The massive roar echoing from the spirit realm made Lucifer snap his head around in alarm.

Gluttony, no doubt. Beelzebub had gone to block the Mad God.

How did it catch on?

And then, moments later—

Lucifer understood.

[Goddamn it! Goddamn it!!]

Far behind Abaddon, Beelzebub came sprinting toward them in a panic.

Seeing the stains of malice caked around his mouth made the situation clear.

The Mad God had probably thrown out a decoy to divert Gluttony's attention elsewhere. While Gluttony was distracted, ravenously devouring the malice, the Mad God had skillfully slipped past and made it all the way here.

Lucifer shot Beelzebub a glare that could’ve torn flesh, but it was too late.

It had already happened.

To think Beelzebub could've held back the Mad God on his own in the first place was laughable.

The only reason Lucifer had sent Beelzebub was to buy a little time.

And in truth, Beelzebub had done that—he had successfully stalled the Mad God for quite a while.

The real problem wasn’t Beelzebub, but Satan, Belphegor, and Leviathan, who had taken far too long.

Lucifer was using one hand to desperately suppress the divine powers of various deities trying to descend from the Pantheon, while the other hand gripped the black chains from Asmodeus’s wings.

Both were steadily becoming too much to handle.

And now, he didn’t have the strength left to deal with the Mad God.

So Lucifer inflated himself to the fullest.

As if nothing was wrong.

As if he was still unshakable.

He stared straight at the Mad God.

[You filthy worm crawling out of the Pit. What brings you here?]

The Mad God burst out laughing at Lucifer’s words.

[The Pit, Hell—same sewer either way. You talk big for someone knee-deep in shit. So, what is it? You sent Satan, Leviathan, and even Belphegor, and the saint still hasn’t fallen? Must be a bitch to corrupt, huh? I should know—I had a fragment of myself erased inside that one.]

The Mad God’s chuckle vanished into a vicious growl.

[We both know trust and faith are bullshit between us, so I won’t waste time asking why you lied. But really—trying to drag Lust back into Hell? That’s a bit much, don’t you think? Do I need to kill Lust’s chosen again to make you understand? Her self-detonation was quite the spectacle, as I recall.]

Lucifer snarled.

[Touch even a fingertip of the saint, and you’ll see what happens.]

[Funny, I was about to say the same to you. From what I can see, it’s a bit more than fingertips already. Are you trying to unbalance the scales, Lucifer? You seem pretty invested, given how hard you're struggling.]

[Shut your damn mouth and disappear. You worm from the Pit.]

At Lucifer’s growled threat, the Mad God chuckled coolly.

[Hey, Pride. We had an understanding, remember? I hold the fallen gods in check, you keep the Pantheon in place. That’s how we kept the balance. But if you’re breaking the rules... well, I’ve got no choice but to keep you in check. Asmodeus has grown too big. I can’t just sit back and let her cross into Hell.]

Sensing the frigid malice behind that easy grin, Lucifer’s mind raced with calculations.

He quickly looked toward Satan, Belphegor, and Leviathan.

“[It’s... it’s taking too long!!]”

Belphegor shouted, her finger jammed into the saint’s forehead.

“[You useless bitch!! Move! I’m joining in! Satan! Hold her off!!]”

The Demon Lord of Envy—

Leviathan abandoned her grip on Asmodeus and joined in, trying to help with the saint’s corruption.

“[Amayel!!]”

As Asmodeus began to thrash wildly, Lucifer had to grab the black chains again to restrain her.

He was struggling.

Asmodeus was currently incarnated in the human world.

She couldn’t release enough power to destroy the saint’s body.

Even in her shackled state, Lucifer was finding it overwhelming.

Trying to hold back the Pantheon while controlling Asmodeus was driving him mad.

But he couldn’t afford to show it.

There was no time to hesitate.

Lucifer let out a thunderous roar that shook the spirit realm, aiming it at the Mad God.

[Begone! Crawl back to the Pit you slithered out of! I know a piece of your divinity was devoured by Asmodeus inside the saint’s soul. You’re probably too busy recovering to take on all of Hell right now, aren’t you?]

Lucifer’s shout was pure bluff.

He prayed the Mad God would simply back down and return to the Pit.

No.

He just needed more time. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

Just a little more time.

They were almost there.

Two Demon Lords were actively working to corrupt the saint.

Once the saint’s soul fell, it would all be over.

Lucifer roared again, fighting with everything he had—Asmodeus raging against the chains, gods from the Pantheon flooding him with divine power—

[GET LOST!! LEAVE!! DON’T PUSH ME, ABADDON. I’M WARNING YOU. GO BACK QUIETLY OR ELSE—]

[What, you’ll throw another tantrum like in the Celestial War?]

[Think I won’t?]

[You’ll have a hard time. After all... you’ll be very busy with the Pantheon from now on.]

The Mad God pulled something from his robes.

Lucifer’s eyes widened.

[You bastard!! What do you think you’re doing with that!?]

[It’s funny, isn’t it, Lucifer? The Pantheon. You got crushed 300 years ago—remember? You’ve barely recovered since. They’re still so weak that even you can hold them off alone. You’re the weakest of us, no question.]

The Mad God revealed twelve pristine white orbs.

Though suppressed by his power and shaped into spheres, both Lucifer and Beelzebub instantly recognized them.

So did the Mad God.

[But faith is a terrifying thing. It recovers faster than anything else. Now the Pantheon is strong enough to hold the balance again.]

[Don’t do it, Abaddon. You know what unleashing that means.]

Lucifer’s voice cracked with urgency.

Beelzebub, reading the room, began edging toward Abaddon’s flank.

But even seeing both divine beings move, Abaddon remained completely calm.

[Of course I know. If I release these, only the Pantheon benefits. Some of the 24 empty thrones will be reclaimed, and their power will spike. If they get too strong, I’ll have to block them myself. But...]

The Mad God pulled out two of the twelve orbs.

[If the saint falls now and becomes Hell’s... that’s it for me. I can’t allow that.]

[ABADDON!!]

Lucifer’s scream became the signal—Beelzebub lunged at Abaddon in desperation.

But it wasn’t even a fight.

With a single gesture, Abaddon unleashed a crushing pressure.

Beelzebub was blasted to the far corner of the spirit realm, slammed down and pinned like a broken puppet.

[Do you really think Gluttony alone can stop me? Have you forgotten who killed Lilia all those ages ago, Lucifer?]

The Mad God answered with a calm expression and a savage voice.

[If I weren’t busy suppressing the twelve divinities in my grasp, I could crush you just as easily. Gluttony alone is nothing.]

The two white orbs in his hand glimmered as they spun.

With deliberate flair, he showed them to Lucifer.

[The Moon Goddess Mnesia and the Wisdom Goddess Aneta. Familiar names, aren’t they? They gave you quite the headache at the frontlines during the Celestial War. Here—my gift to you.]

The Mad God let go of the two orbs.

[NO!!]

Lucifer screamed—

And the two divinities slipped free from the Mad God’s hands.

Their ascension was radiant. Beautiful.

The spirit realm trembled.

Within that thunderous resonance, the Mad God disappeared back into the Pit with a mocking laugh.

[Have fun with the Pantheon, Lord of Pride.]

Lucifer released the black chains binding Asmodeus.

[YOU BASTARD!! ABADDON!! ABADDON!!!!!!!!!]

Two of the Pantheon’s empty thrones had been restored.

A massive surge of divine power and authority rained down from the heavens.

Now, even Lucifer could no longer suppress the Pantheon while keeping ★ 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 ★ Asmodeus under control.

It was over.

****

Belphegor was frantically trying to dig into the saint’s mind and soul.

She was replaying the most horrific memories in his life over and over without end.

The agony of burning alive in the fire—replayed.

The despair of the moment when his father suddenly died—replayed.

The heartbreak of watching the mother he so desperately wanted to save slowly fade away in her sickbed—replayed.

[Break. Please, break already!!]

Endless despair and hopelessness eventually lead a person into Sloth.

Sloth and apathy seep into the spirit like water soaking into cotton, rotting the mind and soul from within.

And in the end—

They completely collapse.

That was Belphegor’s stage.

She was skilled at manipulating and reshaping the human psyche, turning it into her own.

So hurry.

Just a little faster—the saint’s mind had to break.

But...

The saint’s mind did not collapse.

“Eat up, son. I’m proud of you. Just doing your best is already a blessing.”

It was the life his father had tried to protect, even at the cost of his own.

His father’s death was painful—but precisely because of that,

The saint could not give up on life.

“I need to make green onion kimchi—my son’s favorite.”

Even his mother’s final words were the same.

The saint did not break.

He was remembering his mother’s love.

That shocking and brutal memory—he turned it into fuel to keep living.

Even the traumatic deaths of his father and mother couldn’t destroy the saint’s mind or soul.

Then what about pain?

Could the memory of that moment—the moment he burned alive—finally bring about his fall?

“It hurt like hell... but the kids probably lived, so... it's fine.”

The saint just accepted it.

[YOU STUPID FUCK!! What kind of human shrugs off the pain of burning to death with a single goddamn line like that!!]

Belphegor roared.

He was steady and kind.

He didn’t obsess over perfection, nor did he fight his primal sins with desperate inner battles.

He was just... honest to a fault. Almost stupidly upright.

The hardest type to corrupt.

Someone she couldn’t break quickly, no matter what.

And Leviathan, unable to bear watching any longer, lunged forward.

[You damn saint bastard. Let’s see you survive this.]

Leviathan’s power surged straight into the saint’s mind and soul.

If Belphegor’s style was slow and rotting—infusing despair into a weakened mind until it collapsed into Sloth—

Then Envy was the opposite.

It was intense.

A storm of toxic, burning emotions erupted in the saint’s mind.

[So what? In the end, you couldn’t save your mom or your dad.]

[What did burning alive get you? That little kid probably doesn’t even remember you.]

[Your death was meaningless.]

[Stupid son of a bitch. You couldn’t even finish your college entrance exams. You just sucked the life out of your parents like a parasite.]

[If you’d made more money, maybe your mother wouldn’t have died. If you’d paid for a better hospital, better treatment, she might have lived.]

[You’re a failure.]

[Why are you even alive? You’re good at nothing.]

[You’re a high school grad with no skills and no brains.]

[Everyone else went to college, got girlfriends, jobs, cars—and what about you?]

[Do you even deserve to live?]

All the self-hatred and buried negativity deep in the saint’s heart erupted like wildfire.

The flames began eating away at his mind and soul with terrifying speed.

Much faster than Belphegor’s method.

[That’s it!! Belphegor! Just a bit more! Once his mind’s completely broken, that’s when you move in and overwrite it!!]

Belphegor, watching the saint’s mind unravel, began to smile.

Just a little more.

They were so close now.

So damn close, after such a long, agonizing path.

The moment the saint became theirs—

Everything would change.

The balance would shatter, and Hell would take everything.

Belphegor waited, anxious, for the saint’s mind to finally collapse.

She waited.

And waited.

But—

[What is this? Why...?]

The saint’s mind didn’t break.

Even the storm of darkness and self-loathing deep in his heart couldn’t consume him completely.

Leviathan sensed something was wrong and looked deeper into the saint’s mind.

And then—

[You... YOU—!!]

Leviathan exploded with rage.

[That fucking unicorn bastard is protecting the saint’s mind!!]

An unexpected variable.
