Kang In-hyuk choked on his drink, coughing while still holding water in his mouth. Yoon Tae-seo shot him a disgusted look and pulled out a tissue, pinching it delicately between his fingertips as if afraid a drop of water might splash onto him.

“Hey, hey. Wipe your mouth.”

Disgusted beyond words, Tae-seo clicked his tongue as In-hyuk kept coughing and reached toward him. To avoid any accidental contact, Tae-seo practically tossed the tissue at him before leaning back in his seat.

“You understood everything I just said, right?”

“So, you’re saying my mother disrupted your formal family meeting?”

“You didn’t get it.”

When In-hyuk frowned deeply, Tae-seo tapped his index finger against the table.

“You should be congratulating me on my pregnancy.”

“What? Oh....”

In-hyuk held the tissue in his hand but didn’t even think to wipe his mouth, still staring at Tae-seo.

“Blessing is waiting for your congratulations.”

“Why are you emphasizing that?”

“What do you think?”

Tae-seo glanced at the glass of water in front of him before subtly pushing it aside. There was a chance In-hyuk’s spit had landed in it, so it was best not to drink it anymore.

“It’s proof that I don’t care about you anymore. I’m systematically erasing everything related to you for the sake of my new future.”

As if the teasing expression he’d worn moments ago had never existed, Tae-seo’s face hardened. He could tell In-hyuk had heard and understood every single word he’d just said.

“I feel bad for your parents, but what can I do? I belong to Se-heon now. So, tell your mother properly—there’s nothing between us anymore.”

Tae-seo stared at him, waiting for confirmation, but In-hyuk lowered his gaze and looked at his beer glass. The carbonation had completely dissipated, leaving behind a dull, flat yellow liquid. Staring at it for a moment, he finally lifted his head.

“I don’t want to.”

“...Yeah, you said—huh? You don’t want to?”

Tae-seo, caught completely off guard, echoed In-hyuk’s words in disbelief.

“My parents really like you. Even if I try to stop them, it won’t make a difference.”

“Hey, Kang In-hyuk. So you’re just going to let your mother keep coming after me, knowing full well what she’s doing?”

“I already told you. It won’t make a difference.”

“...Wow. This is some next-level audacity.”

Tae-seo looked at him in utter disbelief, while In-hyuk, regaining his composure, leaned back in his chair. In contrast, Tae-seo, now feeling more urgent, leaned forward.

“So? What’s your plan, then?”

Now that In-hyuk had outright refused, Tae-seo pouted and stared at him. He’d planned to use In-hyuk to put a stop to Han Mi-sun’s meddling, but the first hurdle—In-hyuk himself—wasn’t cooperating.

“I don’t hate you.”

“What kind of bullshit is that all of a sudden?”

“To be honest, I was really shocked when I found out you were pregnant.”

“What’s there to be shocked abo—well, okay, I guess that makes sense.”

Tae-seo initially snapped back but caught himself mid-sentence. He noticed In-hyuk raising his eyebrows, but he needed to get the answer he wanted. And to do that, he figured it was better to go along with In-hyuk’s words instead of rejecting them outright.

‘Well, he used to hate me a lot back then. Maybe that’s why he’s so unwilling to help me now.’

Just when Tae-seo thought their relationship had improved, he clicked his tongue inwardly. He pretended to listen attentively and met In-hyuk’s gaze.

“I was even more shocked when I found out you became an Omega.”

“Oh, I see.”

Yeah, that reaction was pretty standard. Tae-seo absentmindedly traced the condensation on his glass as he responded. Every time he told someone he was pregnant, their first reaction was shock rather than congratulations. It made sense—most people had only ever known him as a Beta. That was probably the case for In-hyuk as well. It hadn’t been that long since he learned Tae-seo had become an Omega, so pregnancy was probably the last thing on his mind.

“And since I also know who the father of that baby is, I struggled with it even more.”

“Well, yeah. If I were you, I’d be conflicted too.”

Tae-seo nodded as if he understood. He honestly didn’t see what was so complicated about it, but he humored In-hyuk to keep the conversation going. Once he saw an opening, he’d push for what he wanted—getting In-hyuk to stop his mother.

“But when you called me.”

“I did? Oh... earlier.”

“I didn’t feel bad about it.”

Tae-seo pressed the call button for a server and ordered another glass of water.

“All the hesitation I had before suddenly didn’t matter, and I just ran over to see you.”

When the server brought the water, Tae-seo thanked them before taking a sip. Since it was ice-cold, he could feel it traveling down his throat.

“I don’t know if it’s appropriate to say this to someone who’s pregnant, but...”

Tae-seo absentmindedly rubbed his belly. Now that he’d had some water, he suddenly needed to go to the restroom.

“You want to start over—”

“I need the bathroom.”

The urgent need hit him all at once, and Tae-seo shot up from his seat. He held out a hand to stop In-hyuk, signaling for him to wait, and then rushed straight to the restroom. In-hyuk instinctively reached for him but dropped his hand as he watched Tae-seo disappear inside without looking back.

“I must be crazy.”

He knew he couldn’t just follow Tae-seo into the bathroom, and all he had to do was wait. Yet, despite knowing that, In-hyuk laughed bitterly at himself for the brief, ridiculous urge to grab Tae-seo just now.

As he sat there, sipping his now-flat beer, Tae-seo returned from the restroom, looking refreshed.

“Go on, finish what you were saying. Ah, but before that—”

Tae-seo extended his hand toward In-hyuk, cutting him off before he could speak.

“If you won’t convince your parents, I’ll have to do it myself. I’ll be blunt and ruthless—are you okay with that?”

“...Yoon Tae-seo. You—”

“Yeah, I figured you wouldn’t be. So just do it yourself. I listened to everything you had to say, so I trust you’ll do me this one favor. Anyway, I’m leaving.”

Tae-seo picked up his ringing phone. The vibration was so strong that even In-hyuk could hear it from where he sat, making it impossible to ignore.

“Yeah, babe. I’m on my way. What? You’re coming to pick me up?”

Tae-seo’s voice went up slightly as he focused on the call.

“I’m near the university, but we could just meet at home—huh? You want to see me sooner? Well, I can’t argue with that.”

He covered his mouth and whispered into the phone.

“I want to see you soon too.”

He thought he was speaking quietly, but apparently, it was loud enough for In-hyuk to hear. In-hyuk scowled, looking up at Tae-seo. Whatever conversation they’d been having was now completely erased by that phone call.

Tae-seo left the café alone, stepping outside and exhaling a deep sigh.

[What’s with the sigh?]

“I just had a conversation with someone impossible to reason ★ 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 ★ with...”

Yoon Tae-seo shook his head. He had planned to tell In-hyuk that if he didn’t want to be involved with him anymore, he should at least stop his parents from interfering. But the conversation hadn’t gone as expected, and all he got in return was rejection.

He thought In-hyuk would brush it off and tell him not to worry about his parents, but instead, he flat-out refused.

And to top it all off, In-hyuk had started setting up a confession-like atmosphere, making things even worse. Tae-seo had cut him off before he could go any further.

“There’s nothing easy in this world.”

[So that’s why you called me to come pick you up? Lucky for you, I happened to be nearby.]

“What else was I supposed to do? If you’re coming, I won’t get caught.”

Tae-seo replayed his conversation with In-hyuk in his head. Since apologizing, In-hyuk hadn’t been outwardly hostile, but for some reason, being around him felt suffocating. That’s why he cut him off and left—he didn’t want to get swept up in it.

“Hurry up and get here.”

Tae-seo tapped the toe of his shoe against the pavement, as if trying to drill a hole into the ground.

[I miss you too. I’m on my way, so be patient.]

“Why does someone who flirts all the time never actually confess?”

All he heard on the other end of the call was Kang Se-heon’s quiet laughter.

“I’m waiting, so just hurry—”

[I love you.]

“....”

Tae-seo fell silent at the sudden confession.

[ I love you, Tae-seo. ]

Maybe it was because of Se-heon’s deep, resonant voice, but his words sounded even sweeter and more intense.

“I... That’s exactly what I wanted. Not some grand confession with an expensive gift and a perfect atmosphere—just something spontaneous... I wanted to hear it like that.”

[ I’m glad it was to your liking. But, well... this is a problem. ]

Tae-seo tilted his phone away and stared at it, as if expecting to see Se-heon’s face on the screen. Of course, there was nothing there. Bringing the phone back to his ear, he asked again, only to be met with the sound of Se-heon letting out a troubled sigh.

“Why do you always start talking and then stop?”

Did the call drop? Just as Tae-seo glanced down at his phone to check, a sleek black car pulled up smoothly in front of him. The window rolled down, revealing a familiar face, but Tae-seo’s excitement was short-lived—his eyes widened in shock at what Se-heon was holding.

“I was going to confess while giving you this necklace... but I guess I’ll have to return it now.”

Hearing his own words from earlier thrown right back at him, Tae-seo quickly changed his tune.

“The atmosphere, the atmosphere! You didn’t set up any atmosphere, so it’s fine.”

Using that excuse, he reached out to take the necklace, but Se-heon playfully pulled his hand back. Tae-seo swiped at the air, missing entirely.

“Snatching something back after offering it is incredibly petty.”

“I never gave it to you in the first place.”

Se-heon twirled the necklace teasingly, making the silver chain dance. The gemstone at the center shimmered as it caught the light.

“If I give you something, I should get something in return.”

He tapped his cheek with his finger. His smile carried a silent challenge, as if asking whether Tae-seo really didn’t understand what he meant. With a resigned sigh, Tae-seo propped his phone against the car window and leaned in.

Just as his lips were about to touch Se-heon’s cheek, Se-heon turned his head at the last second. Their lips met instead.

Tae-seo’s eyes widened in shock.

Seeing Se-heon’s gaze crinkle with amusement, Tae-seo soon gave in and closed his eyes. He let himself melt into the kiss, feeling Se-heon’s fingers graze his neck.

Meanwhile, Kang In-hyuk, who had followed Tae-seo outside, spotted the two and gradually slowed his steps until he came to a stop.

He had wanted to grab Tae-seo and finish their conversation.

But instead, he saw something he really didn’t want to see.

The kiss.

He wanted to run over and rip them apart. But all he could do was stand there, clenching his jaw so hard his muscles strained from the pressure. His pulse pounded, his irritation mounting with no way to cool it down.

“Yoon Tae-seo, I haven’t accepted this yet.”
