stood up to defend Gu Fan: “What are you all saying?
I know everyone’s scared, but we have to stay united right now, find a way to get through these difficulties together, not blame each other.
If we start to fight amongst ourselves now, we’re all done.”
Lin Xi’s words struck a chord with everyone.
Everyone lapsed into silence, not sure what to say next, leaving an awkward atmosphere hanging in the room.
To alleviate the tension, Du Jun quickly intervened: “Alright, alright.
Nobody wanted this to happen.
We just need to be more vigilant.
Don’t wander around alone.”
Zhou Yu seemed restless: “Is that useful?”
“If going in pairs doesn’t work, then we go in threes, or fours, or fives.” Gu Fan said calmly, “Exclude Lu Yi and myself, you guys are eight in total.
When you need to go out, find some more classmates to join you.
This might be the only option available for now.”
A crucial point occurred to Lin Xi: “But what about when we go home on weekends?
We can’t possibly go together then, we will have to separate.”
“Two out of you eight are from different places, so they’ll stay in school on weekends.
For the remaining six, Du Jun, you will have to arrange transportation that can accommodate six people.
Drop everyone off one by one.
As for Lin Xi, Lu Yi and I will take care of her.
The rest is up to you.”
“No problem!” Du Jun immediately agreed.
To him, getting a vehicle was no big deal.
And with that, the matter was settled.
Under Du Jun’s leadership, everyone left Gu Fan’s house.
Only Lin Xi and Lu Yi remained, seemingly with more to discuss.
Gu Fan’s mind was whirring.
There were two people staying at the school.
Du Jun would deliver the other five.
Lin Xi would be transported by himself and Lu Yi.
It appeared that everyone was accounted for, but was there truly no loophole in the plan?
If he were the kidnapper, Gu Fan mulled over how he would stage his attack.
Would he strike at the two at the school?
Given that it was a campus, the degree of difficulty was high.
Would he target Du Jun and the five others?
Du Jun would be delivering them one by one to the residential area, providing few opportunities for ambush.
Suddenly, Gu Fan noticed Lin Xi sitting beside him with a sulky expression.
Instantly, he felt uncomfortable and asked, “What’s wrong, beautiful, did someone upset you?”
Lin Xi didn’t make a sound but continued to look upset, leaving Gu Fan baffled.
He hadn’t done anything to provoke her, right?
Soon, Gu Fan noticed Lu Yi’s warning expression as if signaling to him that something was amiss.
Immediately, Gu Fan pulled Lu Yi aside and asked quietly, “What’s wrong?
Who upset Lin Xi?
Hurry up and tell me so I can take up for her.”
“Defend her?
Then you should start with hitting yourself,” said Lu Yi with a look of helpless resignation.
This left Gu Fan utterly confused.
Could it be that Lin Xi’s anger had something to do with him?
Lu Yi muttered quietly, “Ever since Lin Xi found out that you went to the amusement park yesterday, she has been asking me why you skipped class, why you went to the amusement park, and who you were with.
You understand now, women’s intuition is razor-sharp.”
“I see; that serves me right.” Gu Fan finally realized why Lin Xi was upset and knew he was in a sticky situation.
So, he put on a conciliatory expression and said, “About the amusement park incident yesterday, I think I should explain myself to avoid any misunderstanding.”
Unmoved, Lin Xi narrowed her eyes at Gu Fan, her expression suggesting, “Let’s see how you’re going to talk your way out of this”, easily overpowering the guilt-ridden Gu Fan.
Gu Fan hardly knew how to look at Lin Xi.
He was panicking internally, thinking about what to do and how to keep it a secret.
All he wanted to do was a good deed and keep a heartbroken woman company.
How did everything become like this?
Just as Gu Fan was frantically thinking up explanations, Lin Xi said coldly, “Didn’t you go to the amusement park with Su Hui?”
Gu Fan’s face went pale upon hearing her words.
It took a moment before he managed to recover and forced a bitter smile.
“Lin Xi, it’s not what you think.
I know I should’ve told you, but there’s some complexity involved…
it’s difficult to explain…”
“If it’s hard to explain, then don’t explain it at all.” Lin Xi’s expression was stormy as she stood up abruptly and stormed off.
Her resolve was adamant.
“Oh my god!” Gu Fan hurried to catch up with her.
It felt like even the Yellow River couldn’t wash away his guilt.
Although faced with major enemies and a highly precarious situation, he was now also grappling with a relationship issue.
What on earth?
Of course, Gu Fan wouldn’t let Lin Xi just leave.
He had to prevent her from becoming the next missing person.
Lin Xi seemed impatient to stay around any longer; she immediately opened the door and stormed off.
“Wait for me, Lin Xi, don’t run around on your own.” Gu Fan was chasing and shouting at the same time, but Lin Xi didn’t seem to hear a single word.
She quickened her pace.
Clearly, she was infuriated, perhaps to the point of irrationality.
Just then, Su Hui returned.
She saw Lin Xi storming towards her and naturally, greeted her.
Lin Xi, however, didn’t respond and simply brushed past Su Hui.
“What…what’s happening?” Su Hui sensed something was amiss.
Seeing Gu Fan scrambling after the infuriated Lin Xi, she quickly grabbed him and asked, “What happened?
Did you two have a fight?
What did you do to make your girlfriend so angry that she’s stooping to ignore me?
Aren’t you going to chase after her?”
“Please, I’m chasing her right now.
We’ll talk about anything else later.
Thanks, dear grandmother.” Gu Fan brushed off Su Hui, eager to catch up with Lin Xi.
As she watched the young couple – one fuming and storming off, the other in hot pursuit – Su Hui inwardly sighed.
However, she didn’t realize the entire episode was triggered by her.
At that moment, Lu Yi walked up to Su Hui, shook her head, then sighed, “You caused this, Sister Su.
You better clean up the mess.
There’s nothing I can do here.”
“Ahh,” Su Hui exclaimed, then asked, “What’s wrong with me?
Is this somehow related to me?
I just got back.”
Lu Yi gave a dry chuckle.
“How would you feel if your boyfriend skipped class without telling you, spent the whole day at an amusement park with another woman, and appeared to have so much fun he seemed to forget about you?
How would you feel if you ran into that woman and she just greeted you as if nothing had happened?
What’s your reaction?”
“Uh…
well…
that doesn’t sound too good.” It dawned on Su Hui that she was in a rather sticky spot.
