Chapter 179: A Fine Morning

The sun rose above the sky, the entire place coming alive as it donned everything in its color. The birds chirped to their highest pitch, perching on windows.

Isadora slowly opened her eyes at the sound of them. She rolled onto her back to face the wooden ceiling before shifting to the birds flocking around the window.

She forced her body to sit up, running her hand through her golden blonde hair. Her ambers on a spot on the wooden floor where there was a blood stain reminded her of last night’s event.

An intense sensation overwhelmed her, twisting in her lower stomach, causing her to clench it.

Forcing her gaze away, she got off the bed and got ready for the day.

Isadora walked down the stairs, fixing her hood properly.

Every step she took down the stairs was a creak that caused her to wince. Solin mentioned the inn had been renovated, but it didn’t seem like this.

This constant creak was going to give her a headache.

Another noise followed as a woman came up the stairs, offering Isadora a warm smile as she spoke. "A fine morning, isn’t it?"

"Y-Yes," Isadora replied nervously as the woman walked past her.

It was just like yesterday, everyone she came face to face with was always so... welcoming.

At first, it disturbed her because she wasn’t used to such gestures but now it strangely felt natural. It was an energy she needed to get through the day.

With a smile on her lips, her eyes swept the tables and everyone that occupied them in search of Kraven.

As the seconds passed, her smile slowly faded when there was no sight of him. Shouldn’t he be here for breakfast?

’Is he avoiding me?’ she thought as a constriction found her chest. She knew their conversation didn’t end well last night, but she never expected this.

Raising her gaze again, they settled on Logi sitting close to the window.

"Logi!" She approached him, pulling a chair and sitting.

She narrowed her eyes, watching as Logi rushed through his food like he hadn’t eaten for days

"Did you sleep alright?" he asked with a mouthful.

Isadora stiffened but forced a smile on her lips. "How was the scout yesterday?" she whispered, hoping not to draw too much attention.

Logi swallowed hard, tapping his chest gently to get the food down properly. "I don’t remember."

"What do you mean you don’t remember?"

Logi paused, giving a thoughtful expression. "I don’t know... but for what it’s worth, the scout was no use. I didn’t see the old tunnels. It’s a dead end."

"Are you sure? What about the runic?"

"Child’s play."

Isadora blinked in confusion. "Yesterday... you said Solin was lying."

Logi chuckled. "I was wrong then... Solin is actually a great person, just excuse his flirty attitude."

’Did he just admit he was wrong?’

That was never the case for him. Logi was a proud person. He was always the judge of character, too; it was odd for him to suddenly change his perception overnight.

"Logi, are you okay?"

"Yes, why?"

Maybe she was overthinking it then.

"Have you..." Isadora began swallowing a lump in her throat. "Talked with Kraven about this?"

"No, I haven’t seen him. I thought he was with you."

Isadora opened her mouth to speak, but Logi interrupted her.

"Why so dull? Eat something."

Isadora’s eyes descended on the plate before her, which she hadn’t noticed earlier. The food here was delicious, and dinner was a testament.

She took off the lid and froze at the sight of the food. It was the exact same order she had last night.

"Their service here is great, don’t you think?"

"Logi, isn’t that what you had last night, too?" She pointed to his dish—the same chicken wing, the soup, and the bread.

"Yes, it was good. I’m glad they gave the same order."

"Okay," she mumbled, picking up her spoon and eyeing the food as if it were something she’d never seen before.

Logi noticed she looked pressured by something.

His eating action ceased as he grabbed a napkin to wipe his mouth and hands, before leaning against the chair. "Did something happen last night while I was scouting?" ƒreewebɳovel.com

"What could happen at such a late hour?" Isadora asked, keeping her gaze on the food as she played with it with her spoon.

Her response did nothing to hide anything. It only made it more obvious. Logi knew something must have happened between them.

It was written all over her face.

"I know I’m just your dog, but shouldn’t an owner share things with their pet?"

Isadora blinked, lifting her gaze and staring at him like he’d sprouted two heads. "The seven gods know you and Kraven are bad when it comes to sentiments."

Logi shrugged. "What can I say? I give good advice, but the small emotional talks not so much." He scratched the back of his head.

Isadora sighed, dropping her spoon. "In a situation where..." She paused, chewing her inside mouth. "...where you want more of something..."

Logi nodded slowly, waiting for her to continue, but she was stuttering between words.

"Okay, enough.. before you bite your tongue." He leaned forward and rested his arms on the table. "You want more of Kraven."

Isadora blushed. "S-Something like that?"

"Gods, Isadora! It was that easy to say."

"It’s not." She defended. "He tortured the words out of me last night," she mumbled under her breath.

"I see..." Logi said. "I won’t question the grounds of your relationship with Kraven, gods know I don’t want to know such details."

Isadora huffed. "If it is called a relationship."

A slow smile curled Logi’s lips. "Now I’m more intrigued to know what transpired. And by my guess, it’s the reason why Kraven is scarce."

"Maybe he’s avoiding me."

Logi laughed. "Kraven, avoid? No way! He’s just... What word should I use?" His eyes lit up. "Processing."

"Is wanting more of him wrong?"

"Depends on what more you want. In my understanding, to want more of someone means to desire more closeness, attention, or affection," He explained. "In Kraven’s case, wanting more from a madman is like asking him to plead sanity."

"I-I didn’t know that."

"It’s not your fault. You’re innocent to the ways of intimacy."
