Chapter 283: Warning bells

Cedric has gone missing after the most bizarre encounter with Callista. Lucian nor Callista had an idea where the prince could be. This news was kept under the covers and even Cedric’s men in the castle didn’t make a fuss about it because they knew their master was not someone that could be easily taken advantage of.

Away from the palace in the seaside castle, Abrielle didn’t have an inkling of what was happening. She could not sleep. She sat across the fireplace in her private living room, a white kitten on her lap, and she patted it carefully.

Yuki purred softly, enjoying the princess’s touch across its fur. Yuki was a strange cat; it was different from Hazel’s old cat, which was prideful. Yuki, on the other hand, was a bit clingy for cats.

The door behind Abrielle was pushed. Abrielle’s eyes were still stuck on the fire, "Your Highness," she heard Zoltana’s calm voice behind her.

"Is everything ready?" The princess asked Zoltana before she could finish her statement. Zoltana who was dressed in a casual outfit and a brown cloak. Her hair was a bit damp before it was drizzling outside, She had left the castle to run some errands for the princess and just arrived. "Yes, I have made enquiries as you have requested." The maid answered, her head slightly bowed. Abrielle sighed like a weight was lifted off her shoulders.

"I guess things are going well at least," Abrielle answered, her eyes trailing from the fireplace to the window where soft pit-pat sounds could be heard as the rain splashed against the glass. It wasn’t heavy, just a light shower.

"I wonder if it will still rain tomorrow," she muttered, her mind getting lost as she thought about the rose duel.

"I don’t think we will have a heavy downpour tomorrow," Zoltana answered, watching Abrielle’s side profile. The sky rumbled a bit.

The princess didn’t say anything, the sounds of the crackling firewood under the flames mixed with Yuki’s occasional purrs were mixed with the rain sounds. It was a peaceful night on the surface but Abrielle’s heart was not.

"Are you sure about this? I feel it will be better if you take another..." Zoltana’s words were cut when Abrielle raised her hand, beckoning the maid to stop. She didn’t want to have that conversation. She has already thought over it a million times that she could be losing her mind over it.

"That will be all for today. Have a good night, Zoltana. Tomorrow is a big day." Zoltana had a weak smile on her face. The princess was troubled and she didn’t want to talk about it. "Good night, Your Highness. " She bowed, then excused herself, leaving through the door, and closed the door behind her.

Abrielle heard the door close behind her, she still did not glance behind. "If I had another choice I would not have been in this situation." She mumbled, knowing no one heard her.

Yuki meowed in response, "I should head to bed now, "Abrielle sighed. She didn’t feel like sleeping, afraid her fears would haunt her subconscious mind. She has been awake till now with the excuse of waiting for Zoltana. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

She was back here, to the day that haunted her. It haunts her dreams at times. Hazel stared blankly at her apartment building, she was in complete disbelief that she was back.

The rain was pouring, the clouds dark, just as she remembered that day. Was she granted mercy? She wondered as the cold bit into her skin. This was very real, too real to be fake.

"Later then," she heard a familiar voice say behind her. One she had craved to hear a lot before one that was fading to a quiet corner of her mind.

She turned back to stare blankly at him on his bike, his blonde hair drenched by the hair that continued to pour. He was smiling at her; his smile normally gave her butterflies, but now she felt dead inside. "Lucian," Hazel’s calm voice said, a hint of disbelief in it

It wasn’t the Lucian she had been seeing a lot of recently but the one she secretly stole glances of before in class. Lucian’s smile grew, his green eyes sparkling before he drove off. The scent of his exhausted gas and roaring engine made it feel like she was truly back.

A smile etched her lips, her eyes sparkling. She was truly back but her smile quickly fell. Knowing what happened next if she was really back.

Just like that day, Abrielle’s eyes went towards the apartment entrance, a hooded figure standing there but the person’s face was covered.

Her heart rate picked up; she instinctively wanted to run, which she did. Hazel raced away, avoiding the door and running from fate. If only it was that easy. The rain downpour grew heavier, making it hard to see but Hazel didn’t stop.

She remembered the route. It was the one she had followed for 3 years here. The pavement was wet and slippery while Hazel ran, avoiding bumping into anyone; she approached the end of the pavement at a crossroad.

Her eyes were keen on crossing until a car speed blocked the way. In a lucky moment, she avoided running into the car, slipping on the wet floor.

"It is hopeless to run; you can’t escape death, Abrielle," she heard a strange voice call her. Her eyes were blurry with an image of the hooded figure before she held a gun.

"Who are you?" She asked, ignoring the fact she was called Abrielle. The person stood a short distance. The pedestrian ignored them like they were non-existent.

The person didn’t answer her question but instead said. "You will die in the end either by my hand or his.." Hazel’s eyes snapped in the direction of the car. The window rolled down exposing the driving side view. It wasn’t an exact image but she recognized him. "Cedric," Hazel’s voice shook, seeing an urban version of him. He looked the same, only his hair was short.

He didn’t glance at her. The next thing, a gunshot rang. Abrielle’s eyes widened, her body drenched in sweat.
